I went counterclockwise on this trail as well. This wasn't my favorite trail due to being on the north side of the trail with the sun on the south. I bet going clockwise would be a whole different experience.

MSR Whisperlite will get you through virtually any below zero temperatures with no problem. Little extra weight and it's noisy as an F16 and you won't be simmering with it very well, but it's bombproof and will work reliably in winter conditions.

I am impatiently waiting for my Warbonnet order, which will include a Thunderfly. I also opted for blue. I don't think the ridgeline comes seam sealed, does it? Also I thought they came with loops for side pullouts...?
@jason_in_the_woods
@jason_in_the_woods 8 ай бұрын
The ridgeline doesn't require seam sealing because they use a rolled stitch method. The 13' does require seam sealing where rings and center pole pocket loop are located. I just got the stock 11' which doesn't have the side panel pull outs. I'm planning to get a Dutch Winter Palace eventually and I'll have the pull out on that. It's a great tarp. I love the extra coverage from the beaks and it's super lightweight. You'll be very happy with it.

Do you always camp with a hammock or do you pack a tent on other trips?
@jason_in_the_woods
@jason_in_the_woods 9 ай бұрын
I bring a tent when car camping, especially if Nicole and the dogs are with us but I prefer the hammock. It's just so comfortable. My last two backpacking trips, I've just slept under a tarp on a ground pad. It weighs less and I don't have to worry about bugs in the cold.

Make an account for your channel name. Was hard to search you. Lots of room to improve, but honestly this is fine to leave as is. If you are ok with hassle, look into smaller tree straps (maybe kevlar?) and whoopie slings. Bamboo brush may save weight. Loose first aid bag and maybe cut down stuff inside. Loose some stuff sacks? Replace ground sheet with your sit pad when you get out or hang stuff at foot or head end of hammock OR polycro ground sheet instead. Sometimes use sit pad as underquilt for higher temps. Thru hikers really cut down extra stuff, and I'm not there myself, but consider less things. 100% on a sit pad, love em. Try to little stuff on a short trip, then add back what you missed.

You could probably lose a few ounces by replacing the compass with a lighter plastic one but that would be negligible really. A 750ml titanium pot should be just about all you need for backpacking, and you could shave a few ounces there. You could easily save a pound by replacing the hammock and the probably a bit more by replacing the tarp. A Dutchware halfwit is really light and my Hammock Gear Circadian is 23 ounces which isn't shabby. In reality though you are young and can easily carry 20 pounds with little or no problem, so shaving ounces with high dollar gear might not be super important. The one thing I would recommend getting is a CNOC water bag. It's super easy to fill and with a bit of clear pvc water line you can turn your Sawyer filter into a gravity filter. There are several videos on KZbin that shows you how to rig it so it works. Then you can let gravity filter your water as you set up camp. Again, not a necessity but it makes life a bit easier.

Good feedback! I'm thinking a TOAKS 750 for a pot, and am eventually going to drop some money on a DCF tarp. I love the comfort of this hammock but it is over 2lbs. I was thinking the half zipped instead of the halfwit because it's still only like 18 oz and you can still use the ridgeline for stuff inside the bug net. I have a HG underquilt but haven't checked out their circadian hammock. Would you replace two of the bottles with the CNOC bag? Do they carry well while full? Thanks for watching!
@michaelchrisman4179
@michaelchrisman4179 Жыл бұрын
@@jason_in_the_woods It's probably best to have at least 2 bottles in case one gets dropped and springs a leak or gets dropped off a 300-foot cliff. Yes, that happened...And I don't think I would carry it full. I would just refill my water bottles in the morning and empty it and roll it up for when you need it again. I have carried the MSR dromedary bag full before with no issues, it is bombproof.
