They were performing in concert halls and theatres. That’s why the front row seems so far from the stage.

Very interesting TRAM Festival. Characterised by an almost complete absence of Trams

Whilst I can understand how it looks, usually there are some sensible reasons for things and some context is then perhaps sometimes needed regarding this. Perhaps you might allow this to be presented here to properly respond to your comments. Firstly, if you look at it's official title, it is a TRANSPORT festival, NOT a "TRAM Festival" and never has been. It is admittedly better known as "Tram Sunday", but that's because "Fleetwood Festival of Transport" is much more of a mouthful and so, despite this coloqual misnomer, it has NEVER been a "Tram Festival." Yes, the trams have always been very much a part of it, but only ONE part of it. It started as a transport festival in 1985 admittedly to help celebrate the centenary of Blackpool's trams commencing running in 1885 and for many years, yes the older trams did indeed run through the crowds, until 2001 in fact, when a strike at Blackpool Transport, showed the organisers and also, more importantly, Blackpool Transport's Health and Safety team, just how "waiting to happen" an accident, driving twenty tons of solid metal tram through those massive crowds was. Normally I roll my eyes when H&S is mentioned, but on this occasion, sadly, it probably was justified. For a start off, since then the crowds have over doubled too. It also gave back valuable extra parking space, which recently installed "street furniture" had taken away, as vehicles could now park over the tram tracks, as for the first time, they weren't needed to be kept clear any longer. Also, it was less stressful on the staff driving the trams, as they no longer had to crawl through the crowds, keeping totally vigilant at ALL times, sometimes for several hours non stop and it also thankfully lessened the strain on the ancient trams themselves, having to stop and start all the time, as people maybe got too close for comfort for the tram staff. And the last nail in the coffin of seeing any trams actually running up and down the street anymore, good though that would be to see, is that because of the many and varied temporary structures, especially relating to the fun fair, which the people constructing them might not take into account, to be on the safe side, the power MUST be switched OFF in that complete section, so that nothing can ever accidentally touch the tramway's overhead power lines, as 650 volts usually ruins your day!! Without the certificate that shows this has happened being handed by Blackpool Transport's representative to the organisers on the morning, the festival quite simply CANNOT go ahead at all. Period!! Finally, just to maybe put in context your statement, there were actually several static trams along the street and also from Ash Street (Fisherman's Walk) tram stop, you could catch a choice of many heritage, "B fleet" and Flexity trams, all day, for a proper tram ride, back towards Blackpool at a proper rate of knots, something that was NEVER possible when the trams tried to run, (or perhaps more accurately, crawl), through the huge crowds. Whilst I can genuinely understand why you put what you did, I hope this now maybe helps to put some proper context into your comments. It isn't a "tram festival". There were plenty of heritage and other, trams in and at the edge of the event and the reasons why they no longer can plough through the crowds, has I hope, now been respectfully explained in it's context, above, as to how the event has had to evolve, to allow it to continue to exist.. Many thanks.

@@dancedecker Hi Mr Evans I did a review on Live In Blackpool. Nothing is ever going to be perfect and whilst there are Trams there ( 2 ) they could still call it a Tram festival 👍 Best wishes Peter
