That would make things easier but I have a soft tonneau cover. It would really be a pain switching it back and forth
@The_BamadogАй бұрын
Putting in this bed extender causes issues with a soft tonneau cover?? I have a hard rolling tonneau cover and have no issues. Does your soft cover connect to the track system?
@jefftutorow8068Ай бұрын
@ no it’s that you couldn’t leave it hooked up and swing it back and forth without undoing the cover every time
@The_BamadogАй бұрын
@@jefftutorow8068 If I'm reading what you're saying correctly, that would apply to any bed extender since they flip up and back (or forward). Now it can slide along the track freely though. I have to open my tonneau cover in order to flip it as well... I don't know of any bed extender where the cover doesn't have to be rolled back in order to flip the extender. In any case, I hope you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the feedback.

Could rivets be substituted with nuts and bolts from the hardware store? I have zero interest in this if I have to purchase a rivet gun that I will never use again.
@TheKasbig6 ай бұрын
This.
@The_Bamadog6 ай бұрын
I think technically, yes; however, you'll obviously need to drill a hole first and have the bed extender already in place exactly how you want it, and on top of that, keep it steady while drilling the hole all the way through each piece of metal (4 layers - 2 on the outside sleeve and 2 inside). You can't really clamp them down or a clamp could possibly bend the metal too.. so be careful there. The rivot gun is "likely" the best alternative here, but multiple bolts would work if done very carefully. Instead of having a flush rivot on one side of the bed extender, you'd have both sides having a bolt/nut combo showing which might affect the look to an extent. You will also have to be extremely careful not to overtighten or you could bend the bed extender in that spot... in this case, I wouldn't use a lock washer, but a nylon-threaded nut so it doesn't come loose.
@The_Real_Indiana_Joe4 ай бұрын
A rivet gun is pretty cheap, but a bolt would hold a lot better anyway.
@bamadog69304 ай бұрын
@@The_Real_Indiana_Joe Agreed, but having gone thru the process, the rivet offers a cleaner look since only one side of the bar has a silver head showing - and with a bolt, you have to make sure you don't tighten so much that it crushes the bars into each other, disfiguring them to a small degree if done improperly. Since there shouldn't be a major reason to take apart, the rivet, to me, is still the better option - but a bolt will definitely work if a rivet gun is not available. Just be careful when tightening and don't overdo it.

Hi, what's the distance between the mounted rails in the bed on your 2022 Frontier?, what's the part number of the bed extender you installed? I have a 2011 Suzuki Equator pickup truck (which is basically the same frontier's body); I want to be sure this bed extender will fit in my Suzuki Equator before I place the order. Thanks in advanced
@bamadog69306 ай бұрын
Sorry for the delay - I just measured ~58 3/4 inches between rail-to-rail (the metal rail system on the sides); however, keep in mind that the bed extender fits in a notch on 2 black-colored arms that attach to the rail via 2 "wheels" per side... the distance between each notch in each arm on the left and right (the 1/2-hole cutouts) are ~53 1/2 inches. The arms actually protrude inward slightly, so the bed extender isn't as wide as the silver rails themselves. Hopefully that makes sense.
@chico93696 ай бұрын
It makes sense, it looks that bed extender will fit in my Suzuki Equator, I really appreciate the info!

My 2023 no longer has the rails mounted in the bed like prior models.
@bamadog69307 ай бұрын
Mine is a 2022 (same body style) and it's the same for all of them. Since the new body style came out, they no longer put track system rails on the bottom (with rubber slider cap for the 2 bottoms) anymore which really annoyed me. I ended up creating 2 wooden tracks with recessed bolts/washers which you're able to connect through the 2 grommet holes on each side. It was a little tedious, but after I got done measuring, cutting, and drilling, I then painted them black and added some black duct tape around the exact spot where the bed extender sits so it wouldn't wear a spot in the wood. Nissan messed up on that for sure. I miss my 2 bed rails on the bottom like I had in my 2017 Frontier.

About riveting with the gate in place as to ensure proper alignment and width fit of gate into side brackets. I already thought that thru, but I can see others messing that up as the instructions were riddled with errors.

Great video. I just bought this same bed extender for my Titan. Question about the rivets that came with it. Where do they go? and are they even necessary? We put it together and the only thing I goofed up on was the length. It didn't reach the left side initially, but a quick adjustment to the sliding part fixed that. When it was put together minus the rivets, it seemed pretty sturdy. Also, no directions came with the extender at all. So I had no clue what the rivets were for anyways. If you could let me know what the rivets are for, and if they are even crucial to the extender, I'd greatly appreciate it. If I do need them, I guess I'll go to the dealership and have them install them. Again, good video.
@The_Bamadog2 жыл бұрын
Here is the link to your 2022 TITAN Sliding Bed Extender: www.nissan-techinfo.com/asistgc_1/USENG/diskdocs/1/U/X/1UX2.PDF They are necessary in my opinion. 2 sets are used on each side and keep the pipes from sliding into each other. The upright brackets may help keep them stable, but the rivets will definitely do the job in case there is a lot of jostling around. You'll see where they go in the PDF in this comment, but they are hidden under where the bracket attaches at the connection points on each side. They go in the 2 bars that extend all the way across (not the shorter one). Keep in mind the advice I gave regarding the rivets - you want to make sure the extender is already in the truck in the correct position while you drill - and only do one hole/rivet at a time, otherwise you risk the holes not lining up if you do more than 1 at a time. Hope that helps.

I'm using the same cover on my 22 S model. I didn't have the same fit issues, but I used the red weather seal on the length of the bed rail. With the tailgate closed I can still latch my tonneau closed. I actually wish it just extended a little further over the top of the tailgate for better weather proofing. All in all a great cover. Bak was quick to send replacement parts when my plastic end cap broke off.

I also noticed that the edges of those rails could damage my tailgate factory liner so I readjusted them with a little angle. I’m talking about a minuscule 1/8 of and inch. Thats probably why you couldn’t close the cover with the door close. Because the latch was to far low for engagement, but it looks like road vibrations fixed that for you. I only wish instructions were vehicle specific. My other experience with that same Frontier bed size & BakFlip X4s has to do with the already installed weather seal in the back of the cover. The whole thing needs at least 1 inch further back to do it’s purpose. (Keep Water Out) And if you do that, you’re front rubber seal will be flush with the end of the weather strip you installed. No more overhanging. Get inside that bed and have someone close that door to find out.
