The fact that he's only properly in the first movie is heart-breaking. Love his little scenes with Faramir and Denethor in the Two Towers. Didn't know "The Sons of Gondor" bonus scene existed until not long ago. Glad Boromir got a bit more screentime. ❤️

good stuff. I think the song lyric you chose also alludes that the change you need on your shoulder is in your head. Your head. Change your perspective, change your life, change your world. It's all perspective, the choice we make to engage with life. Watching this movie was transcendent for me. I saw myself in Jesse, his 2nd favorite professor, and the male student he mentors; and have a little more hope for myself now. My exwife is 9 years my junior and we broke up what feels like yesterday still, I am still mourning... But I feel seen now, a bit more than before. And a little more resilient because of that.

Greetings, all. Will's oldest brother here. I'd like to open up a discussion on this video: What is your favorite member of The Fellowship Of The Ring, and why? My favorite is Gandalf. I still play a very niche online game to this day that literally almost nobody knows about that both Will and I used to play when he was alive. It's called "The Kingdom Of Loathing." (Does anyone know or play this game!?! hahaha) It's a funny text and picture based game filled with jokes and pop culture references. In the game, since someone had already took the name, "Gandalf The White," I am known throughout the Kingdom as "Gandalf The Grey;" which is my character's name in the game. I love Gandalf because he is so old, so wise, and so peaceful; and yet, he can kick a lot of butt in battle! He acts as a wizard, a guide, and a friend to our heroes. I strive to be just like him when I'm a thousand years old. haha ...and...DISCUSS!

Greetings, all. Will's oldest brother here. I'd like to open up a discussion on this video: What is your favorite scene with Faramir, and why? Or, perhaps, do you have a favorite line of Faramir's? Mine is where Faramir releases Frodo and Sam. It shows the full and complete finish of the character's story arch, as Faramir goes from clinging to Frodo and Sam and wanting to use The Ring to gain him power and prestige, and letting The Ring and Frodo and Sam go. He was willing to let Frodo and Sam go, even if it meant that his life would be forfeit for it. I commented a similar comment on Will's "Boromir" video just now. I find it quite oddly funny that both Boromir and Faramir's characters go through an entire story arch of wanting The Ring, and then letting Frodo go. Despite their greed and lust for The Ring's power, they showed us that there was still good left in Men; a good worthy of inheriting a beautiful Middle Earth after Sauron's final defeat. ...and...DISCUSS!

Greetings, all. Will's oldest brother here. I'd like to open up a discussion on this video: What is your favorite scene with Boromir, and why? Or, perhaps, do you have a favorite line of Boromir's? Mine is where Boromir says, "I would have followed you my brother, my captain, my KING." I love that the "my King" were his last two words; as, when we first meet Boromir in Rivendell, Boromir says, "Gondor has no King. Gondor needs no King." These two lines show a full and complete finish of the character's story arch, as Boromir goes from denying his rightful King, to accepting him as his rightful King and heir to Minas Tirith and all of Gondor. ...and...DISCUSS!

I don't recall how accurate it is to the text, but I appreciate how warm and almost paternal he is with the Hobbits in the films, as well as his acknowledging of more human, less practical (or even *impractical*) needs. For instance, when he implores Aragorn to give them a moment to grieve Gandalf right as they exit Moria. It evidences a nearer, less lofty sort of love than we see in Aragorn, Galadriel, Legolas, or even Gandalf. The bit where he spars and wrestles with Merry and Pippin is a standout for me wrt this.

I think people also look down unfavorably on Boromir because they compare him to Aragorn, but it’s kind of unfair to do so. They don’t realize he is a mortal man, Aragorn isn’t. Not fully. He’s a Dunedain, they have exceptional strength. Mortal man is the most susceptible to the temptation of the ring, and he resisted despite a deep sense of duty and kept his honor. One of the biggest tragedies of the trilogy is we don’t get to see Boromir realize the glory of man restored once Sauron is defeated. No doubt he would’ve fought bravely at Helm’s Deep, and across Pelenor Fields

Wow. What an amazing and fantastic post! I agree with everything you said. I also loved your two ideas about Boromir I never thought about: I would have loved to see Boromir fight on Pelannor Fields! That would have been so cool. I also would have loved to see Boromir enjoy the all the light and beauty he preached about in his speech in the Extended Edition restored to Minas Tirith after Sauron's final defeat. It's sad that Will, the creator of this video, is no longer with us and able to enjoy the light and beauty of all the people who knew him while he was still alive. But, his legacy will live on, very much like that of Boromir's legacy; being his best self, despite all his challenges, right until the very end.

