We in South Africa (Calla lilly is indigenous to SA) insert a yakitori stick (bamboo skewer - sometimes 2 or 3, depending on the thickness of the stem) inside the stem of the Calla lilly, before placing it in the kenzan. Thank you sensei for a great reminder. I still struggle a bit with thinning flowers out, but I am learning. The other thing is that I use the leftovers in ever smaller and smaller arrangements, so that I usually end up with at least one arrangement in every room of the house. What could be better?
