Great analysis and illustration! I would say one of the differences would be the lines of the anatomy (in Portuguese, it is gesto I don't think there is a translation), the original has long limbs and a torso even with the lack of curves they are not stiff or completely straight, I guess because u follow more a correct form a anatomy u lost some of the light affect they have, also the chest of your figure looks a bit to broad compare to the rest of the body
@cactussey7 күн бұрын
"gesto" could be translated as gesture! another Portuguese speaker here :)
@mayelenym6 күн бұрын
Thank you! Yeah the longer limbs/bodies is something that stood out to me and since its different from how I draw bodies often - more focusing on the muscles and not the gesture - I can see how this is different! I love the graceful elegant bodies in pans art, and focusing more on the gesture and curves with the longer limbs is what I could do to also incorporate this in some way

Hey, mayelenym! I've been a long term watcher of your vids, been a fan of especially the art style analysis videos. While they aren't PERFECT replications of the styles you study and had places that could improve, I hadn't been much of a commenter enough to type out my thoughts (including my appreciation for your process of these vids, I admire them heavily) so I've not commented on your vids before. (I tbh don't comment that much on ANY vid, on any platform so yeah). But, I decided to comment here because, wow- Your boldness in shading here seems to deviate from the usual type of shading you do, and the color choosing also aided in capturing the vibe you were most probably going for. Also please don't take the next part offensively, it's not meant to be so. It's my reply to you asking the viewers' thoughts on your vid's process. Alright so one thing I've always noticed in your art is the stiffness. While it's not always present in the POSES you draw, it's commonly present in the heads you draw. It just seems to lack the... 3D-ness compared to the rest of the body (I'm referring not only to the drawing in this vid) and the facial features kind of add to that. Don't get me wrong tho, the facial features individually look quite okay but on the face it seems like the curve of the eye line is always straight and lacks what feels like the eye socket (basically the form of the subject). Also, the head shape, the top part, the cranium part you commonly draw seems less... curved, if that makes sense... Basically my overall suggestion for the head area is a skull study or if thats boring, a facial FORM study (understanding the protruding and dipping parts). That is my main suggestion and commentary on your art as a whole, and believe me, it's meant with love and admiration, truly... Because initiating to not only do art studies but also sharing your process online, that's great. I do hope my phrasing doesn't seem rude, I... I just, wanted to comment, in case you would actually feel better by knowing you have an engaging audience. I hope I conveyed that. ^^ And next, as for the questions you ask at the end of the vid, in the Before and after ones, yes, the before one's proportions do seem a little off, mainly the waist twist, the middle line doesn't twist around as smoothly as it should, but, the idea you had was really good in terms of flow of the picture. The belt area thing is a little too much to the right side of the picture and the middle of the belt doesn't line up with the now-curved (due to the waist twisting) centre line of the body. Also one thing I noticed about the artist you studied, they sometimes blur (?) Some parts of the picture (example> 0:50 , the torso). And IDK if the slight blurred look on the waist of your character was intentional or not on your part in your drawing ('before' one) but it did add some interest, atleast in my opinion. And as for the 'after' ones, (the ones in which you changed the poses), they look better in terms of proportions :D FYI-!!! While I love to keenly study artists I like, and like to point out to every detail, I haven't seen the artist you studied in this vid before, so, I won't comment too much on what to do in order to improve in making your style study more like the artist's style. I just mentioned the blurring thing as some peculiar thing, perhaps the artist doesn't do it often and I just happened to notice it specifically. Extra: I like 2b, 4b, and 4a, overall. I uh hope whoever sees this comment isn't uncomfortable with long paragraphs. 😅

