Winters chill ? what abilities does benefit from it ? i see only ice lance removes the stacks ? if i cast flurry then blizzard ? will the blizzard and like frozen orb do more dmg if i have 1 or 2 stacks on the target ?

hi there. New Frost mage here. I found that Ice nova,splits or go left or right and when main pack is on my front. Should I only cast this when there isnt mobs around me,8 yds? Already pulled some packs I should not pull.

Can you tell me why you didn't make your crit > 33.4%? I saw many top frost mages don't stack their crit to 33.4% anymore, and I don't understand why. It gives us 100% crit, doesn't it?

@@derrick8634 hiya! It does but the value you gain from crit after a certain rating becomes worse and worse. For example having 90% crit vs 100% isn’t as much lost value vs having an extra 5% vers in some scenarios. It all comes down to simming at the end of the day.

i quicksim my dps on raidbot and it shows that using SS i potentially can deal 1.08M dps. but i can only deal 500-700 ish on single target. and the damage distribution should've been frost splinter having 30-40% of total damage, but in my case its always ice lance who does the 40-60% of overall dmg while ice splinter on 4-5th place. is there anything im doing wrong on my rotation?

It would be hard for me to say what you are doing wrong without seeing a log of how you are using your abilities. For ST tips I would check out my Ray of Frost ST raid guide as it covers the roation and priority spells quite well and might give you a better understanding of how to play in ST.

Hiya! You only use GS if you can shatter it (Send it with Winters chill on the target) so if I am holding it I probably don't have a flurry charge or the mob is low enough where it will die before my GS is being cast. There could also be that I had GS avaiable but need to move and so I use ice lance instead.

My stats are roughly 20% crit, 33% haste, 22% master and 8% vers. Though this fluctuates as I get new gear and swap around some pieces here and there. The best way to find what's best for you is to sim your character! ^^

Hiya! I assume you mean the talent point "wintertide"? If so then swapping one point from wintertide to i.e Frozen touch can be a gain in ST which is useful for a dungeon where bosses are the hardest part or a dungeon with a lot of snaller packs with bigger mobs that need to die for example CoT.

What weakauras do you use? I've just started playing frost and struggling a bit. I've always used the default interface with bartender, but I feel like that won't cut it for mage anymore

You can find all of my WAs that I use in the WA video that I made, the only difference is that the tracker for splinterstorm is no longer needed after spellslinger got changed.

It serves two main purposes, so up to you when you use them, depending on what you need. 1, Pre pull is to remove threat (the mirror images take threat instead of you, so if you rip any from the tank you’re safe). And 2, they are also a 20% damage reduction. So using them as a defensive is the other time you would consider pressing the ability.

Apologies for the delayed answer, though Curry asnwered the questions pretty spot on. I try to use it as often as possible since with shifting power mirrors become a 1min 35-40s cd that lasts for 40s of that duration and gives you a 20% dmg reduction throughout (unless your mirrors get consumed). They are particularly good for chain pulling if you still have IV rolling as big GS tend to generate a lot of threat on packs that are getting pulled in late. Ideally you want to have them up as much as you can and pairing mirrors with an ice barrier is usually enough to survive most mechanics.

thanks for the great content! it's really helpful to analyze your decision making in high keys :) I had a question - at 6:12 you precast a glacial spike before sending in a flurry, and then ice lance twice to consume the WC stacks. That's fine, but right after, you send a naked flurry without a precast - is there a reason behind it? or is it just a small mistake?

Whenever I send a flurry without a precast it's simply me being lazy and wanting to send a GS sooner. Ideally you always want to precast into your flurries, one moment where you might not want to is it the mob is on low hp and you wont get both the GS and the precast in. Another scenario would be if you have to move and you're on 3-4 icicles and can there fore flurry whule moving into a GS or Flurry -> ice lance and then GS when you stop.

Hey, thanks for your gameplays. Could you maybe in future if you have time, also make a commentary over the runs or a quick guide for the dungeon as mage? (where to postion best, when to use cd´s, or other important things to look out as a mage). I was today in a +12 SV (to be honest my first +12) and died already 5 times befor and at first boss, absolotuley no idea what i did wrong. At one pack the tank said i was standing to close, but i needed to reset my comet storm and use dragon breath. And also he said i should use more defensives but i had them all on cd. I´m kind of new to mage as a main since tww. But such as tips gameplay wise are hard to find. And as a re beginner in wow it´s hard for me to understand all what happens in your runs like this. Just an idea from me. So just if you have time for something like that and want it to do. I understand you can not do everything from the comments.

