Labour councils need to stop wasting tax payers on Benefit Scroungers and Mental people. They should be spending what money they have on new modern buildings for the use of everyone and the many pot holes.

There a pothole forming in our road, how long will it be before the Council arrange for someone to come out and sort it. Mind you when they do the hole will probbe big enough to drop a small car in it, then whe it is mended it will only be half a job and won't probably last five minutes. But not to worry we have all these millions to spend on levelling up with lovely new buildings.

And if you believe this absolute poppycock, then you are more stupid than a clown !! As most people who actually live there say "It's a DUMP". It was the most used adjective I used so frequently whilst living in Bentilee. I complained to the Council many times about the lack of cleanliness everywhere - except Hanley, where all the green spaces were manicured magnificently and the roads swept. BUT just take a step outside of the City Centre, where all the actual inhabitants live, and everywhere is just left to rot. Derelict buildings everywhere, no real infrastructure. The railway station is about two or three miles from the Centre - many visitors would ask me, on arriving in Hanley by bus "where is the station" and all were shocked and disappointed when I told them it was 2/3 miles away and they needed to catch another bus to get there !! 🤨 The council spent millions on a NEW but SMALLER bus station, which looks rather good, but buses have a lot of trouble getting into the station down a very narrow road, and trying to reverse and get out is another nightmare. It is also in a dead-end and God Forbid if there was a fire emergency there I think it would be absolute chaos - although the fire station is literally just across the road, there is NO ACCESS !! This has been so well worked out, it's a JOKE. We all know where the billions are going to go. Lining the pockets of the Council and developers, in back-handers. Read my lips: "It's a DUMP"

I agree with a lot of the comments posted. I'm 62 and my husband is 73. Over the years the more the Council have tried to improve Stoke-on-Trent the worse they've made it. its no use spending money on fancy buildings when you have Hanley town centre that's a dump and getting worse that's putting it politely. Longton, Burslem and Stoke are no better, I cant comment on Tunstall because it's somewhere we don't go. We need affordable housing and there's quite a lot of derelict buildings about with the infrastructure already in place that could be used, old buildings need coming down and if the the ground isn't built on then landscape it. The litter and rubbish that's about needs addressing, I know we can't blame the coucil for dropping litter that's down to the attitude of most of the general public who couldn't give a hoot. We need some quality shops, decent restaurants not just fast food ones that they think everyone wants, nice wine bars, nice cafes' on our door step so that we don't have to travel to Manchester or Birmingham or even London. Although I come from Stoke-on-Trent if I could afford to move I would. We lived in Werrington up until 3 years ago and only moved into Stoke-on-Trent because we wanted to downsize to a bungalow and we couldn't get one in our price range and moving further into the Moorlands was more expensive so we didn't have much choice, at least where we have chosen is quite good but it's not where I would choose to live if I had a choice. So we used to go to Hanley when we needed too and went into Leek town centre because its much nicer. Someone told me once the best view of Stoke-on-Trent is in your rear view mirror.

yes the council have made some mistakes over the years, but to address the housing issue, there are plenty of affordable housing projects going on. i can think of the old victoria ground, middleport and the old royal doulton grounds for starters. These houses are knocked up on the cheap - we really cant complain that this is not happening in the city. if you are not happy with the cheap housing once in them its really just down to trying to improve yourself so that you can move on to the more expensive houses on the outskirts, but those houses are there. to address old buildings need to be knocked down, yes agreed. the council has pulled down old terrace housing and 'eventually' replaced 'most' areas with new houses. other than that, old buildings other than housing, there is no point pulling a building down if nothing can be put in its place as its more cost to the public for no return. investors may not be drawn to the area for many reasons, maybe this is something the council should be getting their finger out more with however, but these things take more time in stoke as it is not london or manchester perhaps. To address the litter, well to address it costs money (again), if you are happy with more council rate hikes perhaps? To address the nice wine bars and cafes, what business of that type is going to risk that sort of venture in stoke on trent? 15 years ago it was said that night life footfall had fallen by two thirds from its peak, this is huge numbers. To make matters worse, Hanley is now completly empty at night, so the trend has only become worse. Times are changing, people just do not have the money to waste (as they once did) on going out. If wine bars and cafes made sufficient money in the inner regions of the city they would be there but they are not. I really dont understand this continual moaning of stoke on trent, yes it really needs improving but this takes time, money and a re-adjustment to the current trends. you do realise this is going on all over the world dont you?
@juliemycock648
@juliemycock648 Жыл бұрын
@@marky78mark Yes I do know that it's going on all over the world, maybe at myself being 63 years of age you didn't think I knew that. I agree improvements take time but how long do the Coucil want. As far as the point in pulling buildings down if there is nothing to put up in its place, then why pull down perfectly good terrace houses in Bucknall Road, I think most of the public thought the site would be built on pronto, but no it took years before those houses were built. The litter I know again is not the fault of the Council but the public, have you seen the videos by St audits. Houses are being built but they are not necessarily affordable and not especially all well built which as we've heard in places are already causing problems. its Social houses that needs building, or perfectly good buildings that are derelict at the moment being utilized for those people that still cannot afford these houses that are being built. But no the Coouncil would rather spend money building carparks that we don't need, they would rather talk about building a new shopping area instead of utilising and improving what Stoke on Trent has already got. You mention that people don't have the money to waste like they once did, myself and my husband have never wasted or waste money when we've gone out we save it to go out for pleasure and the social aspect which there is very little of now. Yes we also know trends are changing, people probably prefer fast food now rather than a nice restaurant or don't want theatre's or wine bars but that doesn't mean the city has to look a mess. I'm sorry that you are fed up with the public moaning about Stoke-on-Trent all the time but the general public are just either fed up of either nothing being done for goodness knows how long or fed up of seeing money being wasted. People may not be able to go out and spend the money but they would feel less fed up whatever their circumstances if the surroundings in Stoke-on-Trent were more appealing instead of feeling like we are heading on a very downward slope, someone said to me the other day that they were dreading to think what it's going to be like in ten years time and they weren't 63 years of age but younger.

Absolute rubbish when Stoke on Trent was on the decline in the 1980's the council never came up with a proper planning structure all they was the bothered about was people who have cars or lining there pockets it's not leveling up. The real issue is for the balance of stoke on Trent they needed a good rail link Train station that runs up to Hanley because that's the centre have all the university and college build in the Etruria for business it brings students in the centre spending money Britannia stadium by Stoke station a metro link more sports stadiums swimming baths and more shops to match Manchester and Birmingham. Or they could use another option just moved the whole city centre into Etruria with old Etruria station to start a fresh like Telford Stafford and West Bromwich which are more affordable set up city with good bus services so it's total waste of time with all the fancy buildings stokes putting up due to in the wrong place
@KILLER.KNIGHT
