This video is a lil old but I need some help. Just replaced several hoses and belts and expansion tank on daughter's car. I can let it idle for 15-20 mins and drive it a few miles and does not over heat. I turn car off for a few minutes and drive it, it over heats...any clue what may be the issue?

The first thing I would think would be the radiator could be clogged not allowing airflow across it to cool. The other thing is the fan cooling fan maybe failed. Edit: You should be able to run the engine with the tank cap off and see coolant flowing, if the coolant is stagnant, the water pump may not be pumping. (You would need to bleed again after that inspection)

Try cutting them flush and center punch with heat on the bolt. Not the diamond plate

You can also do a load test like that with a Tesla, but it has to be the old-school kind. The LED kind will not pull enough amps to test the circuit.

That’s what I was thinking too. I need to get underneath it and see what’s going on. The knob looks like 4x4 knob, but like I said it definitely is not 4x4 and it’s on the wrong side. Someone could have put that knob on there off of a tractor or something.

@@eyeballroombama yep old handle someone had laying around. Farm use trucks would see some of the weirdest combos like your gm one wire alt. That was a common swap back in the day because every part store and most tractors could use them in place of the stock manufacturer because most people back then worked with what they had and not with what they could get.pto more than likely for a flatbed that could dump or a plow set up check front of frame for extra support of it was a plow the old farmer had to beef up from end with extra plating and if it was a dump bed more than likely you would only be left with the stick as for everything else would of been hacked off for another truck in better shape. Or bed was just complete shit and not salvageable so they put a bed on it to still have some use

I just went through something similar, bought a duralast radiator at autozone, had to tape the head of the plug to seal from leaking. Also radiator is 2mm too wide, etc. Getting nessins from fcp next week, hope it's much better. Also got an extra adjustable radiator plug, jic.

Thanks for sharing buddy, I truly feel you pain in regards to the coolant system of this car. Best advice is to get it done properly, empty all the air bubbles just as you did and keep monitoring it every now and then

Hey, so I bled the system I believe properly with heat on max and fan speed to 1 (my car is the cheap AC unit with 1-4 fan speed dials.) I then just saw coolant dripping out of the bleed holes and so started the car engine and started to screw down the bleed caps. Whilst doing this, I was draining excess coolant so that it meets in the middle between the 2 round marks. The coolant was now quite warm. I went for a drive, seemed fine, heating working and coolant temp in middle. I parked the car, waited longer than 4hrs then checked my Coolant expansion tank reservoir and the stick was right at the bottom. Did i make a mistake or just the coolant became cold and needs refill?

Wait only blue ? i tried telling my machinic people this and they told me its just a stupid thing they say to make you buy their branding and the only difference is its dye lol :b, the blue was cheaper where i was for some reason.
@eyeballroombama
@eyeballroombama Жыл бұрын
I would get new mechanic people, dyes may be present. Look up OAT and HOAT coolants. Next time you are in the parts store read the backs of the containers and you will see they have different additives. There is a lot more too it than “branding”

My e46 had been driven with purple G12 previously. Then I put bmw blue just to make sure. Any kind of coolant is coolant, it's a 20 year old car, don't sweat it. Americans drive it with some kind of green coolant, eu - purple. Only difference is that 1.5L of bmw blue is 13€ whreas 5L of g12 purple is 18€, speaking for EU.

It dedends on the additives mainly. You can safely run any color coolant so long as it has the same chemical makeup as the OEM BMW coolant. Since the BMW blocks are aluminum there should be (apparently) no nitrites, nitrates, or another thing that I am forgetting. I have run OEM blue in one E46 since it was new and the other green. They look the absolute same on the inside, just the green one doesn't show leaks as well as the blue does. I would reccommend the blue for this sheer reason- You can see a leak a mile away with it.
@eyeballroombama
@eyeballroombama Жыл бұрын
@@ThatOneCatNyx The additive packet is what makes the coolant HOAT, OAT, or IAT. You are correct, you really can’t go by the color, there is an Asian blend that is blue that has different additives than the European blue. Old IAT coolant requires more frequent drain Intervals than HOAT or OAT it wasn’t designed for systems that were half plastic / half aluminum. I am a firm believer in using what is recommended by the manufacturer, due to the fact they engineered the system to work with xyz coolant for a reason, my opinion probably comes from all my years working at a dealership and now working for a automotive manufacturer. The comment I made in this video I was just clowning old people that want to put green coolant in everything.

I was doing some research and I believe the engine in the white truck @7:52 is a 361or 391 FT engine? I need to look next time I go down. It looks like 366 is a GM engine, with about the same uses. Please correct this if I am wrong, but I’m pretty sure I am right.
