The notion is that you can’t expect your government to cover you if disaster occurs. Obviously it would help amazing if people had a community to rely on however, most people are highly unprepared and should strive to be as capable and prepared as possible.

@@jillrice2577 it takes one thing to devastate your supply and preparedness. Never be so proud to believe that you are better than someone else because they don’t have it together at the same rate as you. Your supply will run out and you will need to learn to work with others. Can’t imagine who would want to work with you though.

@@jillrice2577 1 out of 25 is prepared for what exactly? A week, a month, tyranny.. you don’t know what could happen so you don’t know that your “prep” will be what is needed. If it makes you feel better to have some canned corn in the basement, then go for it. But the point still stands that inevitably, you will need to have a community. At no point in history have we ever survived without one.

@Sammiejammie521 , in order for a community to be helpful, they have e to be able to share resources. If you're the only one in your area that has resources, how helpful will the community be? I have been jarring up my food for over 30 years ... I do about 350 jars every year I add more stuff to my list as I come across them...started off with one case of jars and a presto pressure canner...now it's more like an addiction lol

LOL same thing happened to my dad. I had bought jars and a pressure canner because he was going to help me pressure can some of my famous chicken noodle soup for my boyfriend (now husband) who was deployed. His house is now literally full of all kinds of canned foods and he cans everything haha!

I have a farm stand in Illinois! It's like having my own store in the front yard! Do you mind me asking how much you charge for a loaf of bread? I've offered bread (not sour dough), and it's a lot of work for no more than I was charging.

For standard sourdough loaves we do $10 but for speciality loaves it varies on what the additives are.

I have a question if that's okay? I'm in Virginia and was just told by VADACS that I have to have an inspection of my kitchen and a permit if I want to sell baked goods in my farmstand, like cookies and bread. She said I could sell them in my home, but not at my farmstand....I'm so confused????

Essential oils are added by weight in cosmetics, not by volume, and should not exceed the IFRA for that particular essential oil. I would recommend checking out Humblebee & Me on youtube for cosmetic formulation.

@@GwenS320 I would classify equipment as a pressure canner. Canning salt is a pretty cheap find at your local Walmart for just a couple bucks. Hope this helps!
