Nice to hear from you guys, I find it motivating to hear an actual, non-guru story. I had a fleeting thought, what do you think about the possibility of offering your courses tailored for a Spanish-speaking audience? It's okay if you think it's a bad idea; just curious. I'm all down if you need somebody to do the translating/subtitling. Keep up all your great work, peace!

For those that are new here, Tom and Jake here For starters, we’re filmmakers who have spent the last decade freelancing. Freelancing as a creative has its upsides and downsides - From working 16+ hr days on set, waiting 3-6months to get paid (and sometimes never being paid...) We were tired of trading our time for money, and the inconsistencies that came from working as a freelancer - so 1 day in 2016 we decided to try something new. At this point we had been working together for 3-4 years, so we decided to take a few weeks and create a 100+ page PDF that broke down the tips and tricks we had learned in our filmmaking journey's. We’ll never forget the day we launched this product. We woke up to $5,000+ in sales on the first day This was more than either of us had made as a day rate freelancing. And the next day, another couple thousand $. To be honest, It almost didn’t seem real... What was even crazier, this being a digital product, the customer got an automated email with a download link. We didn’t have to print out shipping labels, or ship any physical products. This DIY 100page PDF completely changed our lives. It was from this moment we went all in on making digital products and a few months later we launched @tropic.colour and to date with that brand alone, we’ve crossed $14,500,000+ in sales. We don’t say this to brag, or to be boastful of how much we have made. We say this because we were 2 freelancers with zero prior experience in how to do any of this. Fast forward to today, years after launching our first product /business, we decided we wanted build a hub for Creative Entrepreneurs to help them do the same. Whether that be making money passively online, growing your brand/business, creating engaging social content, grow your follower count, learn valuable skillsets, etc And look, you don’t even have to be a creator, or a filmmaker, or a photographer… if you're someone who has always had an itch to build your own thing and create passive income, than you are in the right place with #CEO

Recently stumbled upon this podcast and man, what a goldmine of insights! As a young South African filmmaker who just embarked on the journey of starting my own film company, this podcast episode hit home in so many ways. Your insights on why cameras are a bad investment really got me thinking. It's easy to get caught up in the gear frenzy, especially when starting out, but your perspective on the importance of investing resonated deeply. The discussion on investing beyond just equipment was eye-opening. It's refreshing to hear successful filmmakers like yourselves emphasizing the value of diversifying investments. Being a young filmmaker in SA, where resources can sometimes be limited, your practical advice on making smart financial choices im the film business is invaluable. I'm taking away a lot from this episode, and it's giving me a fresh perspective on how to approach both the creative and business aspects of my filmmaking venture. Thanks guys.

Maybe touching on the construction area of your build outs in Honeymoon. Kind of the process behind the build out of a room from structure to design... We have a 1300 soft studio, we build out 1 set at a time and rent out the space while its hot and tear it down, all with studio flats, but can't wait to be able to have a big enough space to keep them up. We're in Cleveland, sometimes I feel we are just in the wrong city, but then I think we are just making excuses and not marketing it correctly, plus we have a video production company that we are running alongside it, seems to be overwhelming. Just 2 of us, no back end fellowship... But yes, that would be a topic I'd enjoy as I know first hand what we are going through from set idea to set build...

Hey dudes. Thanks for sharing. I’d like to connect further, I am in the process of making a tool for filmmakers on my own. It’s an expensive item so I’m pitching investors. But where you could be cool is a sample case study. If this sounds the slightest bit intriguing hit me up. Thanks Jimmy

Couldn't agree with Jake more if I tried, everyone and their dog had these gimbals on productions, basically with zero movement.Unless you're running or moving several steps, there's literally zero need for a gimbal. All these kids in the UK buy their little GH5 or whatever, slap it on a gimbal with a wide angle lens, no FF motor system and just weave it about to create some kind of 'movement' in the shot for absoutly zero reason. They have a purpose for sure, but unless you're hanging out of a car, running or doing major movement. I think they are an overused tool that just makes the shot look so pedestrian in a lot of circumstances. Rigged up & Handheld all the way for me on 90% of my shoots. If you get a nice heavy camera system rigged up, there's far less micro jitter and if your a good operator, you should be able to do nearly all of your work bar extreme movement shots without a gimbal in my opinion.

Would love to hear your takes on what you would do if you were limited to a smaller city or area. Some people can't always move because of family or other reasons so what would be your move? KZbin? Digital Assets or carve out a marketing video/photo niche in your smaller area? I used to live in Arizona but now Kaua'i so even smaller lol.
