This one took awhile for me to get into but it’s infectious as soon as it does

Many people found lost love was corny, and I can understand why, but when you think that the dude lost his wife and two children to the plague, it hits hard. It's not like a random breakup song or whatever. What people called "corny", I call it "drama", and I love it

I spent many hours as my 14 yr old self listening to this album on my record player back in '81. Heaven and Hell and this album, especially with Vinny on drums, inspired me to play drums, along with Neil Peart. The Appice brothers were my drum instructors and my biggest influences. I learned how to play drums and how to read drum tablature from Realistic Rock.

I love the live album “Unleashed in the East” - the songs from these early albums are so much better live. Definitely an album worth checking out, especially the version of “Victim of Changes”

Reminding me how much I like how they put this album together to tell the story. You are now past him learning about his powers, he saw death coming, then he lost wife and child and starting his fall from grace and thought of as a heretic. I think you are going to really like the second half. Priest!!!!

Can't wait for disc 2. Its much better imo All longer songs are awesome (but there are still these short fillers so its not perfect)

We had brutal heat in June, then July has been mostly pleasant - until today when it got really hot and humid again. This album is definitely difficult to absorb in one listen, and definitely a very unique artistic direction for Priest. Death is the pick of this batch for me. It's like Rob singing for Black Sabbath - LOL. And I think the scream sounds are part of the character he was getting into with this song. He does a wide variety on this album to bring out various characters and aspects of Nostradamus' character.

Whomever decided to add a bonus track from this era to an already perfect Stained Class, should be called out and flogged or something. Pure lunacy...

It's funny because there are the four horsemen of apocalypse, which represent respectively War, Pestilence, Famine and Death, which are mentioned in this section of the album. If I recall correctly, Nostradamus sees the plague as a punishment from God for men's greed and overall increasing development (in 1500s, it's the end of the middle ages, it's a great time of discoveries and new horizons) and in his writings this is materialized by mentions of what traductors interpreted as signs of industry, 200-300 years prior to when it actually started happening. Nostradamus suggested that industry would be the vector through which men express their greed and perversion, and that it was going to bring doom upon earth : this is mostly what is depicted in the goofy music video for "War" also (there are reasons why this video is poorly made btw, someone in the comment sections of the video explained everything, you can go check out of you wish.) I just wanted to add that in fact it's extremely difficult for traductors to transcribe what Nostradamus was actually writing, because he was using a very vague language and sometimes mixing old french, latin and greek languages. In the end, it is probable that the traductors also interpret his writings from what they know actually happens in history, and not from what is really written since it's so vague and all mixed up. People see what they want to see, to put it that way. I hope my english is understandable and that I'm not too annoying lol. Great video, always a pleasure to go through the Priest journey on this channel ! 🤘

According to Brian, Freddie did the looping all by himself. Brian said he didn't know that it could be done without the proper equipment. He said Freddie was like a living metronome.

Death gets better and better. It's dark and heavy as hell. It really creates an eerie atmosphere. It's one of the best songs here.

I dont know dude, you percieved Death like "rob not sounding good" while its one of his best vocal deliveries in the last 30 years and said "sands of time/pestilence and plague" is "ok", while its one of the best Priest songs ever. Dont know, you seem very off with this specific reaction, and i mean you never di, but that's just my opinion.
@TheMetalJunkieКүн бұрын
Rob's vocals sounded great as I stated, except for 2 particular screams. Just because a song doesn't do it for me doesn't mean I'm "off on my reaction" lol its just my opinion on the track. I'm not going to like everything I hear and I'm gonna be honest about it. Plus remember this is a first time listen. I might fall in love with it over time

Italian. And the songs they played live sounded awesome! They were not symphonic and sounded heavier. Death sounds like a Black Sabbath song, they played it on every show on the tour.

Think allegorically. They're painting a series of pictures, and each leads to the next. When you're wondering about the butchering, it's right after the battle of good and evil. edit PS: the Apocalypse in 9/8 is bar of 5/4 and then 4/4, rather that the traditional "triple" waltz time. It's the 5 against 4 tension that underpins the selection.

Rob Halford hired an Italian tutor to ensure he pronounced the words correctly. "Nella tentazione, cercando la Gloria, il prezzota pagare, Ella caduta del huomo." It translates to: Into temptation, in search of glory, the price we pay, the fall of man.
@davidedipaolo8640Күн бұрын
I'm Italian and "cercando" sounds pretty weird cause the word finishes with a different "ó", but incredible song. It's "Il prezzo da pagare è la caduta dell'uomo" btw

I think it is Italian, not a bad song. Death is great, they played it live a couple times. As far as not playing the album though, it totally works as background music to working around the house, yard or garage. Priest!!!

You are somewhat right about the parts, but that is part of the genius of Voivod. They weave all these seemingly disparate parts together into something cohesive. It's a rhythm inside of a rhythm. When you listen to it more it makes more sense. Plus the 80s stuff can sound dated at times now.

Stained Class, this album was introduced to me by an older party friend while I was a sophomore in High School in 1977. This album forever changed me. Even though I didn't have a lot of money I HAD to buy it and it became a staple in my rotation ever since. I never had a favorite song from it back then because I absolutely loved every song, but I think today it would be Saints In Hell.

Unlike Maiden Priest take chances and try different things. Their only flop for me was Turbo . Nostradamus is a great effort.Almost no fillers.war is not the greatest track , I agree.

This album is a musical masterpiece. Many people can't get it from the first listening. It takes time in one's head and several relistening. And the whole album is A WHOLE. Imho the best one's can listen to it is to lay down, close your eyes and listen the whole album from beginning to the end. It has little meaning to separate it to songs.

Was soll das?

Basically, in the previous track Revelations, Nostradamus is discovering his gift and becoming more and more accepting towards it until embracing it completely during the last section, and now War is the vision of apocalypse he had. The whole album really has to be taken from the perspective of Nostradamus speaking, it's all bound either to visions he wrote about, or bound to what actually happened in his life in a chronological order. I might comment a bit about what I know in future videos, if I find anything interesting to say, it's really cool. By the way, I'm french and Nostradamus lived not very far from where I live ! This guy had some serious stuff happen in his life, even if I don't believe he actually was a prophet. Great video as always ! Looking forward to the next ones !

I have never seen that video before - I was sure it was fan-made until you commented about it appears to be "official" LOL. I am totally down with long songs / albums telling a big sweeping story as long as it stays interesting. To me this album struggles to hold my interest for the whole thing. These are 2 of the songs that don't do it for me. Some others coming up are EPIC though.
