Actually it gets even more confusing as all this is actually happening in the Mind of an Autistic Child from a Tv show from the 1980's as the Tommy Westphall universe interconnects not only with all above but also Blade Runner Alien and Red Dwarf kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4eQh2Onmqymmsksi=DtRTZ_MGSFzG-UcD

I'm curious if this is the reason they got rid of the original Death's Head and created Death's Head II. I've always thought it was strange to 'recreate' a character like that.
@WixhaelКүн бұрын
Maaaaaaybe? Probably not? I suppose it's possible, but from everything I've read, it seems like Marvel UK's Editor-In-Chief Paul Neary just really didn't like the character and insisted on revamping him because he felt that the original was "too dated" (ironically, it's the original that's survived into the modern age, while DHII mostly got left behind in the 90s). Another commented pointed out that Marvel didn't file a trademark for Death's Head until after DHII was created, which is definitely weird, but I kinda doubt that revamping the character had much to do with any legal complications.

You see, Marvel's Transformers crossovers make perfect sense if you just assume that approximately three minutes after the crossover ends, Nick Fury vaporizes every Transformer to ever exist and uses some super spy nonsense to make everyone forget it happened.

There is a truism I have learned, which is that STARTING a collection is always cheaper than FINISHING a collection. Yeah, you get those first pieces for a steal. They might even be the best pieces, the ones you MOST wanted. But it's those last ones that are super hard to track down that cost an arm, leg, and firstborn... And seeing this video was timely, because I just posted my own collection video this morning despairing of ever finding a Blurr I liked for it, because there's no magic combination of a G1-looking robot with a normal-looking Earth alt-mode for Blurr like they've done for Kup, Scourge, Wheelie, etc. 😆
@WixhaelКүн бұрын
Yeah, I've definitely learned that the hard way! As for a normal-looking Earth-mode Blurr, there really aren't a ton of great options, but I'd definitely recommend taking a look at the Platinum Edition repaint of Generations Blurr. The deco is designed to look more like his G1 design, and that's one of the only figures of the character with an earth-mode. Best of luck finding something that works for the collection!

Fun story: I have the original art for High Noon Tex… but I’m in the middle of moving, and JUST before a friend showed me this video, I dropped it off at a friend’s comic shop for safekeeping! Normally I could just walk over to my wall to look at it but I’ll have to pop over there and look for clues later in the week. 😁

Seems to be a lot of people citing copyright without understanding it. Copyrights, trademarks and IP can be transferred. The contract Hasbro had with Marvel was about transferring the ownership of copyright, trademarks and IP based on where and the character made their first published appearance. Copyright is to prevent IP theft, not to circumnavigate fully legal agreements between two or more parties. The contract overrules any original copyright.

Just rewatched this and I can't believe you didn't mention Bonjaxx's birthday party where the doctor takes death's head with him and they canonically meet Bart Simpson, Darth Vader, Conan the barbarian, Worf, the Thunderbirds, sapphire and steel, multiple marvel characters, multiple doctor who monsters and a future version of the doctor, who reveals the true name of the doctor to be Fred. That one is a hell of a comic.

I've béen on this very same attempt to reconcile this clearly false story (it was clearly false to me, at 12 years old) with my love of DH as a Marvel character for about 36 years. Seeing this video for me is like when the two Milhouses met
@darylmillar5 күн бұрын
It seems copyright is secured at the point of creation, not publication. So if High Noon Tex was made as a way of securing the copyright to Death's Head for Marvel before appearing in Transformers, it would do so even if it was published later. As long as it was made before DH appeared in Transformers. The question is - was it? We'll probably never know for sure. Unless there's a dated copy in a Marvel vault somewhere, there's not enough evidence to say either way. Either a version of High Noon Tex was drawn before Transformers #113 and then redrawn before publication, or it was drawn later and the 'official' story is wrong. Transformers #113 was published in May 1987. According to Wikipedia, Bryan Hitch was given his first professional commission by Marvel UK in May or June 1987 for Action Force soon after his 17th birthday in April that year. But it's unclear precisely when he submitted his sample story to them. It's just about possible that, soon before TF#113 was published in May 1987, someone at Marvel UK - probably Richard Starkings, the editor - got Furman to write a one-page story and this was given to the new kid 16- or 17-year-old Hitch to draw as one of his very first tasks for the company. It's possible, but is it likely? As the original artist, and given the timing in 1987, would such a task more usually be given to Geoff Senior at that point? Or is it more likely that Bryan Hitch first drew High Noon Tex in 1988 as a promotional piece when he was given the job of drawing the new Death's Head series (presumably because Geoff Senior was busy with Dragon's Claws)? Again, we'll probably never know. Even if High Noon Tex was drawn after Death's Head appeared in Transformers, the story told may not have been a ploy to keep Hasbro from disputing the copyright. It may just be some people misremembering the sequence of events, making assumptions and retelling the story until it became the 'official' version.

