Nicely explained I must admit I like to check the sides on the motorway. Or use the right mirror on a nice long straight and go do I have a good view behind down the right and when you ain't allowed to use the bus lane and go fo I have a good view down the left to see bob or maybe me not that I would pass on the left if indicating if the car is moving or setting off . Especially if they are very close to the junction. Mirrors should be set before moving off the things I mentioned are just a final check where you go I'm happy with the view or I need to tweak the view

Communication with the other driver through signals is key . So before the junction pause to ask the question are you going straight or right. Right hold back if straight then use the space. Dont rush and give people time to decide what they want to do

Whats your thoughts on being over the solid white line but blocking the pedestrian area?
@DSMcheltenham
@DSMcheltenham 4 күн бұрын
@@grahamdavey1509 when turning right at a crossroads either with or without a yellow box - when going IN its a tiny bit different to the exit routine / so when going IN to the junction the pedestrian area is not functional as they have a red man illuminated so cram yourself in there with the other cars and get as many people in the crossroads turning right as possible but don’t stop on the cycle lane - you can do this because the pedestrians are not allowed to start walking due to the green cross code - they might cross but they are not officially allowed to by their own laws - when the light changes to red everyone that has got in to the crossroads must go and leave the area. So then if the pedestrians get their phase they can then walk with no car in the way! HOWEVER you must check on the other side whether there is enough space for you to fit without stopping on the pedestrian crossing area too much as if there is a traffic jam on the other side that never moves you will be in the way so try and leave a gap if you can. Cars behind will beep you if you leave too much room so gauge it very carefully and see if you can get across without disregarding the pedestrian area - the highway codes picture has changed in the latest addition to show we must leave the exit part of the crossroads pedestrian crossing clear - but leaving too much space can cause road rage and beeping from the car behind so gauge the situation very carefully for your unique exit and try and leave space for pedestrians as they may be disabled with or without wheelchairs

do you need to signal on spiral roundabouts or is it misleading as people may think you’re changing lanes?
@DSMcheltenham
@DSMcheltenham 6 күн бұрын
@@zoeveal898 on your driving test if you don’t signal on entering if you are turning left and right you will fail. If you are going straight on your don’t need to use a signal - if the entire roundabout is governed by traffic lights it is less important to signal out as it doesn’t help the oncoming person enter but i teach it as it is a good idea to explain where you are going to help the people behind as you exit. If you forget the EXIT signal at a traffic light controlled roundabout you’ll get away with it - BUT but but, driving is habit forming in its habitual nature so i strongly recommend signalling out because if you forget it at a standard roundabout without traffic lights you WILL fail if there was someone to communicate with who is coming into the roundabout

Head up look far forward and you have better balance. When you walk through a busy airport with busy people coming from all directions you keep your head raised and able to find a path through the koas without crashing into people as you become aware of your surroundings. So when driving imagine walking down the road and simply look where you would look if walking, you don't look down at your feet when walking, you look into the distance. It's exactly the same when driving

when queueing in traffic, should you always try to keep the entrance and exit of side roads free and not block them? or do you only need to make sure the entrance is free for people in the oncoming lane to use?
@DSMcheltenham
@DSMcheltenham 8 күн бұрын
@@zoeveal898 on test if you block a road - in anyway when you could have left it clear because there was an opportunity you can fail for being in the way of traffic that is trying to get on with their journeys. When you think of situations, reverse them and think about being the other person. How you would feel if you were blocked to enter or exit a road when the other driver on the road could have left the area clear if in traffic. It lowers road rage to keep roads clear. If there is a yellow box it is against the law to be in it if your exit road is blocked. You can only stop in it if your exit is clear and the only thing that is stopping you from turning is the oncoming traffic - if you stop infront of a road on your test and no one comes you will get away with it - but I’m afraid if someone does come and you are in the way of them entering or exiting you will fail. - pretend there is a ‘keep clear’ out the roads when in traffic in and out

