I agreed with you. I don't even like button smashing or complex button sequences for combos. Even something as simple as shooting pistols which required me to press for each shot is annoyed me. That's why I'm developing a game where it's simple to play and not required me to press buttons over and over again. Though I decided to use target lock system instead of precise aiming since I want to focus on the action feeling more than required player skills to play. Maybe it's a me thing here, but I think trying to be precise at something is too tiring. Sometimes I just wanted to feels powerful without much efforts.

I agree. Between working, taking care of a house and family I don't have alot of time to learn and memorize button sequences to do moves to be able to play a game. I noticed with my ps5 I spend alot of time trying to memorize button sequences that I don't get to really enjoy the game or I have to put the game on easy mode but then it's too easy. Seems like the nintendo classics keep it pretty simple still so I can actually enjoy those games more.

You do realize that games like Bayonetta and Devil May Cry fall under your aforementioned action genre? Oops. Hack'n slay is not a genre on its own but more like a gameplay mechanic that can be applied to different genres like action games (Bayonetta), beat em ups (Golden Axe)and of course RPGs (Dark Souls). Even established genres like shooters (third person and first person) can often be applied as a sub genre to other main genres like RPGs. Mass Effect is a RPG with third person shooter galore. Borderlands is a RPG with first person shooter galore.

Lots of games pull from different genres or can be called different things, but hack and slash is definitely a genre and both bayonetta and DMC are hack and slash games. Action is a broader term that does apply to those, but also applies to games like Zelda

I play mostly o.g. Xbox and 360 backwards compatible games on my Series X. Don’t use my PS5 much. I purchased a PSVR2 on launch two years ago and haven’t touched it. I had trusted that a few great AAA VR games would be released for it within a year, but that didn’t happen. I’m not interested in horror games which have been a mainstay of PSVR2, and I’m not a racing game fan so GT7 is not for me.

Consoles aren't unique enough anymore to justify $500 + $70 games. Would rather drop $2000 on a sick computer, then get all the games I want at huge discounts year round. You never have to pay full price for anything on PC. Consoles just limit frame rates and options at this point. I just don't see the point.

Who cares If you just wanna play good games. You'll be able to play PlayStation 5 games in the future when the servers go down. Even now if there is an Xbox exclusive, you should play it if you want to. Some of this is just stuck in the past stuff. I'm old as hell myself and I enjoy classic gaming as well as modern day games. There's a site called Does it play that will let you know which games are completely on the disc and playable from the console. An Xbox is absolutely Attached to online play to activate the console. You don't have that yet with current PlayStation so the website Does it play allow you to curate a collection now of great stand-alone PS4 and PS5 games. Being set in your ways with things that you enjoy isn't necessarily A Bad Thing. I would just rather have everything because good games are everywhere. Even Sony is it going full live service. Jim Ryan started that initiative and the higher-ups have already reversed course on that. I say own it all if you have the money. There is a little bit of get off my lawn to this though. lol

You're preaching to the choir, modern gaming felt alien to me even last generation with only a select few games appealing to me, my saving grace was the wii u, 3ds and vita, with the hype ps5 got I bought into it and just like you, I felt completely and utterly detached, it doesn't mesh with me but going back to ps3 and vita just feels right to me, I feel at home, that's not to say its all bad though, the Switch gets some good first party titles and the rise of "cozy" games has been great, I used to crave those types of games a lot but games like harvest moon and story of seasons did little for me but nowadays there's more fantasy settings and combat in these types of games, i can only hope for more from the next Nintendo console but if that turns out to be just as bad as the current gen consoles then I'll probably retire and sit on my vast libraries of retro games.

I’m pretty worried about Nintendo‘s next generation. I feel like with the push towards 4K. They’re going to suffer from the same thing that all of these other publishers are suffering from where they end up spending so much time and resources on graphics that they de-prioritize gameplay, which has been absolutely wonderful. I wouldn’t say that I feel the same way about the switch as I do about the other modern consoles at all I love the switch, but I even seen the direction that things have gone with the switch and I feel that not all but a lot, the first switch games have lost some of the charm that they had on the 3DS which is not to say I don’t love the switch because I really do

@@NerdCrave I hope they go the 1440p route like the series s or even just 1080p 60fps, that would be fine for me personally, I think the industry jumped to 4k way before it was ever prepared to, and I agree on some of the magic being lost with the Switch, I think it's because everything feels samey where as on wii u you had your big hitters then when you got tired of playing that kind of stuff you could fall back on the 3ds and have an entirely different more niche experience that only a dedicated handheld from that time could provide.

Here's the thing... Handheld gaming is bigger than it's ever been. Not only are there a ridiculous amount of gaming handheld pc's coming out every other day. More importantly the biggest market in gaming is mobile devices. The issue is cost to profit which is why live service games with miceotransactions are king. Hardware is not the issue. It's software. Sadly gamers (or game players) dictate what kinds of games are popular and profitable. In turn making people the issue.

When the Switch first released I was a little annoyed that people kept referring to it as a "handheld" console like the 3DS, it's in truth a "portable" console. The difference is that a handheld like the 3DS is convenient to bring with you, I used to carry my 3DS in my pocket everywhere I went, you can't do that with a Switch (although I have put the Switch in my pocket a few times since my pockets were barely large enough for this), it's something you put in a dedicated place (often your TV room) and bring with you to whatever place in your home that you like, or you bring with you in your backpack when out on the town, or in your luggage when traveling. These are very useful things that a Switch can do that a dedicated home console cannot, but you have to make a conscious effort to bring it with you. Also, what most of these PC handhelds don't realize is that "handheld mode" on a Switch is purely a compromise for when you have to hold the system in your hands, the console was really meant to be played in "tabletop mode" with it resting on a surface with the kickstand, and the joy-cons detached. Also it's very surprising to me that the Wii is nearly 20 years old and yet Nintendo is the only company making (nearly) good quality wireless controllers that allow for the freedom of movement of joy-cons or a wii-mote + nunchuk, given how much more comfortable it is (if only joy-cons were well made I would be able to use them).

The joys of clam shell devices, it can fold up to be more protected and portable while being able to open up and be as ergonomically playable as a long body game boy. But yeah a lot of points for the ds/3ds ended up agreeing to my mindset when playing games. For handhelds i do prefer to play things for shorter periods of time, maybe around 1-2 hours and it's just as easy as closing the shell to pause the game and go back to it at any time. Its one of the best advantages of it and i'm glad its currently being kept alive in the modding scene since its simple enough to mod, there are flash carts if you wanted to setup it up for different systems. Where as with something like the steam deck, i still use it portably but not in the classical sense. I bring it to work in my backpack during slow nights where all i'm doing is monitoring stuff, i can hook it up to a monitor and play anything in my library during my 12 hour shift. I use the switch in much of the same way, but i dont like to bring it places so its a permanently docked at home and i can just load it up when i want to play something. Only with the 3ds do i play it with the intention to be portable, opening it up when i have time and closing it when i need to move. So TLDR favorites: modded 3ds for any nintendo 3ds game and below on the go, modded vita for vita games and below (playstation wise) on the go, Switch for a Nintendo home console, and the Steam deck to play my Steam library during slow work nights (and can setup to play ps2 and gamecube games if i felt like it).
