Sorry but this must be the worst course in the UK. Played it years ago, you need clamp-ons to get up the 2nd and you climb over the wooden steps to get over dry stone walls. You have to be lucky to miss the cow and sheep dropping.Would never go back.

The greens are always pretty good there. But it does get busy because it’s cheap compared to others in York. Try Heworth similar price and much better even though it’s only 11 holes. 100+ year old course and tricky.

Course I've played a couple times always left me knackered, up & down, up & down, 13th is a nice hole. Value for money course. Testament to your fitness if you were contemplating a game in the afternoon we'll done to you. If your staying in Selby or when in the area again have you tried Scalm Park.

Played Scalm Park in 2020 before I started vids. Wasnt my fav .I remember not likimg the bottom 2 loops at the far end of course. Not got many left to play in that area .Garforth and York golf club only 2 ive not played.

Great review. Viewing your review in early August 2024. I Visited Scotland for the first time last month for the first time and had two nights at the airport hotel before some friends came in and I then played 19 rounds from July 4-18. I did this walk yesterday - well from the car park to the top of the headland after the biggish beach...... there were loads of golf ball scattered all over the grass as I walked past so I did everyone a good turn and picked them all up and took them back to the club house on my way back 2 hours later....

I played it in June. You're right, the course does need some planning on your first round, but once understood, it's an interesting one. The greens were lightning fast when we played, the course generally in good condition. Well worth a visit - a bit different.

Fairways are wide but bottleneck on the shorter par 4's over 220 yards so with the wind it's easy to get into rough trouble if you are a longer hitter. GH not JH.

One of the quartet of old, hilltop,commonland and natural Gloucs courses, Stinchcome, Painswick, Minchingtonhampyon Old and Cleeve Hill (or Cleeve Cloud) - all worthy tests, - very different than the majority around - some might say "marmite" courses, but I love marmite anyway - Cleeve Cloud by the way has been saved from the abyss in the past few years by a group of extremely willing and able members, and is now getting rave reviews! - keep em coming!

Ihf I was trying to design the golf course I hate, it would look like this. I agree with you that they shouldn't be charging £40 for a game. Unfortunately some hotels think they can charge the earth, yet make no attempt to present a course well, as it's just for hotel guests. I thought a score of 1 was a bit generous to be honest

Courses like this just seem to jump on the "high cost" bandwagon, just because others can do so, and then they wonder why they are now not getting many visitors or societies - keep honest and factful, well done on this occasion!!
