Really enjoyed the conversation but unfortunately my main takeaway is a feeling of bewilderment that Steve Albini, truly of all people, would be taken to task for using the word "chick" in a song.

Personally, I don’t think Kurt would have picked Paul McCartney over David Yow. I actually think Kurt would have went punk even if it meant getting Jello Biafra.

Oh damn, he was working on hitting notes for that. I was hoping it would be a Kim Gordon Aneurysm 2.0 yowlfest. Anyway, his singing in Qui was awesome.

lol... someone has to ask Dave about this. The singer of Kurt's favourite band taking vocal lessons for months specifically for this and then Dave going "Nah, I want Joan Jett!" is just too funny to be true. Would have loved to see that performance.

I interviewed Jem for the promotion of the film. I remember he mostly spoke about his upcoming project on Benjamin Smoke. I really loved seeing all of that footage when it came out. This was pre-KZbin. Great soundtrack too. Fugazi are one of the rare bands to end on two of their best albums. End Hits is probably my favorite, but they were strong through the last tour. Glad I got to see them a few times

Benjamin Smoke is one of my favorite music documentaries. I just felt drawn to the pictures on the cover and had seen other films by Jen. I had never even heard of Benjamin or Smoke before watching it. For me, it was the perfect way to discover both.

If you never been addicted to drugs and alcohol then you have never will know what it is like to SUFFER threw it. Now All apologies here my brother "committed" his own demise! It is disheartening to know that part of the reason he did it was because his x had an abortion! The girls father had despised my brother and he also had severe head traumas in his life.. Now this is heresay naw but Kurt and Kristen Phaff were becoming a flame Kurt bought his favorite book and gave it to Kristen Courtneys bass player left Hole and was moving on when she was given a hot shot of herion a month after Kurts passing. They found out afterwards that Kurt had his attorney draw up devorse papers and a new will removing Courtney BUUUTTT That ended abruptly with his death.... Their nanny had said the last time she was with cl she was pretty mad and was talking "will talk" there was too much will talk. Hmmm just sad.. I recall living back in the 90s alot of people in the "underground" scene would say Go to hell and then say Ill see you there in the same sentence. Like we know what we are doing and we know where it will bring us...

Among so many other things, his stance on marketing and pre-release hype is so admirable. I can totally relate to that, since I hate marketing myself as well. I’m still devastated by his demise. He was my musical soul brother. Thank you for this incredible interview. I’ve had the album on endless repeat for over two months now, and really needed this to appreciate it even more.

I can’t believe I’m so out of touch with my former heroes that I didn’t know Rick had died. I’m trying to be grateful for him and his art and music and let that feeling overcome the sadness that just gripped me by such devastating news. May God continue to bless Rick and his family. This news brought me back to his music and interviews and I can genuinely say that my view of Rick has only been increased tenfold! And hearing John Reis’s love for Rick (in a different interview) has really been a comfort, forgive me for saying it that way, but I think it only establishes more credibility to their characters. (as I’ve been in many bands, and understand how difficult it can be to maintain love and respect under such intimately sustained environments.) Long post. Sorry. I just found this channel and love it.
