I had heard of this capability but had never seen it practiced. It’s impressive to see how much energy can be stored and then used for a controlled, gentle landing. Nicely done.

That ship belonged to CALSTAR Air Medical since new and Fossett bought it. The work, some anyway, was at Watsonville Airport KWVI in California near Santa Cruz.

@@SkyCoreLLC If memory serves, Fossett was also planning some round-the-world records with it, a huge fuel cell was installed or planned to be. Don't know how far that got before his unrelated crash near Minden. At the time period, a good friend was VP at West Marine and friends of Fossett- he got a call from Steve asking if he wanted to race the NY-London on a sailboat. He replied "sure" and was told "good, I am on the way and will pick you up in a couple hours, be packed and ready". Scramble ensued, gear gathered, loaded up and they were on the boat shoving off within 30 minutes of landing in NY. Fun trivia: - the left sponson was always 25 degrees warmer than the right, wonder why? Its where all the electronics were - don't fall overboard because it would take a mile loop to circle back (this thing ain't made to turn) and fish your corpse out of the icy water...if we could find it - all or nothing deal with Sony- if PlayStation (the boat's name) set a record= millions, if not...thanks for playing

It's a great helicopter (German design and built), but not the most powerful. Excellent footage though 👍🇺🇸
@SkyCoreLLC3 жыл бұрын
We should've said "power to weight" as it's a 1 of a kind helicopter made to break world records with no limitations. It's at least 3 times as powerful as a regular C20 based BO105.

I worked on one in AZ. Many time it couldn’t fly in the summer. The competition would kick our tails with their 350B2. I liked working on it and flying in it. I don’t agree with the “powerful “ thing. Ever been around a Lama or a 214? I don’t have experience on the really powerful stuff like the S64 or 234, etc
@lineartherapies3 жыл бұрын
This one is a one of a kind made for breaking records, just one of it's C30P engines are more powerful then the ones you worked on. I think they mean power to weight ratio which means this prob is one of the most powerful in the world.
@stejac513 жыл бұрын
I call BS on that Summer in Az call ... I flew 105C. D & CBS out of Dubai UAE for years in all temps up to 48C ... wish we had LS's for the upgraded Transmissions and better Engines but it was the early 1980's and they just had not been designed yet ... true tho that if an engine failed at the wrong time the remaining one took you to the scene of the crash !

*.. possibly the worlds most powerful helicopter (power to weight). Some say there's only 5 guys in the world that can handle this kind of power and they're all named Chuck Aaron!* - Oh boy, I've heard some tripe in my time, and this is right up there with it!
@tictoc3833 жыл бұрын
Charly Zimmermann and Rainer Wilke are also Specialists on Bo 105. USA is not the only Country in the world. Its a German Helicopter from the 70s so they flew this a long time before Chuck Aaron, he is am amazing Pilot for sure, but not the only one who can handle this beast. 😉

Love your channel, love you work! I'm working on realistic handling within a video game (and am also interested in flying helicopters) and had a few questions: 1. When you're flying at higher speeds at a pitch angle of 0, does the aerodynamics of the helicopter keep you from needing to input foot pedal/yaw, or do you still have full control of your yaw abilities when flying at higher speeds? 1a. If so, does that make it near impossible to rotate the bird at high speeds until you slow down? 2. When you're hovering in place, a LOT has to go into keeping her steady; Do you find yourself putting the same amount of effort into keeping her steady when (again) travelling at higher speeds? 3. I understand the larger birds are less sensitive, but slower to react than smaller ones. Does that make the big boys less of a pain than the smaller copters? I'd love to pick your brain on how helicopters FEEL (how they handle), rather than just how they look! If you'd like to harshly audit my work I've been doing, check this out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/npLEZH1nnaides0 and this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGikh52dhNmarZY I look forward to the response of a real pilot! Cheers!
