eBay is not a business anymore; it is becoming a side gig for income. Just like DoorDash, Uber, and day labor, it is not as important anymore like it was back in the day. eBay is really all up to you and the effort you put in. Chasing the deals, where I live, is too competitive; I cannot find something to flip because all the resellers on social media are ruining it for all of us. Good luck everyone if you have any other real side hustles that are working for you let me know! I do ebay doordash Uber let me know what you do to make it for a side hustle lets start a chat

Whats up David, new subscriber here, seen your vids years ago but your were doing electronics, i'm a clothing reseller, so now your videos are very relevant, love how you are keeping it real, also how you ride or die for ebay is so damn refreshing bro, all i see is youtubers bitching weekly on youtube about how ebay sucks... me & my wife are Mexican, we are in L.A. and we are sticking to ebay and ebay only! We consistently list 10 clothing items a day, as we a very limited on space, and we source once a week and pay-up at the Goodwills, cog out here is about $7 per item average, to sell for $30...thanks for all your videos, love how your Pops is an OG seller as well, it runs in the blood & in the family. Keep up the great videos. Keep fighting the good fight, looking forward to your million dollar journey. Jon

At the end of March last year, eBay changed their algorithm. This change throttled traffic in order to herd sellers to pay promoted listings (if they weren't) or to pay more than what they had been. This is basically free money for eBay as it's payment for placement versus actual advertising which eBay discontinued with Google at the same time as their algorithm change. This resulted in my losing 50% of my traffic in one day. I'm down to 30% of what I had been making despite 50% more inventory. As an aside, I've been on eBay for 25 years, have a 100% positive feedback on 15,000+ items sold, and a 99.5%+ listing quality. I've had one return in 25 years from a guy who ordered something he didn't have the ability to play, despite saying he did three times. It has nothing to do with my items, as I've added a second store that has completely different items. One thing I will say about that is that new accounts that are around 3 years or younger have better traffic than older ones, most likely due to the coding that's been changed over the past four years. My loss of traffic in one day has been mirrored by a huge number of people and we've been doing a lot of research into the issues. It's not us, it is whatever eBay is doing and refusing to explain. There are things that eBay no longer itemizes when they give their quarterly report, as they are hiding information from stock holders and potential investors. It goes pretty deep. As for jumping ship, I use eBay to advertise and move customers over to other mirror platforms in which I can give customers bigger discounts due to lesser fees. Not sure how long you've been on eBay, but those of us who have been around for a very long time have seen the changes and have the data to back up claims we're making. You may want to look into what eBay is doing as it's not competition (eBay is actually losing sellers, not gaining them, which can be found in eBay's own numbers). eBay has gone from 164 million users to around 130 million users since Jamie Ioannone took over on April 27th, 2020. They've lost a few million sellers during that time as well. During covid, eBay didn't gain sellers based on the numbers they have provided, but lost them. The fees, burying items which aren't promoted at a certain rate, etc are the things killing ebay. eBay doesn't really care about your margins, as long as you're paying a certain rate. And even then, they're not giving us the traffic we had prior to April 1st of last year. I have 100% positive feedback on every platform I deal on, which is 6 at this time. I'm not someone who has no clue how to change, as I'm constantly changing, improving. I've owned a brick and mortar and help fantasy artists with marketing. I've worked on consumer affairs as a professional writer, among other things. This is definitely an eBay thing, as the downturns happen right after updates and affect a huge number of people across the platform. What's bad for us as sellers is that the hiding of great items because they refuse to pay high extortion fees, er, promoted fees, is that the customers just go somewhere else, not being able to find what they're looking for. Part of my advertising in each item I sell on eBay is advertising with QR codes and links the customer can use to buy elsewhere from me. Oh, and eBay caps sales. Check your traffic and sales numbers, even if you're adding inventory. They'll be relatively the same all day long, whereas when I owned a brick and mortar, my sales would be up and down. They used to be up and down on eBay as well before the coding changes and throttling. If you understand this and see it happening to you, then it'll help you make the decision to diversify. Anyway, good luck with your business. I see things a little differently due to the data I've collected over 25 years and the people I've worked with to prove the data. Wish eBay would fire Jamie so we could get back to making money for us and eBay, but that won't happen until he's gone. To admit that what he's doing is a cluster would be to admit he's wasted 4 years of eBay's time and set them back. Cross listing companies are having record years (because of eBay's wretchedness) and other platforms are gaining new accounts at record pace (again, due to eBay). Meanwhile, eBay is going backwards based on their own stats. Take care.

I just focus on listing, good photos, good description, competitive price & good customer service. I been with eBay since 2001 & year to date my sales currently are up 10% from prior year. The profit starts with the purchase price & shipping cost. My advice focus on listing then the sales will follow.

