I can vouch for cats being safe with badgers, I have seen them almost nose each other. As for their claws, they can be quite gentle especially when they hold your hand, although they are often dirty. They look cuddly but their fur is quite coarse and often scabby underneath. Yes I get close to my black and white faced visitors.

This is a wonderful idea. I have an old metal firepit that I salvaged. It has some rust, so I think I would line it with waterproof pond liner. thank you so much for sharing.

So glad you had such a fantastic day on Skomer! Think you need to visit my favourite island too Skokholm where I have my 8 special infra-red cameras filming Storm Petrels again this year. Puffins do come & sit on you if your patient there too! 😂🤣
