Hey, obviously a great presentation and you were getting lots of positive comments, but do you by any chance do one that’s a little less advanced? I am 100% just starting out with lighting and purchased a pair of these guys and to be honest, you were going so fast I couldn’t make heads or tails out of much (most?) of what you were saying. Obviously, most of the folks here seem to already have a working knowledge of DMX and lighting in this and so they were right on point with you, but I’m really needing someone to give me the “idiot instructions” (“ OK, now you see this button right here? This is what this button does when you push it“. “This button here will give you the option to turn reverse hand on or off, now this is what reverse pan on is….. and this is what reverse pan off is…..”, “ now, here are the steps that you need to follow in order to turn on the sound mode”, etc.). I think I’m just needing some more remedial guidance on these things, lol. 🤷‍♂️

Hi, I’m sorry that the video was too fast for you. Unfortunately I do not have the time to make videos anymore; but I think that with just reading the manual and playing around with the light you’ll be able to figure it out. Everything can be accessed by hitting just the menu button, you can read the manual to find out what each thing in the menu does and determine if you want to turn it on/off or enter that mode. if you’re just starting out with lighting, you do not need DMX, unless you’re doing some big synchronized show. The only thing you would do regarding DMX in this case is if you had 2 or more of them; Then you’d do a “master-slave” configuration where you connect the DMX out of one light into the DMX in of the other so that they are synchronized, and maybe do a pan/tilt reverse on the second one so that they move in a more interesting pattern.

I had the same problem, reached temperature but had a no fire issue. My first problem was the fluid line was dried and broken, second problem the pump was vapor locked. Replaced the line and opened the pump, pushed it in and let the spring release and put it all back together amd everything worked just fine. I thought it was all good until o tried testing DMX and noticed pin 1 and 2 had been broke off, then removed the board amd soldered in a new five pin. Works like new.

I don’t use them that much, but they do still work. I think that they are great for the price i paid ($50 each), they are really bright and are pretty quick, but they are cheaply made and the tilt motor has to be the worst part of this thing, it’s just so loose any bump would throw it off. Nowadays, I would probably save my money for something better, but for someone who is just doing parties, buying lights for kids, or having a light show in the basement they are great

Do you know why the mirrors bang into the unit when moving how do you fix that?
@aaronproductionslighting
@aaronproductionslighting Жыл бұрын
if you’re referring to when it happens when you first plug it in, that is completely normal. The motors do not have any sensors so they use the motor stopping as a message to tell the unit that the mirror is at the end. But if it’s doing that after the initial turn on one, then there is an issue. I’ve had it happen with these when I use them outside and it’s cold I guess the motors don’t like the cold and get knocked out of position which causes the motor to get out of alignment and then jam up when it hits the end stop

What is a cheap DMX controller for this light that you would recommend? Thanks again
@aaronproductionslighting
@aaronproductionslighting Жыл бұрын
For this light, the cheapest I would go with is a chauvet Obey 40, you can get cheaper controllers on eBay/amazon that do the same thing, just look for something that can handle at least 10 or more channels, and has at least 6 faders per "page" in order to make it so you dont have to click a button to go back and forth in order to program this light. If you're looking for a software solution, ShowXpress is great if you plan on expanding your lighting invnetory and want to have things like buttons you can click for scenes, buttons to flash lights on, a timeline sequence, midi control, etc.

Hopefully I'll have my 2022 show finished soon.

I still edit on S4, if i do my pixel tree I may use S5 to program it, but when you use so many channels like me, the lack of the “channel configuration” tab in the newer software sucks… I had to change every unit ID because of a conflict issue, and with the channel config page in S4 it took a few minutes, whereas in S5 I would need to go and open every channel individually

@@aaronproductionslighting I have Phil on LOR forums to thank for sorting out my grouping issues I didn't know I had. He laid out my issues wholistically and talked some sense into my head. Initially when I asked you for assistance I had no concept of grouping and what that meant in terms of my applications in the S5 or S6 LOR software. But I see that grouping all my mover lights according to function was exactly what I needed. Since I have 8 movers, grouping made working with them much easier. That also made writing chases loads easier, either with the chase function or by hand. I think I have 150+ dmx channels and 32 channels of xmas lights now. Matt also helped me sort out some technical issues with my showtime director. I can't comment on your channel configuration issues, as my software came stock with S5, and I was only on S5 for a few weeks before I had to upgrade to S6. So I mostly learned on S6 with some help from Phil.

@aaronproductionslighting
@aaronproductionslighting 2 жыл бұрын
I do not believe that is possible with any of their moving heads, including their most expensive ones; but it would be called pan/tilt speed. If you’re looking for control you would need to use DMX, some software based DMX controllers allow for audio to trigger cues. Though, now I wonder if the moving heads that have the ability to use DMX to trigger the auto programs and have a pan/tilt speed control channel can use those commands at the same time to make the auto mode slower… but that would be with a more advanced fixture than this one anyways.

what truss did you use? and did you mount it to the ceiling, im looking to buy one soon and need input, thanks!
@aaronproductionslighting
@aaronproductionslighting 2 жыл бұрын
This was a chauvet ladder truss pack, it comes with 2 T-Bars that the 10ft truss section attaches to; not sure if they sell them anymore but you can find similar online - Just probably will not be the same thickness/quality as the chauvet. These are on the included tripod stands, but if you’re mounting in the ceiling just make sure you use appropriately rated mounting hardware, and if it’s a commercial installation you would need a pro to do it for liability reasons. I currently use regular Box truss totems to hold up my ladder truss, which i would recommend investing in box truss and maybe some crank stands for the best setup option- brands like duratruss and trusst (chauvet) are good.

@@evanturunen No real issues; besides when it rains during the day, that makes the lens fogs up, messing up the image for like a half hour when it first turns on till the rain burns off. these fixtures are like a hot stove, and since the only thing in my area that would ruin it is rain or snow, and i turn it on every night, the precipitation gets boiled off before rust can form. I have a couple S4s and this one is my crappy one, the paint is all chipped off (not sure if it’s lead paint or what… don’t think they made them with lead paint though), so i guess i’m not really sure if a brand new or nice looking S4 would come out looking the same after a month outside, I only know a crappy one comes out the same amount of crappy 😂. I did think that the glass would break from the temperature difference cause where i live it’s like 30 degrees, but no issues with the lens, reflector, or lamp after the whole month. My local six flags park uses them outside for their halloween and christmas events and they all seem to have held up just as good as if they were inside.
