I think it looks great. Most of the people that don't want apartments also don't want higher taxes which they will get if they keep telling people to get out of their town.

Why ?
@burtdiesel343 ай бұрын
Agree with bens point...the best commercial property in town and we put giant apartment buildings on it. What other towns in the area have this type of structure in their main street business district? This is the reason the zoning is there to begin with. Also, the 15 to 19k per student might actually be to low if it does not enable us to execute the school consolidation plans the town has been looking at.
@burtdiesel343 ай бұрын
What will be the impact to the town budget/services after adding 240 apartments (let alone 350)? Based on the department of education discussion it sounds like the potential impact of incoming students could be significant...

Watch Curley attempt to loop Manning into an Ethics Violation for a conflict of interest during discussions on a fire truck purchase, in which Manning is a member of the Portland Fire Dept. Ethics Rule-"In a conflict-of-interest matter, once all questions relating to the deemed or potential conflict have been answered, the Town representative shall recuse himself or herself and immediately leave the meeting room while the matter is under discussion. "Recusals need to be made public at the start of a meeting, per agenda, and the 1 recusing themselves need to leave the meeting during the topic.
@user-ms3cl9db3d6 ай бұрын
Ethics seems to be an issue with the BOS with a town fireman sitting on the BOS an advocating for another fire truck. Over the past 2 years, BOS member Manning has voted on many issues benefiting the fire department, including purchasing a $900K fire truck without recusal. Ethics training is a requirement before being sworn in as board member.

You guys deserve a lot more credit that you're obviously getting for posting this. I'm an Australian engineer. I did aerospace engineering at U. Illinois and infrastructure, including water & waste water, is actually a huge issue in future space missions. Not only is this a major issue across the world with increasing populations, its just as big of an issue with future manned space exploration. No matter if humans are hear on earth or out in space they need water and they produce waste that needs to be treated. If we are ever going to build a moon base of colonise Mars then people like Tom Tyler WILL HAVE TO BE THERE. Its not simply a matter of we'll build it here and fly it there. In fact for many things we can't simply fly that much stuff to the Moon or Mars it has to be built there from local resources. More importantly all that hardware will have to be maintained. The whole subject of infrastructure across the entire developed world is going to become one of the biggest issues. There has been a slackness mainly driven by economists over what costs can be funded. That has put great portions of our basic infrastructure in state of disrepair. There's common things like roads, bridges, rail, water and power with some things being quite noticeable in various place. America has a known problem with bridges, while in Australia its power stations and in Canada its waste water treatment. Great podcast, please keep informing people about things like this.

Very interesting insight into the waste water industry. It sounds like a great opportunity for young engineers and others to make a positive impact.

For the most part, this so-called local high school interview was more informative than some of the major media interviews of Randy Newman. Few stupid questions & always a sincere approach. Some posters joked about the interviewer repeating the words "and so forth..." but I would rather hear that than "you know man," "yeah, yeah right, right..." ya know what I mean..." & the long drawn out pondering of "ahhh..." (the late Merv Griffin was good at the last one). And some experts always use these annoying terms.