Hey. I like Death's Head II. He's functionally a totally different character than our favorite Freelance Peacekeeping Agent, yes? Death's Head II is grimdark and moody and edgy and extreeeeeeeme! Thankfully they both can and do exist without problem. I I see DHII as a "variant," as they say in the MCU. Stop dumping on my lil' monster-skull-face boi!

There's an elegant solution to this -- and to ALL crossovers. I recommend you read "Shattered Image," a four-issue limited series from 1996. It's from the heyday of Image Comics and it's written by none other than Kurt Busiek. The series was created to explain Rob Liefeld's Extreme Studios elements of the Image world disappearing. In it, super-genius Savant explains how Image's world is actually multiple Earths that overlap with each other. In writing this story, Kurt explains how he sees ALL crossovers. We all know about the straightforward kind of crossover: one where you have to go through some kind of portal to visit another world. "Marvel vs DC" is a prime example of this. But there's also another kind: one where multiple worlds go into a kind of conjunction -- the "Shattered Image" story is an explicit experession of this. In this latter type of crossover, two (or more) worlds cross paths with each other and overlap, merging for a while. When this happens, their characters can meet (or even merge) and, most importantly, their histories merge. Another example of this is "The Uncanny X-Men and The New Teen Titans," which presents a world where the Titans and the X-Men have always have been in the same universe. Robin sees a newspaper headline about the X-Men and wonders why they and the Titans have never met before. The key principle is that while the worlds are in conjunction, not only are their histories merged but also the characters' MEMORIES are merged. And when the worlds go out of conjunction, their histories and their characters' memories un-merge as well, going back to what passes for normal in comic books. This idea explain all of Crossoverology very neatly. It explains why, in "Marvel vs DC," the characters could only meet thanks to the powers of Access... while in 1995's "Spider-Man & Batman," Spidey just took a bus to Gotham.

I would like to see deaths head appear in other franchises. He should be given some kind of multidimensional power to travel throughout existance. Lets give a horror film walk on, maybe put him on terrifier. He may work out there. Then put him in some failing star wars series (the whole franchise is already so fkd up and now a pitiful excuse for a money grab anyway so why not) Then put him in as a joke on a rom com.. maybe even have him in costume and character on Joe Rogan. Im sure cartoon network can use him somewhere too. Lol Perhaps a Kanye video even? Lets campaign to put Deaths Head in practically eveything. Let him smash the hell out of the fourth wall and send him on a crash course throughout our corroded pop culture.

As someone deeply obsessed with documenting crossovers, I love videos like these. Both because I often learn of crossovers I've never heard of, and I like seeing how different people react to the weird interconnected web. Anyway, here's a couple of my favorite little connections. In Mario Maker one costume powerup let's Mario become Shaun the Sheep (a spinoff of Wallace and Gromit). Mortal Kombat 11's Spawn crossover references both Spawn's and Raiden's adventures with DC A device from 2001 A Space Odyssey appears in Watto's junkyark in Star Wars Episode 1. I particularly like this one because it seems to get overlooked for the ET easter egg instead

I had totally forgotten about Deaths Head until this video popped up in my suggestions. The Transformers comic was the only comic I read as a kid, my mum couldn't afford more (my brother got 2000AD), so I read and reread every copy so many times. Deaths Head was such a weird and different character, and I remember loving how it made that world feel bigger and stranger, and it felt like he'd stepped out of the pages of my brothers comic. He looked awesome and spoke in a weird idiosyncratic way, I remember how exciting and dangerous he seemed, he was incredibly cool. And in all those intervening years I had forgotten about him, thank you so much for bringing back a really excellent part of my childhood! Now I have to go and find all this extra stuff, yes?
