I wish I could explain what is was like to march in 95 and see the scouts and those shows. Really was a special year for DCI. Anyone wonder where Crown came from? Check their Stormworks show in 95.

1995-97 scouts brass, or crown brass of this decade? both amazing/powerful, and seemed to dominated their times (brass-wise). I haven't seen crown live yet, so I dunno. any opinions out there from someone who's heard both live?
@TheBandMan
@TheBandMan 6 жыл бұрын
IMHO Crown has the kind of sound that Phantom USED to have a monopoly on. Clean/ Loud/ Perfection. Loud but not raw. Madison had the loud/ raw sound. Both good but different aesthetics.

A lot of people say that Bb horns are "better" than the G bugles because they're able to be played with more refinement. I personally say, "Yeah.....that's exactly what fans sitting in a football stadium want when they're sitting 40 yards away from a corps. Refinement. Who needs volume and power when you can have refinement?" (Of course, I'm being sarcastic.) If I wanted refinement I'd go see an orchestra play. You don't see fans jump up out of their seats any more the way they used to because shows just don't have the oomph and powerful sound that they used to. I miss that sound.

Specific years I didn't have the ability or time to include but would have: 89, 94, 01, 06, 07, 09." Also for what it's worth, this video is from 2011, when my videos could only be 10 minutes long. if I uploaded an updated version of this video, I'd just play as many complete Scouts shows back-to-back as I could ;)

'97 Scouts ending might be the greatest moment in drum corps history. I toured three summer with top world class corps and was actually there near the gate (with another corps) when '97 scouts were on. Never seen anything like it.

Can't argue with this video. The 90s Madison Scouts are why I got into DCI. Especially 95 and 96. I know they were a tad sloppy but still the writing and performers were champs in my mind. They gave me a reason to get out of my seat, regardless of scores. BTW I love the fact that despite DCI's nonsense about blocking out copyright tunes you dubbed it in lol. I will not buy anymore DVDs from them because of that.

@@UrbanReviews I agree, but remember the G-horns were still around until ~2001 for the Scouts. DCI was right to change but I do wish I could hear an old hornline again with the old bugles. Listening to Mike's sop solos in 96 you can hear the difference in the projection.

1995 .. WOW!!! The Scouts program that year was like a powerful force to be recon with and the way they brought the crowd to there feet, cheering for them,way before they can totally end there show, man.. I can imagine the emotion these guys must of felt while performing to look up and see the crowd all on there feet for them. I don't care what anyone says, The Scouts should've been champions in 1995. Even in 2014, nearly two decades later, I still get chills watching there '95 program. I only wish I could've been a part of the Scouts in 1995

I marched Phantom that year and got to see Madison warming up or coming out of the stadium after preforming (as we were on the way in, they were a few places behind us) always thought the HUGE drumline they marched in 95-96 was sick. I respect all the different styles in DCI, which is fading a bit as they try to diversify programming.

Big Fan of Madison since I saw them my first season in drum corps in 1974. They were the loudest,most powerful drum corps I had seen up close, It was a thrill watching them win DCI championship in '75. Wow, this year will be 40 years of watching this Corps......and they still crowd please.....Wish them 40 years more!

C'mon brother, you missed the intros to both 10-11, which were the best of those shows. Loved how you blotted out "NOT" available lol. The way I see it, if they can't let us hear the audio on a recording, why are they allowed to play it live? It's no different, DCI gets sales from both. I refuse to buy their DVDs for that reason.