Hiya! I appreciate the input and I would love to do guides that go more in-depth of each dungeon, however, as I am a busy university student I simply don't have the time right now but once I do it's for sure something I would look into making ^^ As for SV I would recommend that you play further back as you can outrange the slams that the big golem mobs do in the first area. To reset your comet storm I would use alter time, double shimmer into the pack and use my cone of cold and then alter back before the slam goes out to avoid taking damage. You can also play with supernova instead of dragon's breath as it has a 40yd range and is arguably stronger than dragon's breath anyways.

You don't anymore. This video was made before the changes as so we still played with the hero talent that made shifting power give us 8 splinters. We stopped using that when "signature spell" became a choice node with it.

For AoE crit is usually better but for ST or prio damage haste usually wins.

after watching your vids I feel like I should be using frostbolt a bit more... is there any reason why you wouldn't glacial spike+flurry if it's up outside of the aoe prio of frozen orb, blizzard etc?

when you run spellsinger lances have higher prio in aoe scenario than spike (with procs)

I would say it's probably me being lazy or too zoned in to notice it but it's hard to say without knowing at waht point in the key you are reffering to. If the mob is about to die or you need to move it could also be a bad time to use GS as the mob might die before you get the cast out or you screw yourself by having to cancel the cast due to movement.

This is how the orbs move on the flying boats in this dungeon, I think it's normal everywhere else.

I flurry when needing to move and I dont have any ice lance charges avaiable or I know that I will get enough icicles to generate a new GS with my flurry. Otherwise I wouldn't use flurry "raw" without a precast if I can avoid it but sometimes playing the key means you focus too much on not dying and doing mehcanics that you forget to do some of the basics of the rotation :P

I will probably give it a go at some point haha, it feels like it has a lot of add pad potential but I can only rteally see that working in lower keys where you can use comet storm once and then the pack is dead, I could be wrong though. When packs live longer I feel like having the orbs constantly going will net you more dmg.

I try to do it in most videos, at least for a few seconds but on some of the later ones I kinda forgot as we were discussing the key and I wasn't thinking of the recording. If you check some of my other videos Im sure you can find it. I use the same talent build about 95% of the time ^^

Hiya! this reply is probably very outdated as your comment was a few weeks ago (sadly only now got time to visit and reply to comments :/ ) but If it's still relevant I would say you just play the normal ST build from DF with ray of frost and either frozen touch or coldest snap depending on your role and what you're comfortable with. I have a video on my channel with a silken court mythic kill so I would check that out if I were you ^^

I haven't really played around much with it so hard for me to comment on it but it's looking rather okay now. In ST I think itll be up there with SS but for AoE it's still lacking. Though it's much less RNG than SS since orb proccs arent a thing for FF.

I haven't tried it yet and according to the latest things I read in the mage discord it seems to stil be behind in AoE and barely on par in ST which means you'll most liekly still run SS for maximum output. I wouldn't say its trolling to run FF though in either instance, at the end of the day you should paly what youll enjoy since that will proabably gain you the biggest dps increase if the sims are close.

I can understand that. There's a lot of RNG involved in current SS frost with how lucky we are with orb proccs during cds etc. Just stay grinding and I know you'll get there ^^

After the first pack after first boss would it not have made more sense to go straight to the third mini boss (with bloodlust as you had it up) rather than doing the first mini-boss then. Is there any reason you did that first mini-boss before?

I think in this case we just followed the route. Ideally we would've had more dmg i.e if we had an ench shammy and so we shouldve gotten to the first miniboss with still 1-2 min on the lust timer.

Hmm... have you tried simming your character to see if there are any potentail dps gain from swapping your gear around? Are you also using the correct consumables etc?

Hiya! We use Ice nova mostly to shatter GS when there are multiple freezable targets. It can also be used as a filler spell in AoE when you need to move and don't have any proccs or instant cast abilities that have higher priority.

Shattering refers to using a spell into a Winter's chill stack. What this does is that it makes the spell have a much higher crit chance - you can read about it under the "shatter" passive in the spellbook/wowhead. It is one of the most important things to know about when playing frost mage both in aoe and in ST as our damage heavily relies on utilizing it correctly.

Regarding your opening statement about your augmentation evokes not being sent down; wigs will actually never be sent down unless another player is already there. So you weren’t unlucky, that’s just how it’s coded.

Yes this is true, however they can be sent down all other casts besides the 1st one. Which is the only reason our augment plays mandate in this key so they can deal with the add when they get sent down.

No need to aplogies, we are here to learn and improve! :D shattering means casting a spell into a Winter's chill stack. You can read more about what it does exactly under the "shatter" passive in the spellbook and/or on wowhead. Basically it increases the crit chance of our spells that hit a mob with the winter's chill debuff and is one of the core elements to how frost mage works both with it's hero talents but also just the way it deals damage in general.