Hey, thank you for writing all of this!♡ Receiving feedback like this is invaluable and you wrote down your thoughts in a very kind and helpful way which means a lot! I totally get the aspect with the head. I’ve focused a lot on studying anatomy and poses in the past - while studying faces and determining a good way to structure them is something I could definitely do more of. You pointing this out helps a lot as when I look at my art I sometimes feel like it lacks some expressiveness I see in other artworks. And now that you mention it - the faces often just don’t look that interesting expression wise, they also lack depth like you mentioned, especially for the eyes at times which could contribute to that.. That may just be the aspect that could take my art to the next level if i study it more, so it honestly is very helpful for you to point this out, I appreciate it! And about the blurring thing - I think I added it intentionally at first but forgot to do it in the after version, its a difference definitely- Overall i wanted to try doing something more “different” with the before version in a way I guess, but since I’m not used to drawing in that way - twisting the body like this or using proportions similar to pan - I’m not sure if things only look weird to me as I mentioned in the video. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts, it means a lot to hear you’ve watched my other art style study videos as well! Have a nice day :)

Hi mayelenym !! I love your art, and have been watching a few of your art studies aswell as the genshin posing analysis, and I was hoping if you have any tips !! I'm currently struggling finding appealing poses for my own ocs(I'm heavily inspired by ensemble stars and twst, so when I make ocs for those fandoms, I like making them their own ssr card and such) but looking on pinterest and other mediums tend to demotivate me as I end up doomscrolling for references :'D(nothing really fits my ideas so much...) I was wondering if you have any tips of general anatomy/creating poses, same for introducing more dynamic/perspective poses or just where else I should look.
@Arek-668 күн бұрын
Ik you asked op, but i suggest gesture drawing (line of action is very useful for this), for cool poses there is pose maniacs. Aaron Min, in his video about splash art (pt. 1), describes very nicely how to come out with a dynamic pose, which basically is using twists of the body and foreshortening and then add limbs with either opposite lines of action or a continuation of the main line of action. I also suggest avoiding "the coffin", meaning that if you make a rectangle that touches every edge of the pose, it shouldn't look like a coffin, there should be areas where there is blank space. Hope this helps!!

Hey, and thank you! I’m so happy to hear you also love Enstars and Twisted Wonderland! They’re two of my favorite fandoms. Drawing OCs for them and creating card illustrations sounds like such a fun idea :) Maybe I’ll try that one day too Here are some thoughts and tips that might help: 1. choosing a pose based on the purpose If you’re first designing a character (like the in-game sprites), straightforward poses work well. A front-facing pose can make the design stand out without overcomplicating things, and you can show a bit about the character's personality in their posture and pose. For SSR (/4 or 5 star) card illustrations, you can experiment with dynamic perspectives, angles, and storytelling elements. These allow you to express the character’s personality and create visual interest. 2. using their personality Since you talked about drawing ocs, you likely have an idea of who they are, what their personality is like and so on - that can help with finding a pose as well since you can try to make that come across in their pose. (A more extroverted character may have their arms more streched out, and be in a more energetic pose compared to an introverted one for example.) 3. making pose thumbnails If looking at references feels overwhelming/you already have a general idea, try starting with small stick-figure like sketches. You can use simple lines and shapes to try many pose ideas. Once you settle on a direction, you can refine it and search for references that match specific parts of the pose. combining references References do help a lot with making sure proportions work. What helps me with using them is to combine references sometimes. Maybe I like the upper body pose from one reference, the hand pose from another and the leg pose from another one... by combining multiple references you can come up with other poses as well. 4. avoid doomscrolling Pinterest - just like most other social media platforms - is pretty good at giving you many recommendations and keeping you longer on their platform that way- sometimes these recommendations are very helpful. But to avoid spending too much time looking up references I often start with references i have saved to pinterest boards over time and limit myself to these. +Here are some other ideas for avoid spending too much time on looking up references: -Write down or sketch your idea first to clarify what you’re looking for -Set a timer (for example 5 minutes) for your search -Batch gather references: take 30 minutes on one day and save many references to one board (or you could look for boards from other people you like and use these instead). Then use only references from that board for - maybe the next 2 weeks or so? (it depends on how often you draw, how often you need pose references) -What has helped me a lot is to take pose reference videos of myself! That way you can determine/try out the pose, angle and so on yourself and you don't have to spend time looking up pose references I hope these suggestions help and I wish you the best with drawing (your ocs)! ♡

Yeah of course you can draw the characters in 👍🏻you can just look up references for them, it's nice to know more about the characters to draw them of course, but you can also just watch some videos or read through the genshin wiki to get to know them instead of having to play the game
