It’s 16*F outside. The humidity in my home is so low I’m miserable. I’m not sure how to read my 2003 hrv dehumidistat dial… are the numbers a percentage or a temperature? It also has a snowflake symbol. I live in central Iowa. (01/04/24).

It's great to see forward thinking in building. Pressure treated wood really can never last as long as concrete or cast block. For this reason wood should not be used for foundations as replacing foundation walls is so much more expensive and disruptive than the wood framed walls that sit on top of those foundations. Also, treated wood lasts no where near as long now with the change in the chemicals to make them less dangerous to the trades people who install them. If you want fast, insulation-ready pre-framed panels, look at precast Superior Walls or similar; they offer many advantages over conventional CMU methods. Oh yeah, and if you work with chemically treated wood products, always wear skin and eye protection. Be safe.

We have some bounciness just like video and are about to do this in our unfinished basement. Could you use 2x4’s at 24” centers instead of the 1x3 at 12” centers shown?

Thanks! I saw you have the green colour paint, but to match a lighter green colour, I imagine adding a touch of white would lighten base color

Thank you so much for sharing! My mom just moved into our downstairs suite and the neighbor's smoke is settling down there and making her feel ill. We live in an old, badly sealed townhouse complex and all of the neighbor's smoke just pours in. I had no idea that the solution could be so simple!! You're a life saver-thanks again :)

That was a good cost-saving solution for the 70's but today we have screw-in posts which don't even require terrain grading, leveling, gravel pad, drainage, etc. And they can be screwed way down below the frost line. It is even more economical and faster than a wood foundation.

How do you make sure that the floor becomes smooth after plastering? It’s an outside floor. Cement comes off when we sweep. It causes people to have sinuses. Plastered about three days ago. Should we pour water on the floor. It’s an outside floor. May you kindly assist?

I removed my strapping and put resilience channel. I may have made it worse than better. ugh. I wonder if its easier to fix upstairs or by trying to slip in some reinforcement between the joist and drywall/ RC.

When i was a young boy, 10 years old, my grandfather wanted to teach me the value of hard work, he had me scrub his vynyl siding, gutters, windows, and we used your lemon scented product! i remember your face and name, my grandfather is an old fashioned handy man from sidney BC. last night i was sorting through some donated books in my building, and i found one of your home improvement tip books! flash from the past, thank you very much, im going to read this book and it will hopefully help me become more handy! thanks shell-from Prince Rupert BC

I red the title of the video and then saw your background full of weapons and tools and ….. 😂😂😂 My neighbour SMOKES inside the building… our ducts are connected, it’s an old building.. all the smoke gets on my food, everywhere, I’m on the last floor… everything raises and gets here. I get anxious, I can’t do anything.. Please comment if you have connected vents

Most effective way to get rid of cigarette smoke is water mist, basically very small droplets. They attach to the smoke particles and make it fall to the ground. Use a pressure pump like for a terrarium and attach a few feet of tube to it. One nozzle every 2 feet. Couple the pump with a PM25 meter via a smarthome setup. Everytime the neighbour lights up, the water mist will stop the particles in its path.

Hi, I like your channel. I just moved into a 4 apt house. The apt has a musty smell. I believe some of it is coming in from rhe outside hallway which smells worse I noticed an opening on my door entrance on the side with the door knb. Is there an odor blocking sealant or something I can use to stop the smell?

According to directions on the tube of caulk, it is only meant to fill small cracks. Don't have the tube in front of me, but I learned this after doing repairs exactly like you showed here. I thought I was pretty slick. I'll probably be dead before it fails, but it's going to fail eventually.

Clean. put down concrete to concrete glue. then put down a mix of glue and water with a concrete that has glue in it. I don't think this was very clear, to be honest, .

This method also works with fixing dents in car panels. Cut out the dent and seal with caulk and cardboard. Spray on a little paint to match the color. Good as new!

I like the way they call CCA-treated wood "safe for humans and for the environment". The obvious question for those who can't use CCA anymore is how permanent basements made with ACQ or some other still accepted preservative, will be. Will they last as long as the basements built when this clip, which looks more 1970s than 1980s (note the Ford Granada and the mostly tube TV at the end), was made?

I've never understood the part about working from the bottom up. That means that as you move up, the dirt from above streams over the clean siding below, so you'll have to re-rinse the lower parts each time you move up. (to avoid any dirt from drying on). Shell needs to explain why you would want to work up. What am I missing?

Use top quality paint, prep properly and it can last decades. We did ours over 30 yrs. ago, and no peeling yet. (no doubt some fading though)

Ouf.. reading the comments.. it's one thing to give your opinion but no need to be rude. Personally I live in an old 1885 house in Quebec and do this on the hotter summer days.. it work for me. The basement cools the 2 floors and I'm not worried about the air quality (with Merv8 filters on) any more than I am in the winter when I use the (wood/electric) furnace for heat.

Thank you for making this video. It was very helpful in silencing a squeaky floor we had. Before seeing this the screws were twisting loose the fibers. One thing that helped too was to wrap the tape backwards (counterclockwise when looking at the head first).
