Great video. There is one thing I am unclear about. My project contains Rec.709, HLG BT 2020 and S-log footage, am I right in thinking I should be using DR Color Managed Setting, Rec.709 input and working space and CSTs for the HLG and S-log footage?

Clean setup. I'm kinda wishing now that I hadn't jumped on the 6k pro as the pyxis looks like it can be rigged up as much or as little as you need. Subscribed, looking forward to footage from it.

Thank you very much Raoul for your excellent video. Very much appreciated. Quick question if you dont mind please. I am shooting video on a Kodak Pixpro AZ421 1280x720 HD .mov H264 High L3.1 . I am trying to find the best input colour space setting . I have set input to REC 709 (scene) Timeline DaVinci WG Intermediate Output Rec 709 Gamma 2.4. Just wondering if I am correct in this? I have searched forums for correct .mov input settings to no avail. My monitor outputs are consumer devises ie phones tablets and television monitors viewing the content I upload to KZbin. Thanks again

Wow time sure does fly. Anyway I’ll be honest I’ve never run into this before. I did some digging online and apparently if you export the entire project, delete the project in project manager, and then import the project again that seems to have fixed the issue for some people. I can’t verify if this works though since I’ve never run into it so if you try it just make sure everything’s backed up.
@edielayland82115 ай бұрын
@@RaoulEnoiu I’ll give that a try tomorrow morning. I did try copying the project to another location and saving the still there and I also tried saving it to a variety of places including my desktop. Hopefully your suggestion will do the trick.

Also, what I'm realizing is most 'creative' LUTs are built for rec 709. So does that mean in order to take advantage of them I'll need to change my working space in color managment to rec 709 as opposed to DaVinci WG?
@connormandalla62729 ай бұрын
How did you know that your Kodak 2383 D65 LUT required a cineon input? Is there a way to check LUT input requirements ? Additionally, do you have a good resource for free or paid LUTs that input and output DaVinci Wide Gamut? Thank you!
@RaoulEnoiu9 ай бұрын
The LUTs that come with Resolve have their specifications in the resolve manual I’m pretty sure. It’s been a while since I looked it up but I/O comes from Blackmagic on those.

Thanks for the great video! By sheer coincidence, I’ve been practicing on the exact same RED clip, and it was very reassuring to find your video, and to see that I was right on track with the same workflow and results. The only real difference is that I had a ‘balance’ node to get the image less warm at the beginning of the node tree, then added the split tone look node after that. My results were virtually identical. I guess it’s a positive sign that I’m getting there! Looking forward to watching for more of your videos.

OK, there was a lot that was good about this, but I think you would benefit from reading the Apple Log White Paper... Apple Log specifically bypasses tone mapping and digital sharpening, or as the white paper says "minimal processing". The file size is big because of ProRes (the bitrate and lack of interframe compression), the file resolution is still 4k...not 48 mp or 24 mp (the resolution). 4k footage, is by definition, approximately 8.3 MegaPixels (3840 pixels X 2160 pixels = 8294400 pixels) The color gamut that Apple Log uses is Rec2020, not Rec709. You absolutely nailed that one should use Color Space Transforms (or the project settings color management which does basically the same thing) and I love that you showed the uncorrected log twitter account.
@RaoulEnoiu10 ай бұрын
Love it! Thank you. Admittedly I didn’t read it but I found out later on by messing with it that Rec2020 is the correct option. I should make an updated video now that I’ve used it for a little longer.

Why the nodes ? Please explain.
@MaximoJoshua10 ай бұрын
He is using an Input Transform, which takes the image from the "capture space" which is apple log (should be Rec2020/Apple Log), to the "working space" which is Davinci Wide Gamut/Intermediate, that is the first node. In between, he is adding any other corrections, adjusting exposure, color balance, contrast, saturation, etc. Then he is taking the image from the working space to the delivery space using an output transform, which I think in his case he is outputting to Rec709. it should look like this Apple Log => Davinci Wide Gamut Intermediate => Rec709 The idea is that regardless of what color profile was used to capture the footage, we always work with it in the working color profile of Davinci Wide Gamut Intermediate, meaning I can mix other shots from an Arri or a Sony, but apply the same look to all shots, etc. As an example, let's say I wanted to make an HDR version of my video, I can just change the output transform node to convert the image to HLG for example. Cameras capture footage using their color profiles (Arri Log C, SLog 3, Apple Log) Color graders grade footage using their color profiles (Davinci Wide Gamut Intermediate, ACES cct) People watch footage using their display's color profiles, or the format in which it was delivered to them. (Rec 709, Rec2020, Rec2100, PQ, HLG, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, etc) Color Management is the process of working through these different stages in a mathematical automatic way.

@RaoulEnoiu Жыл бұрын
Yeah not sure why it doesn’t but in Premiere when you copy/paste it’ll move clips and make cuts. DaVinci will not. You have to manually go in and cut in/out and re-arrange. It will point out where it is in your monitor but won’t make any of the edits.

If working colour managed, what input do you select if you have mixed cameras in the timeline? Or is it best in this instance to go the node based route? Thanks. BTW. I paused the video to ask. Apologies if this is addressed later in the video.
@RaoulEnoiu Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! You can do it in both. I’ll cover it more specifically in another video for project settings but I usually color manage in nodes and I think grouping similar cams together and doing it in nodes is easier for me.

Raoul. What you have to teach is very important. Unfortunately your presentation is a bit disorganized and you use esoteric terms that are impossible to follow. We’re watching this because we don’t know this stuff. So using specialized terms we get lost almost immediately. My suggestion is that you work your presentation down to plain language for we beginners. I'm not actually a beginner and i’m having trouble following. That said, I appreciate the time you put into this.
