The Chelsea is a heritage boot in its own right dating back to the mid to late 1800’s originally designed by Queen Victoria’s shoemaker as riding boot that one could also walk long distances in and the goring/elastic sides were put in because QV didn’t want lace up boots.

I ordered a pair from Blkbrd in India. Hopefully they turn out good, because I got them on blind faith since they're not something listed on their website (apparently they'll only make them for existing customers). Supposed to be getting them in the next few weeks!

These are beautiful, and their Instagram page has some knockout boots on it. Just wish they had a website with pricing and were easier to access. I imagine they can accommodate people like me with boat oars instead of feet as in a size 13 to 14 US. I do notice that some Indonesian and far East Craftsman charge more for larger sizes, which is something not seen in the states. Curious on the cost of these, will try to look for your original assessment. Thank you for the video!

How often do you condition your boots? It's not good to condition too regularly
@WeltedWare4 күн бұрын
Not often. Maybe once per year for boots requiring moderate wear. Accusing this process, I did this the first time in four years. Usually, it’s just a light conditioning once a year for boots getting regular wear. Otherwise it’s just some brushing.

I think you'd be very interested in cowboy boots. I got measured by a bespoke maker and they take a relaxed ankle measurement to make sure you have enough space to get the boot on but not too much space for a poor fit.

Definitely made in China. Otherwise they would possibly be sued for intellectual property theft. They have a Red Wing 1907 copy, literally called “Men’s 1907 Moc Toe”. What’s funny is they also sell a copy of the XBXS Miner boot called a “Lumberjack boot”. So it’s a copy of a copy. 😂

A few years back, he had disparaging words for the Indonesian bootmaking Community
@aksminster137512 күн бұрын
He also disparaged Chinese bootmakers. Additionally, he is not a bootmaker. He is a marketeer. Miyagi Kogyo makes all of his stuff and designed the lasts he uses. He is a total fraud and, by all accounts, a complete weapon.

@@aksminster1375 And yet, the boots are so beautifully crafted, shaped, and manufactured, and of impressive quality. I own an M-43 and this exact engineer in the natural CX, and they are among my favorite boots. Your words are IMHO overshooting ("fraud/weapon") and show more emotion than objectivity. I cannot remember reading anything claiming John Logren did everything on his own. Did he claim such thing?
@aksminster137511 күн бұрын
@@olgi2068 If you believe I am overshooting, fair enough. I think my words were entirely proportionate considering the fact the John Lofgren is not a bootmaker, is not transparent about the fact that he isn't a bootmaker (look at the brand name) and has the temerity to criticise actual bootmakers purely based on his beliefs on where things can be ethically manufactured. In my large collection, John Lofgren has no place and will never have a place. I wish you all the best in enjoying your JL in good health.
@olgi206811 күн бұрын
@@aksminster1375 Thanks for your reply and the best of health to you too! It sounds to me you are sour about the unnecessary and rude comments made by JL on Chinese and Indonesian bootmakers, which regarding most small brands from these countries I do NOT support at all. I disliked it too! But it doesn´t make things better to call someone a fraud/weapon based on, e.g., the point that JL is not a bootmaker but called his company JLB. What you do is different from what JL did with his hashtags in that it is more personal, but again IMHO as baseless und unnecessary. I hope you can see i am only trying to stay objective and less emotional. I think it is the only way to solve problems and show a better way of communication.

Willy's Boots from Philippines and Fortis Boots in Indonesia make their boots the same way for $500. You can get Chromexcel boots from Willy for that price, which is phenomenal and I can tell you the build quality is close to these if not as good. I don't have the Fortis yet so I can't speak to that. Both will up-charge for Italian horsebutt. You will be happy with Willy's Chromexcel engineers that's my recommendation.
@bobabo16 күн бұрын
You can get stock Wescos for under that. Even less if you're willing to look at their discounted boots (basically their seconds/returned boots). Their two models are the Boss and Mister Lou.

@@kennethblake3521 To be clear, I was replying to the original commenter. I'm not trying to argue against the value of Willy and Fortis. That said, ordering from Indonesian makers can be daunting, and depending on where you live, expensive if things don't fit right the first time.

I only say this bc I had a pair that I wore for 6 months straight without shoe trees and the boots smell terrible from daily wear. If I take them off indoors they stink up the entire room. 🤣.
