I’m building a 80’ track to circle my living room on a shelf. I just got the USA Train Dockside locomotive which is heavy (10 lbs). They also sold me the USA Trains 4amp transformer. I’ve tested it.. and the locomotive runs fine but it takes about 1/2 throttle to get it rolling. Once rolling.. it works great. Is this normal? Or did they sell me an underpowered transformer? I’m only planning to run one locomotive and pulling maybe 4-5 cars.

Hi .. Like your down to earth vids. Are you okay? No vids for a while. Are you still into trains? I was wondering if you have any used brass track for sale? Hope to see more vids ... Thanks Ben

I have the standard 1 amp power supply and find the engines cannot pull more than 3 cars up a small incline on the curve. 5 amp transformer will give engine alot more power? I only run 1 train. Lgb stainz engine. Also have a New Haven Diesel with 8 wheels and it barely has any power on the 1 amp transformer. Novice to all of this so any help will be appreciated

If you can get inside of the transformers. Sometimes the inside connection to the positive or negative port comes loose on the inside. Thats a quick fix with solder.

There are several things that work, and not sure which is he number 1 hing. They say do not use alcihol because the after effects attract dust and stuff. A friend of min eused to use denatured alcohol and Simple green half and half for American Flyer steel track. here is a youtube out there where someone tesed abou 11 different things and had 3 winners that were pretty close.

Hi! I have several of these! Great runners! If you are still not sure on those switches at the back, the smoke switch, from what I understand has to to be changed whenever the direction is changed-F-forward and R - reverse, and Center is off. The motor switch simply disables the motor if it is turned off. The lights simply can be turned off as well. Hope this helps, happy railroading.

Hey Backyard Railroader, living in the northeast - Boston area - myself I agree winters can be unpredictable and tough! So, we've been getting into 3D printing for our garden railroad too. We've started by making some things for our basement HO layout before expanding to the garden railroad. That building you printed looks great (and great tip on the calculator too)! Did you make it out of PLA? And, do you know yet how the 3D printed buildings hold up outside? Thanks!

I use pet-g it's good outside in the winter and hot sun with minimal warping.

Hey nice update from the Backyard Railroad. Cool. Lots of repair bits to do, not good. The bigger points you have put in have an easier curve I assume. That must make it easier for the larger engines and wagons to pass over and round. Such a load of little sticks to pick up. And the visit to the train show, nice. Cheers, Warren :)
