This is one of the most damaging things a parent can do to the relationship with their kids. It guarantees they will hide things from you. That's how parents end up being the last to know about what their own kids were up to and everyone looks at them like they're crazy because they can't understand how a parent could not have seen it coming when the reality is that the child stopped confiding in their parent and wore a mask instead of revealing their true self around their parent because they were tired of everyone being in their business.