@@VirtueInsightWebPage oh, I’m sorry to hear that. I really enjoyed the video, he did a great job with it! I also like to think that Boromir really had a deep connection with Merry and Pippin. Based on what he said in the extended edition about music and drinking, my guess is he had a deep appreciation for merry making and had an appetite for life’s pleasures much like the two hobbits did, so I imagine they bonded over that. I also think Boromir was the quintessential loving big brother and role model who looked kindly upon those who’s talents and skills were not yet realized and inspired them, bolstering his own brother as well as Merry and Pippin. He would’ve delighted to see them serve selflessly in battle and would’ve fought alongside them proudly

Same here. I loved when Aragorn rushed to Boromir's injured side, Boromir did not ask where The Ring was. He asked where Frodo was, as if to ask if he was safe; and felt so bad about trying to take The Ring from Frodo. Such a great and complex character!

Boromir is the best character of the trilogy, don't try to change my mind because you can't. Despite the fact that he only appears in the first movie (technically there are also the flashbacks and he's mentioned by other characters) and doesn't have that much screen time, his character goes through a very significant development and his death is very meaningful, it has a great impact on the story, the Fellowship and many other people all over Middle-earth. I love his character so much that I made him my profile picture, with sunglasses to make him even cooler. It's a real shame that so many people misunderstand Boromir the first time they watch the movies, it's even sadder how some don't really learn anything about him in the end, still thinking of him as a somewhat bad guy. He was a good man, maybe even the best.

Haven't read the books, but my biggest criticism of fellowship the film is that i think Aragorn and Boromir should have at least ONE (1) moment of personal companionship with eachother before the death. They call eachother brothers and the scene is written and acted as if they were pretty close, i think convincingly, but it irks me that i never got that impression up until that moment. They have like one single exchange where Aragorn doesn't seem at best annoyed with Boromir. His promise to boromir is what kickstarts aragorns character arc, if more weight was put on that as a promise to a friend and not the country they have in common i think it would resonate so much more

that being said, boromir himself is my favourite LOTR character. He fills my perfect little niches in a character: He's kind of a fuckup whos trying so fucking hard to do good AND he has daddy issues and a constant fear of his fathers love being conditional??? delicious. Scrumptious. I also think he has the most gorgeous costume. And Sean is like one of the best actors in the first film.

I loved Boromir in both the books and movies, he is a fascinating character well played by Sean Bean and a man I see as far more good than people give him credit for. I think the people who tend to be hard on Boromir tend to forget his background and where he comes from, who his father and brother is and what has happened in Gondor and what danger this kingdom is in. I find it strange people can be so hard on Boromir and give so many far far worse people in this world a pass as world, cinema, media, financial and educational leaders for I have no doubt Boromir would have done a far greater job leading this world than any leader we have in the world today. I am only sad we did not see more of Boromir, though I think both the books and movies did the right thing about how they had Boromir die. I do have a little bit of a gripe with Peter Jackson though about how super hero like he made Legolas compared to Boromir in fighting. I think that is a shame, as I did not at all get the impression from the books that Legolas or Gimli was that superior to him. I think Peter Jackson should have either toned down Legolas a bit, or given Boromir a more heroic death which show cased his fighting stills, and passion to redeem himself when he realized the mistake he had made.

Boromir's role in the story isn't to demonstrate the weakness of man, but the strength of the Ring. He's the answer to the inevitable question "why not use the Ring against Sauron?" and proof that, no matter how selfless their motivation, anyone who craves power is an easy target for the Ring because power is the one thing the it will always be able to promise.

It relates to borimir and denethor but something that just makes these films so amazing is normally a movie adaptation is seen as a lesser or abridged version of the source material. The LOTR trilogy works almost as a companion piece to a point where if somone wanted to get into the series I would siggest watching the movies either before or while the read the books.

I feel like an alternative explanation for a lot of his lines and actions and the way in which they're delivered, other than being an angel, is that he's a man of absolute Faith who views it with absolute certainty and clarity, though it's clear there are some things he probably shouldn't know (could be that he's just very good at reading people?). I do very much like the angel theory, but I also like the possibility that he might be the only man there Balian encounters with true, unshakable faith.
