Thank you for this summary of the thinking behind the "no lock" rule. I imagine the idea must be to discourage the use of pocket knives in a stsbbing motion. Coincidentally I also own a 7 cm Opinelband a 7cm Joker. In the past, I've considered removing the ring from my Opinel to permit daily carry, as it pains me that I never use it; the Joker gets all the action. I wonder whether it might be enough in law if I were to superglue the ring so it can't revolve about the handle.

You can easily take the collar off with pliers

@@Trad. I like the look of the collar, though - and this Opinel was a gift from my dad, so I don't want to change it too much but would love to carry and use it. That's why I thought of glueing it, but perhaps that wouldn't protect me from the law.

A very nice looking knife. I just ordered one with bubinga wood. My previous Joker knife I returned due to the fact someone had placed the rotating lock on upside down. I kinda felt like it was jinxed.

Could a thump stud be used with this for one hand opening?

I've got this model, almost exactly the same but with a 9cm blade and 11cm handle. I love it. The steel takes a very fine edge and for such a thin, slicey blade the knife overall has a solid feel. You mentioned patinas and I would add that I got a few drops of Crystal Light on it and it almost instantly got stains on it, so it's obviously very reactive.

Thank you for a very comprehensive and very explained review of this lovely looking knife, I have just recently found Joker knives and have bought the NA74 with horn handles, very pleased. Thank you again, as I have been looking at this knife to add to my collection Take care Sam

5:47 That was my first thought. The pinky notch will help, but wet or fish-slimy 😣. But he is the cutest little guy

Nice video 👍 A knife is a tool and the wrong intentions shoud be punished, not for having a tool, that's for thousands of years on the world. And a locking function is a Safety feature, specially for people with disabilities. And its discrimination against mankind and people with disabilities.

Americans must find this funny :) The Opinel is a toothpick over there

We do, but there are jurisdictions that limit the blade length to 2.5 or 3 inches. Usually it does not matter if the blade locks or not.

What a lovely video, great explanation around the law and the difference between a lock knife and folding knife. I stumbled upon this video as i wanted to investigate why my little no 74 is sharper than my Browning Lock Knife, My fixed blade Columbia, Gerber Gator, Morakniv fixed blade and pretty much any other high quality knife I possess. This knife blows everything I have out of the water and I am confused why.?.. I can only think that it is the carbon steel in this little Joker that just cuts into anything life knife through a slab of butter. That old saying you get what you pay for is totally untrue in this case. I would love the presenter to explain why this little folder is so sharp?

I bought one of those, mostly because I like olive wood and prefer carbon steel blades over stainless. Used it for almost anything including kitchen duties in an effort to get some patina on the blade quickly. When it arrived it was quite sharp and nice to use slicing onions etc but then I made a mistake: I used a diamond steel and strop on it! The knife has gone from razor sharp to scary sharp and slicing onions has been hampered by the fact that the blade digs into my chopping board making it an effort to raise the knife again for the next slice. It retains the edge quite well, not yet blunt enough for use in the kitchen again. On the downside the wood handles were in desperate need of oiling when it was new.

I bought a couple of the cheap Opinel knives without realising they were locking. It's worth mentioning that the locking bands are easily prized off, making them legal to carry.
