Sorry but this must be the worst course in the UK. Played it years ago, you need clamp-ons to get up the 2nd and you climb over the wooden steps to get over dry stone walls. You have to be lucky to miss the cow and sheep dropping.Would never go back.

@@WebbysWalks my first 5 vids were in portrait mode .Im just gradually re editing them into landscape. Its sometimes a wee bit difficult but still better than they were. I dont watch many golf videos but I love watching others hiking vids.

The greens are always pretty good there. But it does get busy because it’s cheap compared to others in York. Try Heworth similar price and much better even though it’s only 11 holes. 100+ year old course and tricky.

Yeah .i wasnt bothered about it being busy .it was the 2 players in front of me doing my head in. Played Heworth a few years ago .only courses Ive got left near there are Gorforth Rudding Park .Wike Ridge and York Golf Club.

Course I've played a couple times always left me knackered, up & down, up & down, 13th is a nice hole. Value for money course. Testament to your fitness if you were contemplating a game in the afternoon we'll done to you. If your staying in Selby or when in the area again have you tried Scalm Park.

Played Scalm Park in 2020 before I started vids. Wasnt my fav .I remember not likimg the bottom 2 loops at the far end of course. Not got many left to play in that area .Garforth and York golf club only 2 ive not played.

Great review. Viewing your review in early August 2024. I Visited Scotland for the first time last month for the first time and had two nights at the airport hotel before some friends came in and I then played 19 rounds from July 4-18. Turnhouse was my first round in Scotland and I loved it You didn’t mention that the green on the 4th hole is actually a double green sharedceuthnghe 12th hole You had crazy weather during your round Thanks for posting up This review I have a soft spot for Turnhouse GC

I did this walk yesterday - well from the car park to the top of the headland after the biggish beach...... there were loads of golf ball scattered all over the grass as I walked past so I did everyone a good turn and picked them all up and took them back to the club house on my way back 2 hours later....

I played it in June. You're right, the course does need some planning on your first round, but once understood, it's an interesting one. The greens were lightning fast when we played, the course generally in good condition. Well worth a visit - a bit different.

Pity you never got it in the best of condition. Very heavy in March with some drainage problems however new green keeping staff now & course is playing & looking excellent once again.

Fairways are wide but bottleneck on the shorter par 4's over 220 yards so with the wind it's easy to get into rough trouble if you are a longer hitter. GH not JH.

Played here many times in my youth. Never looked forward to the hills, but it is a nice course. Venue of many scratch league games and droitwich shield matches, happy memories 👍🏌️

I do a lot of walking and normally dont notice too much how hilly a course is but you can definitely feel it on this one. But some great holes on here and a terrific challenge.

@@SmithyGolfandSmithyWalks we always used to dread drawing Halesowen or Dudley in the Midlands inter club matches because of the hilly course. As you can imagine, home advantage was massive on these courses, I can't remember winning many ties at Halesowen

One of the quartet of old, hilltop,commonland and natural Gloucs courses, Stinchcome, Painswick, Minchingtonhampyon Old and Cleeve Hill (or Cleeve Cloud) - all worthy tests, - very different than the majority around - some might say "marmite" courses, but I love marmite anyway - Cleeve Cloud by the way has been saved from the abyss in the past few years by a group of extremely willing and able members, and is now getting rave reviews! - keep em coming!

@@SmithyGolfandSmithyWalks Clubhouse is in the process of redecoration so I wasn't even sure it would've been open for you then. Members currently using one small area at the end. It's open to the public as a general bar so anybody can walk in, prices are cheaper than the pub.

Ihf I was trying to design the golf course I hate, it would look like this. I agree with you that they shouldn't be charging £40 for a game. Unfortunately some hotels think they can charge the earth, yet make no attempt to present a course well, as it's just for hotel guests. I thought a score of 1 was a bit generous to be honest

Well done John, confirms Golfshakes average reviewer rate of a miserly 2.8, which is basically as low as it gets! Courses like this just seem to jump on the "high cost" bandwagon, just because others can do so, and then they wonder why they are now not getting many visitors or societies - keep honest and factful, well done on this occasion!!

2nd green was the old 17th, and the 3rd was the 18th, if ye thought the 1st was hard work, back in the day there were two more holes all the way up to the top of the hill.

Played here in a society match back in 1998ish. Like you, thought it was a delightful course and well worth top marks. Felixstowe Ferry and Aldeburgh make this corner of the world a great golfing destination.

Reminds me of golf at Iona, no trees at Iona obviously, but just the rugged feel of the course. It's courses like this that make golf the best sport in the world, in my opinion 👍

I lived on Whalsay for a year. A hundred yards from the golf course. Fantastic place, fantastic people. Oh, and it's pronounced "Wall-zuh".

This was a very immature course when I was down there in the 90s, seems to have come on a fair bit over the ensuing years. Olive is living a charmed life John, you could probably sell her for a small fortune with her powers of water avoidance 💦
