Number 8 has no name? I learned this in the late 1970s as hasso wakigamae.

Hasso Waki Gamae are the two starting postures. I use the same name as well.

Not sure if this account is still active, but what's the name of tori's technique at 0:35 ? I tried googling but got everything from Sankyu to Kote Hineri!

We are affliated to the Japan Aikido Association ITAF and the British Aikido Association WSAF. Honestly the politics of the JAA & SAF is something that I don't get involved with as they both have some great training methods that we use. My personal roots (Shaun Hoddy) are from Dr Ah Lee JAA, whereas Andy Wisbey our assistant senior instructor roots are Shodokan being taught by Phi Newcombe. If you are interested in what we do you can check us out at www.essex-aikido.org

Thanks Sensei, I follow him on both social networks, I am interested in learning tomiki aikido, next year I will visit Japan to get closer to the school in waseda, I practiced 12 years aikikai but the functionality of the randori in tomiki surprised me quite a bit

Hello Steve, nice to hear from you. I hope that all is well. I can't believe that you live in Japan and not practice any Budo. I was looking at coming over next year, but not sure with Covid and the re-scheduled Olympics. I guess prices with be sky high.

I underestimated this Aikido until I (184cm,68kg,bodybuilder) was lessoned in March in front of a supermarket. There was a brawl concerning a trolley with an about 40 year old woman with thick ugly specs, physically much weaker than me.Since she only was 150 cm, she was an easy push and I pressed her 2 meters back and downwards with my hands on her shoulders. Then she enclosed my right wrist, a short aching, she went aside and I tumbled to the ground on the back, and that in my full black leathers. On the ground, I realised a sprain in my right arm making it useless for further combat. The specs lady saw my surprise and stretched from right to left over my chest, snatching for my left arm poising it in an awkward and helpless position I never saw before. I was completely under shock and could no longer move none of my four limbs. I flushed and even fainted.I only remember some passers by in the audience saying "Look at the arm of that lady, look at the arm of that girl, you ever saw this before?".After some minutes,we were finally seperated by the security and the specs lady said:"Guess you never exspected a dwarf to know the Judo, hunny hulk".But I doubt now whether it is allowed to apply Jukido in public.

Nice in kata, which is your thing, but not in randori Shaun... Much more difficult against the real thing unless of course, one adapts.... Regards....

Nice video, If you want more on Taiho Jutsu the United Kingdom Taiho Jutsu Association under the Guidance of Hanshi McCormack and Kyoshi Lane have launched the UKTJA Coaches and Instructors Award. www.uktja.co.uk [email protected]. . Hanshi McCormack was a police PTI and self defence instructor and both Hanshi McCormack and Kyoshi Lane were former Students of Soke Eustace who introduced the Taiho-Jutsu art into the uk in the 70's.

the second part was much better in my opinion. The first part lacked timing, speed, kuzushi and power. Gambare!

The practice of Aikido is about personal choice, we run a successful club with members and instructors who enjoy their practice. I hope you have found something that fulfills what you personally want out of a pastime.
