Shoulda mentioned for those interested, the algorithm uses a recursive solver (I think that's what you would call it) with backtracking. Before that, 27 tiles are filled in - the northwest square, center square, and southeast square - 9 tiles each, numbers randomly placed within each square. After the puzzle is solved, a certain amount of numbers are cleared at random depending on the selected difficulty - 45 tiles for beginner, 51 for intermediate, and 57 for advanced.

Needs impact hits about every minute. Could be as simple mid voices chromatic run up to a full band major chord. Also, could use more sections to captivate the audience. Fugue-like section? Battery breakdown? Great transcriptions! Just gotta make your own now. I've been waiting for Dirty Loops to make their way in the marching arts!
@JSGregg6 жыл бұрын
I think hypothetically I would've tortured the brass and woodwinds enough with this arrangement as it is lol. I doubt this would even be doable; it was just a fun project I wanted to attempt. Actually bringing Dirty Loops material onto the field that's remotely faithful to the original would be quite the challenge. But thanks for listening!
@benlove69786 жыл бұрын
Jeremiah S. Gregg I think it could be done. Given, this arrangement has the horn on the face quite a lot, but a good design and concept could provide moments for pageantry. As far as Dirty Loops being doable, some of the solo transcription stuff you have would be problematic but that could be fixed by making it your own. Do you write for any bands/corps?
@JSGregg6 жыл бұрын
Yeah you're right, it could be doable...I think I'd want to change a lot of this arrangement and the other parts of the show if they were going to be performed. Yes I primarily write for a local big band and other small ensembles, but I love writing for marching band/corps! I rarely get to actually do it. I'd love to do it more.

Jeremiah S. Gregg That's cool. I do some big band writing in KC and write for a marching band. Where are you located?

Haha sweet! How did you do this? Did you transcribe the stuff and put it into a score for MIDI?
@JSGregg8 жыл бұрын
+Jack Williams - Thanks! Yes, I transcribed (the best I could) the sections of each song that I wanted to include in the medley and orchestrated it in Finale. I used dynamics in different ways to try to get a decent playback. The whole show was pretty challenging to write but fun!

So, how can i get this track?
@JSGregg9 жыл бұрын
+Trinanda Wibisono - You can find it on Amazon, JW Pepper, or directly on Hal Leonard's website. The full title is Jazz Play-Along Volume 67 - Chick Corea.

Heyy, nice! Btw, can you send me this backing track for piano? [email protected] its my email. Thanks, have a nice day!
@JSGregg9 жыл бұрын
+Trinanda Wibisono - Thank you Trinanda! I don't know if I can legally send you the track, but it's from the Chick Corea Play-Along book by Hal Leonard. The entire book is great and it's easy to remove the piano part from the track - I'd highly recommend it, especially since John Patitucci is playing the bass!

If anyone is interested in a transcription of this performance, just ask! I'm working on it right now; I like to do it as a learning tool to see where I can improve. It's also good for the ears!
