People who have russian tortoise : after bath and when skin is clean and dry you must put on skin and shell of your tortoise little glicerin or vaselin My tortoise in hot season really loved being outdoor in grass where she enjoyed eating leaves of dandelium. Be careful for enemy of tortoise are ants which wanted always to occupy my poor tortoise and disturbe her good time in grass with dandelium. It was very troublesome to get rid of ants after they already attacked tortoise Favourite food of my russian tortoise was lettuce and she was able to eat it all year round with no complain. Unfortunatelly that time we didnt have internet that time nor vets who knew topic of russian tortoises nor books about them and after 7 years tortoise got severely diseased and departured (died)

Looking at getting a red ackie monitor. Love monitor lizards, had a wild caught Nile monitor had to get rid of him. Found a female ackie at a reptile rescue in lebanon oregon. First day of interaction, she ran up my arm up on to my head. The owner said she has not done that to anyone. She picked me for her owner. They are working with me really well. I am getting excited.

Hey there~! This is a long shot, but to make a long story short I am trying to get an ackie and found your plans very helpful in designing the enclosure. I was surprised to see that your plywood design (which is up on Reptifiles) doesn't have any structural reinforcement. Did you find that it worked okay even with all that dirt? I was laying out a 5x3x4 and was surprised to find just how heavy it was going to be. Thanks in advance if you get this!

Loved the Russian Tortoise soaking video. Done by yourself. 😂 Great job on that. Just got my first Russian Tortoise on a Black Friday special at Petco. And I did little research on my side😢. Now I have a 40 gal aquarium, Uv light, 150 watt bulb for heat, and other stuff. I’m about to do my 1st soaking 🎉😮. Thanks for your video. I’m not gonna forget the Towel😂. Just wondering if ya have other videos that I could use? And I gotta cover the bottom glass windows on that tank (I heard] and saw your cage had wood at the bottom. Any suggestions rather than wood? I’m kinda broke after this huge purchase, this weekend😅. Thanks for any help. I’m definitely gonna follow you and subscribe. The video was my kinda videos, I like to watch, and I’m 52 years old. Good luck with everything going forward. Peace🎉

great video, really well-researched! but honestly, i think channels like JayPrehistoricPets could potentially create unrealistic expectations for pet owners. it's like they glamorize keeping reptiles without fully addressing the complexities involved in their care. what do you all think?

Unfortunately I disagree with a lot of points here. Firstly it’s uvb, to explain this reasoning is from studying them first hand in northern Australia. While out there we recorded uv indexes and periods of basking / activity, 90% of the time recorded was at the start of the evenings around 3/4pm with uv indexes readings on average being uvi 3-6 being weak to moderate levels meaning to go by wild standards only a 3-5% uvb is needed and if like my reptiles being show animals that are regularly outside midday in the sun I don’t provide them with uvb. Secondly the enclosure size, by AWC (Animal Welfare Committee) standards a 4x1.5x1.5 is their minimum which has been concluded through dozens of studies. However id probably be happy using a 4x2x2 or a 5x2x2 for their lifetime. Next is their substrate this can be a large debate but every ackie I have fostered, rehomed and had myself have never dug below 8 inches as I provided them with suitable tunnels and hides so having 20 inches is not entirely needed but if it suits you then absolutely acceptable. Lastly is their diet, baby ackies should be fed 3-4 times a week giving them starve days to produce the fat needed as an overload of fat messing with internal metabolics and causes overweight ackies. Adults 2-3 times a week.

ive just build a enclosure for an ackie monitor and im wondering what kind of sealent would be best as ive seen Polyurethane which says its water resistant but would that be enough with a couple of coats or should i try and find something more water proof as would like it to last.
