Thanks man! I can still hear the ads on the radio "Sunday Niagara!". I'm a "few" years older than you so humor me, memory isn't what it use to be! I grew up in Jamestown and a guy up the street had a car he ran on that strip. It was a Chevy II with a big block Chevy, Muncie Crash Box, rear end set-up for the strip, and I seem to remember a Holly 850 on top? You could tell it was spring when he got her out and started to make her ready for the strip, she was LOUD! My folks hated it, I thought it was great. I wanted to tag alone with him to the strip, but Mom's words in those days were final, NO you can't go. I never got a good explanation why not. Anyway thanks for the tour it is a part of my growing up that made Western New York and the Buffalo area special. Be well and safe peace to you and yours.

Thermo-Quad, made by Carter..best street carb ever and the best sounding. the phenolic resin main body kept the fuel cooler for better running in higher temps..and added an extra free 10-15 hp..and had enough CFM to properly feed a big block..or even small block. the 'on demand' vacuum secondary carbs are by far the best for the street/daily use..better mpg and less cylinder wash on startup, compared to a dbl pumper.

I picked up on of these for next to nothing in 1990 from a guy down on his luck. It had the 4bbl 400 with a edelbrock intake , headers and a hot cam, the old guy was the original owner and had basically done everything from top to bottom because he was disappointed in its performance after having had 440 polara prior to that, basically I didn’t realize what I was buying and it had freeway gears so I really wasn’t impressed until one morning I had the need to put some distance between me and a carload of gangbangers on a long straight stretch of highway and I put my foot through the floor board and I didn’t lift for the next 4 miles, that thing definitely impressed me then as she didn’t even shift into high gear until long after the speedo was buried. I’ve had numerous big block fords, 428’s , 429’s and 460’ s and I’ll take a properly set up 400 any day

A 77 Cordoba with the 400 was my first car in high school: a hand me down from my parents. Dead slow off the line thanks to highway gears, but could do "M" on the speedo at any time, effortlessly. Could catch passing gear at 90mph and she'd just keep accelerating. Friends with Camaros and Firebirds would leave me at the lights, but once I got rolling, they might just as well have shut their cars off. Thirsty, but fun.

@randomprecisionmopars10 ай бұрын
Headers are Dynomax 66-74 B Body.I had to fabricate the shift linkage around the header. Im sure there are easier ways to remove the Lean Burn,but I used a Mopar conversion kit with the wiring,ECU and distributor,and an Edelbrock carburetor.
