alpine seeds say they prefer 1/8th an inch deep, and all references i see for planting say to sew on top and dont cover with soil.... how did yours turn out? that was alot of soil you piled on top...

Thought you were going to show planting alliums in the borders and bed…thus you YT title. Was hoping to see what other types of plants you would be planting the bulbs around. Did you do a video on what they looked like when they bloomed in the pots?
@OriginalGardening
@OriginalGardening 11 ай бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the comment. The planting is beds and borders method is demonstrated from 5 minutes 20 seconds on the video. I had to demonstrate it in a pot due to ground conditions at time of filming, but hopefully we can shoot a video planting in boarders this year which sounds exactly what you are looking for. I’m sorry I couldn’t find any images or videos of these pots when they were in flower but this is where I got the bulbs from and they have great photos: tidd.ly/464E5xo

I’ve found Bergenia to be extremely hardy. I’ve propagated mine many times, just by breaking off sections with a decent stem and sticking them into the ground…. nothing else required! 😂 I’ve done this quite a few times, sticking long stalks into other areas of my garden; I’ve done exactly the same in my mum’s garden and also my son’s garden too. They don’t need existing roots, as they’re so vigorous. They all rooted themselves 100% successfully👍🏼 I never use fertiliser on them either. Bergenias are so easy to grow as they look after themselves, apart from a bit of minor pruning for to tidy up aesthetics.

Good instructional video. Well done for telling people that it’s not safe to suck up leaves if they are on gravelled areas as powerful vacs can suck up the gravel which will break the plastic impeller blades and ruin the tool.

what other blower/vacs have you tested and compared with? iv got my eye on a few of them this FLYMO one the VONHAUS and the HYUNDAI one but not sure what one to pick
@OriginalGardening
@OriginalGardening Жыл бұрын
I did this review about 10 months ago, but the products available have not changed much. All the main blowers of this power and price range a similar in performance. You mentioned the Hyundai, most blower/vacs use a similar design to the Hyundai HYBV3000E, I did not test the Hyundai but tested 4 others with similar blower functions, they worked well but the vacuum settings were not as good as the flymo. The only better blower/vacs I found were petrol powered. The main reason I preferred this model over others in its price range was: the air channel is different for blower and vac settings, this means the vac works better then others corded blower/vacs. This separate vac set up that makes it the best (in my opinion) it also creates a downside that you need to change the configuration from blower and make sure it is locked in place correctly. I think the flymo is the only model that has this separate vac configuration, if that helps with comparison?

@@worksavetravelrepeat6072 no I got the flymo 3000 from homebase on deal for £47. The blower works really well quite powerful to be honest and the vacuum is pretty decent aswell got clogged up a couple of times but just turn it off shake it all out and turn back on and your good to go. overall i was really impressed with it the only thing that disappointed me was i read somewhere it had a metal fan blade thing but it has a plastic one. mabye I was given the wrong information but I'm not worried it seems strong enough. hope you enjoy your leaf blowing 👍😂

@OriginalGardening
@OriginalGardening Жыл бұрын
Hi Elaine, for Dublin early autumn is best for planting spring flowering crocus; the earliest would be from around that September to the latest December. The best time late September or October if the weather has turned colder, if summers warm temperatures stay late I would hold off until late October early November (but buy them now so you don’t miss out and store them as suggested on the packet).

Good video. ......I have one of these Flymo PowerVac 3000, I found that the blower was great in a large area, but if you are in a confined space, like a small yard or garden with lots of containers, the blower will actually blow your flower pots over and damage plants, I wish the vac would suck as strongly as the blower blows!
@OriginalGardening
@OriginalGardening 2 жыл бұрын
Good points it is very powerful on blow, I sometimes use a light lawn rake to help tease leaves up when using the vac setting.

Thank you very much. At last, I’ve got the wretched thing to start. Much better than the manufacturer’s instructions. I still prefer the machine’s ancestor from twenty plus years ago. Much lighter and simpler operation - button forward to blow, backward to vac. Only bought the new one because I couldn’t get a replacement debris bag for the old one.

I’m happy this helped 😀 I had an old model also that was much simpler, but I do think this is still the best corded machine in its price range.

I would say more so when using the vac then the blower setting. To compare to something similar, it is maybe a bit loader than an electric mower, but not as load as a petrol mower. I would advise hearing protection, but you shouldn’t get complaints from the neighbours.

How often do bergenias flower and after I propragate, are they likely to flower the same year again? I seem to remember when we moved in last July these were still flowering. Am I imagining it?
@OriginalGardening
@OriginalGardening 2 жыл бұрын
I am speaking from a perspective from gardening in the southeast of England, so flowering will differ depending on your region or zone. I normally get a proper flowering every year on newly divided plants in spring if I divide in autumn (fall). If I divide in spring I get flowering sometimes in the autumn/winter but definitely in the spring. I am finding some years they are in bud and flower almost every month! If they are in plant beds and boarders, I don’t have a set rule but I like to divide every two to three years. In pots and containers I like to divide every year or two years. If you have a regular issue with Vine Weevil you may want to do every year in autumn to remove the larvae eating the roots.