I’m from Australia and I don’t think we have any ‘minimum speed’ signs across any of our states. I understand that maintaining a certain speed is needed for adequate traffic flow/preventing congestion but what scenarios exist where the blue sign is used instead of the red sign? And does it have a cap? If it’s a blue 40 sign, does that mean you can do ANY speed limit above 40km/h (including 80 or 100km/h)?
@DSMcheltenham
@DSMcheltenham 8 күн бұрын
@@AmyM-yg1ue In the UK, minimum speed limit signs are blue circular signs with a white number in the center, indicating that vehicles must maintain a minimum speed in miles per hour. These signs are often used in places where slow travel could be hazardous, such as tunnels or motorways. The purpose of minimum speed limits is to increase road safety by keeping vehicles moving. However, driving too slowly can also be dangerous to other drivers. The end of a minimum speed limit is indicated by a red, diagonal line through the sign. There are some exceptions to minimum speed limits, such as being stuck in traffic or having to brake for a hazard

@@zoeveal898 watch my video on the 12oclock theory. Most of the time if the exit is after 12o clock you signal to the right meaning there is multiple right turns at a roundabout (this doesn’t work if there is a primary route on a very big roundabout near to 1 o’clock as you wouldn’t signal for that one IF it’s been designed as a straight on) but there would potentially be multiple right turns after that - watch my video to make it clearer

Practice makes the biggest difference. If you csn weekly lessons and Practice daily if possible it then means at the next lesson you are ready for the next lesson and don't need to repeat the last lesson and can move forward with learning. My instructor got discussed with my mum what I had being doing on lessons and what to work on. Drive in areas you don't know if you can do that and you don't need help to do other than direction you're ready. First lesson I asked when I could do my test and my instructor said let's go into the city and see how you get on the bigger roads . Right you're will be ready after 6 lessons we'll get you booked in . I was always taught mske the examiner feel safe don't be too confident and take risks. You've to show you are ready to be on your own and are a safe driver and will fit in with the rest of the drivers.

If you are the lead car you are king or queen and you are in charge of the people behind and they follow your lead. Believe it or not you are actually thier eyes of people behind as not everyone will be able to see the cyclists. In a long queue the second car probably can but for 4 and more back the cyclist can get hidden or horse rider etc . By slowing down you are letting the following cars know thier is a hazard up in front. Then when passing I'd put a signal on as long as no junctions to your right or can cause confusion as it then lets the behind know they need to also pull out for a hazard on the left especially when no junctions on the right. I know you don't need to signal bit the reason I say it's useful to following cars . The first car passes nice and wide then the 2nd passes at a meter as they don't seem aware as they have only have looked at the car in front not what is way up the road past them to anticipate what needs to be done. Then the 3rd car goes that was a bit close and they also go wide.
@wrightwoodwork
@wrightwoodwork 12 күн бұрын
The biggest mistake people when overtaking cyclist is they simply don't look at the space available but they look too much at the cyclist which causes them to get close . Rarther than think I want the space to be as big as possible which will naturally put you on the opposite side of the road giving you over 1.5m. Follow at 2 seconds the same as a car not 1.5 as you said . Ask yourself before overtaking would you overtake a cat if the answer is no then don't overtake. If you watch reg local he had a good piece on overtaking cyclist it was simply prepare to follow then plan the overtake which stops the rushed overtake . Narrow country road 1.5m is impossible and you need to let the cyclist dictate when the overtake happens. If they know it's going to happen it ain't as scary especially if it's close. Like yesterday on the bike I was over a little narrow country road single lane so the 1.5 rule goes out of the window. The people that catch us up have to follow until I can see a place that I feel safe to be overtaken it will still be less than 1.5m but if you come past slowly it's fine , don't rush past as this causes turbulent air that causes the cyclist to get tucked into your wheels that why these distance exists plus if they need to swerve out for a pot hole thier is room. So yesterday before coming to a very steep hill I'm assessing who I might meet coming down and behind . Anyone coming down I want them to clear and people behind I want them to be in front as a car was behind I simply found a safe place to pull in a let them past as on the climb I won't pull in as I will never get going it's something like 20% . Then a bit later on could see a car coming in the distance so I pulled in before I could see them as I knew they had to be just coming back into view. Then a bit later on thier was a big massive puddle which I'm not going through for anyone as I knew a car was approaching from behind planning to overtake I actually looked back over my shoulder moved position on the road and hand signal to say I'm using the right lane to go around the flood give the driver plenty of warning the pull back the left as soon as possible and once safe stick my hand up to say thanks.
