The FIFA council (and not FIFA itself) made official the tournament that FIFA considered a FRIENDLY tournament. When the event was created, the two confederations asked FIFA to help organize and make the tournament official. FIFA said “NO”! Worse: when Real Madrid won the first edition, in 1960, and called itself “WORLD CHAMPION”, FIFA vetoed it and ordered the club to refer to the competition only as “INTERCONTINENTAL” (Mundo Deportivo of 11/22/1979). The uneasiness was so great that FIFA even PROHIBITED the tournament in 1961 (Mundo Deportivo, 03/06/1961), unless the clubs agreed to consider it a PRIVATE FRIENDLY tournament. But the competition continued, despite FIFA's disregard. In 1967, when Racing Club Avellaneda and Rangers SC played three violent games in the cup dispute, in the last one having no less than six expulsions, shocking the press and fans, FIFA was accused of escaping its responsibilities by not intervening in the tournament. The entity had to go public to reinforce what it had already said before: it could not do anything because officially it was a FRIENDLY tournament, which was never part of its official competitions (Mundo Deportivo, 11/25/1967).

If INTERCONTINENTAL is “WORLD WIDE”, Santos FC can claim another “world cup”. After all, he won the Supercopa de Campeones INTERCONTINENTALES in 1968! Already, in 1993, the Moroccan Wydad AC [نادي الوداد الرياضي] - winner of the Afro-Asian Cup) - and São Paulo FC (two-time champion of the Coupe Européenne Sudamericaine) would share the glory for the achievements of the TWO existing inter-confederatives. Two questions that “torment” my soul (it's my irony!🤣😂😅): if São Paulo FC hadn't declined to compete in the Inter-American Cup in 1994, and had beaten Deportivo Saprissa, the São Paulo FC would have felt in the right to proclaim themselves three-time “WORLD” champions (since they would have been successful in yet another intercontinental competition)? Without a doubt, the president of CONMEBOL would knock on FIFA's door to ask for another “world cup”, in addition to the 1992 and 1993 ones - which are INTERCONTINENTALS! And if, in 1998, CR Vasco da Gama had defeated Madrid CF in Japan and won the Inter-American Cup against DC United, would he also have declared himself “WORLD” champion twice in less than a week? CR Vasco da Gama lost two “WORLD WORLDS” in December 1998! 🤦🏻‍♂️ Does it follow, then, that the Rio club is runner-up in the “WORLD” three times (since it also lost in 2000)? And if INTERCONTINENTAL is WORLDWIDE, SHOULD Argentina claim the TWO “world cups” won in 2022: the Copa Finalissima (intercontinental CONMEBOL-UEFA) and the World Cup (FIFA)? And can Sevilla FC claim the 2023 UEFA-CONMEBOL Club Challenge? He beat CARE Independiente del Valle in the final...
