My father, Carl Vitz was Asst. Director of the Cleveland Public Library. He coordinated the activities in Cleveland and served 3 months as camp librarian at Camp Sherman in Ohio.

Used to hear this same sounder on the radio news stations from NBC, usually Cameron Swayze, or Garrick Utley reporting. Maybe Roy Neal if it was a net alert, or David Brinkley.

The theme, "NBC TV-Radio Newspulse" by Fred Wineberg, lasted only a few months before it was replaced by a theme by Henry Mancini. The NBC chimes are mysteriously absent; most other NBC News productions had the chimes. The theme continued as the theme for NBC News until 1982, I think.

@loutenore33 IIRC, San Antonio's KMOL (now WOAI) also used the same theme song as well as the NewsCenter setting back in the day.

I have always wondered this, I've seen tons of old news TV footage and it has the same format, blacjk and white plus the network name, time and date. Who made these tapes? I've seen the 1968 Democratic convention with Dan Rather too with this exact format?

Gee, I remember where I was on this day in 1977: Lawrence, MA, on my way to the New Hampshire beach. Thank you for sharing this with us!

this was from the period when Chancellor and Brinkley co-anchored.. The network thought they worked so well together after seeing them anchor 1976 election coverage, they brought Brinkley back from the commentators chair to co-anchor. For a time, they both did the broadcast in NYC, but then they moved Brinkley back to DC, which made more sense. At some point they decided a single anchor could better take on Cronkite and Chancellor was solo again. This all happened between 1976-1980 as I recall.
