Am Jealous, not been out on mine for a couple of weeks. Didn't want to get it dirty as I need to trade it in now I have my full license now. It took me about 2 hours to clean it last time, scraping half of Wales land off it..😂. Must have a ride out next year together.

I love the 400x to be honest and think it would be my perfect bike if it was more suited for a pillion. It's been fantastic so far, though, and not skipped a beat, so I would highly recommend it to anyone. I agree too, the green is by far the best colour! Thanks for tuning in and all the best 👍

No need to worry about the fuel economy - it is nothing short of remarkable on these. The tank capacity is quoted at 16.9L, but actually holds an extra litre if you fill it right up - I believe the quoted capacity is only up to the baffle plate. But riding it fairly economically, as you were for the most part, you can return a reading of 3.4 - 3.6L/100 kms going at about 80 kmh (50 mph) as I do on the many 'roo-infested dirt roads around here (rural South Australia) and 3.9 - 4.2L/100 kms going at 100 kmh (60 mph) or 110 (70 mph). That is mostly staying in 6th gear, which this engine will pull down to surprisingly low revs. At 4.4L = 1 x gallon, that puts its economy between 70 - 80 mpg! Amazing for a 750, with this turn of speed (but we have no traffic or traffic lights down here). This gives it a tank range of 400 kms, or about 250 miles (I am over 21,000 kms now). I did 410 kms from a tank once, and still never ran out. You will find the economy is affected most by revs and choice of gear, and wind direction. On our metric models, 106 kmh equals 100 in reality when checked against the GPS. Worth knowing this 6% margin, although the mph models may be a slightly different error. I leave mine in Sport, which is maximum power, minimal engine brake, and minimal traction control and ABS. Turning the last two functions off for loose surfaces (in User mode) is tedious to do, so I am mostly just in Sport, with some flickering of the TC light when setting off, or on steep inclines. I find the intrusion of the TC in Gravel mode is just annoying, and not really useable. Definitely a learner-only option. Personally I would refer it without all this ABS and modes bollocks, but that's just me, having ridden since the mid-Jurassic period! I picked up a Triumph Scrambler 400 for a friend recently, and rode it the 100 kms back here from the city for him, and found it too slow, and too small for the main roads - especially as I had to run it in... The Transalp will probably represent a good step forward for you, and will do longer distances with far greater ease. The fuel consumption at open road speeds is probably similar, as the Honda is doing 2,000 RPM less than the Triumph at 100 kmh (60 mph). The Honda tacho much easier to read going along than the Triumph's little revs display! Enjoy your Transalp if you end up getting one. They are a model which grows on you as you go, and the engine actually becomes smoother and 'sweeter' after about 5,000 kms - say about 3,000 miles. I have been riding for 62 years, mostly on Ducatis, but find the Transalp a bike which is just easy and likeable to own, if you are tall enough to feel comfortable. Definitely a step forward from my old Cagiva Elefant 750 for this style of machine, and far more economical on fuel. Important out here, with no fuel outlet for miles.
@patkennedy1
@patkennedy1 3 күн бұрын
Just to clarify these above measures - we had the Imperial gallon here, before going metric in the early '70s. IE, 4.4L equals a gallon, as against the smaller US gallon - about 3.8L. Also worth knowing that when the last fuel 'bar' starts flashing on the Transalp, you still have 3.7L left - enough for about 80 kms or 50 miles. US owners will have to do the conversion as punishment for being different! 😊 The US export model also has less horsepower, so its consumption may also be slightly different.

Thank you so much for the reply. This is such great information and really helpful! The Transalp is definitely top of my list, and this just confirms it really as I plan to seriously rack up the miles should I go for it. I've been looking at tons of bikes, but keep coming back to this one as it's just such a great all rounder. Appreciate you tuning in and thanks again for the advice 👍

Nice video. Love the Elan Valley and around there. Never tried heated gloves as I use the Rukka GTX 3 Chamb Gore-tex (lobster) Gloves. Because the fingers are mainly together, like mittens, they stay nice and warm and don't really need the heated grips on. Just a thought, but the Scrambler looks ideal for that sort of leisurely ride out.

Honda are giving a MPG of 65-66 (4.3 litres per 100km). According to Fuelly, users give a slightly higher figure of 68mpg (unusually; normally the manufacturer's estimate is higher than real world). Not bad for a 750cc.

@@666dualsport Yes well my car is a 6L V8 also, but the importance of the fuel range on this bike is all about not running out - little to do with cost. Here in rural South Australia I can assure you that the fuel range (400 kms or 250 miles) is extremely important, with towns and fuel supplies often far apart. You know - the sort of country this model was specifically designed for...

Lovely to see footage of the Cwm Elan to Aberystwyth mountain road. I studied in Aberystwyth in the 90s and drove along it a couple of times, and took my parents down it when they came out to pick me up. The scenery is gorgeous; the despoliation of parts of it by the mining industry not so much. Reminds me a bit of the song "Paradise" by John Prine (about strip mining in the US). The odd thing is the stretches of two-lane road in between stretches of single-track. Clearly it was upgraded at some point, maybe for the mining, maybe because they imagined making it a main road.

Thanks for watching! I love the speed 400 and would have got one had I not been too tall. The bar risers fit perfectly with lots of play left for the cables. I did talk about it in more detail but had to cut it out as I couldn't get my words out due to the cold! I did originally buy some that raised them by 22mm and drew them in closer. The cables didn't allow me to fit that one. This one just raises it by 18mm, though, and I think that's the sweet spot (for my bike anyway). All the best, and thanks again for tuning in 👍

Us four oldies did that road when we stayed in Lampeter for a few days, it’s really nice and weather was decent as well, it was summer. Why haven’t you hand guards thought they were standard on that bike, could be wrong of course. Those heated gloves look good, I have Yamaha heated grips on my Tracer 7 GT and they are pretty useless, gloves would be a better idea. Tempted to trade in my Tracer for the scrambler, I’m 76 soon so that would suit me, lighter than the tracer and more fun I reckon.

Hi, they are great, in all honesty. Tough as nails and good for shifting with the toe cap. I used them for about 4-5 rides, but as my feet are so big, the clearance wasn't quite there, and it was a bit too much of an effort to up shift. I've therefore relegated them to my walking boots and bought some Ride & Sons Worker MC Boots in black instead (they are stunning and look similar to Red Wings from a distance). If you don't have size 12 feet, then the Vans could be a really great alternative, but for me, they didn't quite work. Hope that helps!

Hi James, great video again 😆👍. I am curious - have you upgraded the 400x to a 15 tooth front sprocket?

I studied in Aberystwyth for three years and although I took the opportunity to explore the countryside, I never visited any of the lakes. I remembered hearing the story of Llyn Celyn near Bala, where a village was destroyed to provide more water for Liverpool, and the residents decanted to a new estate on the edge of Bala. That one looks amazing though. It was a village that was submerged at Lake Vyrnwy, not a whole town.

@IndigoJo thanks for watching, really appreciate it! It's fascinating how they built Lake Vrynwy and how the village (slip of the tongue referring to it as a town!) was sunk to make way for it. It may be man made beauty, but it's beautiful nonetheless!

This was a very nice video. The scenery was spectacular, and it was good to hear the engine purring in the background while you spoke. A real plus was having no music. Thank you.

Thank you. I'm glad you liked it 😃 I have the same thoughts as yourself. Music just appoys me on motorcycle videos, so there definitely won't be any on this channel 👍
