I couldn't claim the schmaltz is heart healthy either. But you don't have to use much of it to get a desired product.

Great video! If you really want to do that pan instead of mason jars, here’s a tip from a baker: Fill up the pan the halfway. then put the pan onto the rack. Then pour the rest of the milk into the pan. So you don’t have to move it around very much. Just push the pan in.

Calories are not the problem. Balance is. Take all that excess fat and make a roux with flour and then add wine to it to make a tangy rich gravy. No waste.

Can’t wait to try it. If I can make my own colloidal oatmeal I will be using it for every bath I take. And I will be careful about how slippery the tub can get. My personal tip: It’s great also for soaking feet with a few drops of tea tree oil 3-4 times a week to chase away those hungry foot fungus that want to eat one’s toe nails and everything else.

Wow!!! Thank you so much for this. I keep seeing "colloidal oats" in things and thought it was a technical process or something, not just literally powdered oats 😂😂😂. Now I can make my own products easier and not pay so much for soothing lotions!!

When you mix a solid into a liquid, you can get a solution (where the solid dissolves in the liquid, like salt in water) or you can get a suspension (where small particles of the solid float around in the liquid). Normally, in a suspension, the particles are large enough that most of them settle out, but in a colloid, they are small enough that they stay suspended. You see a similar thing with mixing two liquids. If they are miscible (ie, they dissolve in one another, like water and alcohol), you get a solution. If they are not, like oil and water, normally they will separate. This is why you need to shake your vinaigrette before using. However, if the droplets of oil are small enough, they stay suspended. A good example of this is homogenized milk, where the fat droplets are so small that they don't separate out. tl;dr: Colloidal oatmeal is simply oatmeal ground fine enough to stay suspended in water. It's not a magic substance that needs particularly fancy processing or anything. However, if your blender is crap (like mine), you'll need to do smaller batches.

This came out delicious. I made it a second time, tripling the recipe, as a starter for this past Easter dinner, and the increase in flour made it a little thicker (which we liked), I also added some fresh black pepper and a sprig of rosemary (which I had a ton of because Lamb was the main course). I added it for just a few minutes before removing it to serve up the soup. It added a nice herbal aromatic touch that complimented the mushrooms beautifully. The soup tasted fantastic, and everyone loved it and asked for the recipe. So fast and easy; it was a huge time saver from the normal holiday starters I make, and it makes an elegant presentation, especially with the sliced mushroom on top. Thank you for this fantastic recipe.

Nice to see it uncomplicated. I use whole milk powder, monk fruit powdered sugar, for sugar. Sometimes add cinnamon or instant coffee for a change or use brewed coffee in place of water. He has the basics down great! Dont buy that junk in the package!