I quit eBay last month and my mental health has improved 100%. Reselling is not for everyone. Those who are willing to put in the effort, time, and energy into sourcing highly sought after items, listing regularly, and frequently tweaking listings to get the algorithm to pay attention to you--I admire your passion and tenacity. For me personally, I'm not cut out for it. I had to be honest with myself that reselling on eBay was nothing more than a hobby. Luckily I have another job which I enjoy and makes good money with much less stress. Good luck to you in all your endeavors!

I did whatnot shows for a while, it's a good platform if you are ok with a SLOW pace of income as while you wait to grow a community which can take you months. Keep in mind with whatnot is it has changed since I joined 2 years ago, there is so much competition now trying to keep people in your shows, giveaways, $1 start shows & selling items really low. I agree with you Ebay is my better option. Listing just simply works better for me.

Reality is the online environment is changing and most the marketplace type sellers have so much tunnel vision they blame eBay etc. Nothing to do with eBay but it's all multifaceted. eBay has been bleeding buyers not only to other venues small like WhatNot and in huge fashion to Amazon AND OTHERS. Its the online retailer environment thats sucking in the buying traffic and they've not been quiet about it if people care read real financial news and news from the various supply chain associations and representatives. Retailers were caught with their pants down when the Covid restrictions hit and that's no longer the case. Online sales were a side hustle for many medium and large retailers as well as supply chain, thats changed. Online retailer traffic is up 10% every year since the alleged end of Covid, that's 40% in four years and the associations have said of that 40% traffic increase their online sales are up some 30%. They are evolving their models. The top 25-35% "Indi" sellers at Amazon or eBay have and are always authorized supply chain usually in delisted merchandise. Now the online retailers are working delisted merchandise able to offer discounts up to 80% all year round. They dont do the fulfillment, its subcontract affording them tax benefit and a bit of revenue per delisted item sale. But the buyer traffic and return traffic they enjoy is sucking the life out of places like eBay as eBay sellers tend want get as much as money as they can inflating prices often in huge fashion. That turns consumers off and they've finite money, you dont see Amazon or Walmart struggling for revenues do you? This is because their marketplaces have been created to LITERALLY DRIVE lowest prices AND CONSUMER CONFIDENCE. ATOP ALL THIS there are regulatory matters appearing all over the globe towards "Indi" Seller marketplaces due to counterfeits, fraud, stolen merch resold and supply chain rights such as trademarks, warranties, retail arbitrage and more. The USA is facing The Shop Safe Act for example which places all onus on sellers to prove legitimacy and PROVIDENCE of items sold whereby lawfirms representing supply chain can make claim. No Onus falls upon them nor do they need provide any mechanisms whatsoever supporting their claims as it is their right to question ANY PRODUCT with their brand. This is whats coming to the USA, its stalled in Congress now but regulations and restrictions ARE COMING GUARANTEED. The Shop Safe Act began when Mr. Trump a businessman invited CEO's, CFO's, lobbyists and select economic legislators into the Whitehouse to discuss problems in supply chain (imports, manufacture, distribution and retail). Everything from counterfeits to the FTC/FBI reporting of billions annually of consumers defrauded, retail arbitrage and more came to bare. With that came the first rendition of The Shop Safe Act if it were not for Covid we'd all been out of business already. That legislation ONLY TARGETS online open marketplaces such as eBay, Mercari, WhatNot etc SPECIFICALLY and its first rendition sought to fine any of these points of sale for unauthorized use of ANY TRADEMARK or TRADEMARK TERMINOLOGY IN ANY LISTING FOR ANY UNAUTHORIZED RESELLER. Every lawfirm in the USA said its the end of eBay and others. Its went through four permutations since but is still devastating to sellers no matter how one views it. Trump is no fan of what "Cottage Sellers" do, this is a fact and by his hand he made it a bi-partisan issue opening the door that for the last 30+ years has been closed. Legislators have no choice now except to regulate what we as seller do as none of them want become enemy of unified supply chain, thats that. So in closing eBay MUST evolve as MUST the other marketplaces which is EXACTLY why they are trying different things such as zero seller fees to ATTRACT AS MUCH AUTHORIZED RESELLERS AS THEY CAN MUSTER AS EVERYONE ELSE IS ALL DONE AND JUST DOESNT KNOW IT YET.

This isn’t true eBay’s fees and shipping is getting out of control I have a 15 year old account and people are cutting each other throats on price and it’s constantly a race to the bottom on items. Don’t get me wrong I made more money on eBay than anywhere in my life but the margins are getting slimmer and slimmer. Whatnot isn’t the answer either. Crazy that items bring 3x more on Amazon sometimes but won’t bring the money on eBay weird to me. If people would stop racing to the bottom bottom lines would be better
