I'd get one of the taller bookshelves if you can find one in your building, however instead of moving your file cabinet over on the other side of the window, I'd put the tall bookshelf by the window but it would be turned so the books and/or bins are facing your teaching area instead of out toward the class. You have that tall white shelf with the yellow bins in front of the wall that juts out, so the bookshelf could be turned facing your teaching area and the back of it would mostly be covered by the wall and the white shelf with yellow bins. Hope that made sense.

Absolutely did! Good idea. I might try that in setup day 2 today. Thanks!

What system do you use for your scanning your books?
@iheartprimary9495 Жыл бұрын
We have to use something per our district that was approved by the state. Every book has to be visible online. I'm not sure the name of the system but if I find out I'll let you know. However, I have used libid.com in the past with a personal scanner I bought from amazon just to keep track of what I have. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

Hello! I was thinking if you could use ziplock bags for the books instead of the crates. I am also teaching first grade and have found that aside from the cost of the book crates, bags are so much more space friendly and economical. I know they don't look as pretty, but I actually store mine on either in the closet or in a bigger milk crate. Just an idea. I love your videos, btw. :))
@iheartprimary9495 Жыл бұрын
Good idea, that might work if my collections weren't so large. Maybe as I dwindle down some books this year I can try that. Thank you for the idea! Thanks for watching!

Love, love your videos. I have a question, do you do Heggerty whole group or just for part of your class? I have a really high small group of students and I am always struggling with what they could do while I work with most of my class, which is low. Thanks. :)
@iheartprimary9495 Жыл бұрын
Both! I love doing it whole group because it's quick and I can make mental notes. Then when I'm in small group I go back to some previous weeks if needed and zero in on those skills I know my students needed or maybe weren't as confident in. I also use the book to extend skills and give me ideas. Hope that helps!

I see that you use reading simplified switch it list. Have you taken the training through it. Wondering what you thought of it. As it is very different from OG.
@iheartprimary94952 жыл бұрын
Yes, I did the reading simplified training. It was the week-long free training through Facebook. I enjoyed the training but it's very similar to what I've used for years with word chains, word ladders, making words, etc. The difference is the questioning, to be honest. It goes right along with OG. I begin with where my students need and move through the list that way. I don't use it exactly how I was trained b/c of time purposes but I'm hoping to get more information and maybe try again later. Honestly, it's just another resource to support instruction based on SOR.

Have you thought about putting the books in the magazine type file boxes (got mine for a good price at IKEA)? Then you just add a label for the theme on the front. I’ve organized both my Read Aloud books and my class library books (I switch them out rather than have them all out at one time) in them and have loved it since! Just an idea for you. When I need to switch out my books for the new holiday/unit I just grab the file boxes (the old and the new) and easy peasy.
@iheartprimary94952 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea! I'm totally going to look at this possibility when I reorganize at the end of the school year! Thank you!

I am new to first grade this year. I have tried a math unit from the TPT seller that you showed in your vlog and I wasn't very impressed. Do you have any TPT suggestions for math?
@iheartprimary94952 жыл бұрын
I have a few, can you tell me which one it was? Was it the one I was talking about it this video? If so I think I'm sort of on that page. I have heard good things about Tara West's unit and I've tried a little of Firstie Math's stuff.
@ForemanTeaches2 жыл бұрын
@@iheartprimary9495 Yes, it was binders that you were talking about in this video.... the Reagan Tunstall units. I am hoping to find someone on TPT with great math units and resources.

Fellow Florida teacher here. I don’t usually comment much on videos but when you were talking about your red, green, yellow, blue system and using the shark bins, an idea popped into my head that might possibly work for you. Could you cut out a small fish of each of those colors and tape or hot glue it on the sharks mouth? Just a thought, and then you could keep your cute shark bins.

Actually I have 17 this year. Most years I've had 20-24 but since we are a new school we are low this year. I cannot even imagine 31 4th graders though. Our upper grades have about 28 as well and are classrooms were designed pretty small so I hope they get some relief soon.
