Very helpful video! Is it possible to keep the tints of a color?
@miketheprintman5 күн бұрын
You can specify the tint color in the profile, but there is no direct way to just copy the exact tint pattern since you’re switching from four colors to one, basically. The tint percentage is located on the profile set up area near the bottom of the settings.

This is so amazing, I cant say thank you enough, I'm not very tech savvy so forgive me for this next question and also I'm not trying to take up more of your time, could you point me in the direction of what to look up if i wanted to print these pdfs 2 on one page. Im thinking about place cards which would use variable data but multiples would be printed on one sheet of paper. Thank you again for the video and your time!
@miketheprintman11 күн бұрын
I appreciate your comment. Thank you for watching the video. Are you planning on printing this yourself, or sending it to a print shop? If you're sending it out, that's easy, you can just export the design as a PDF and email it. If you're planning on doing it yourself, I would still export your design as a PDF. You can either then import the print ready PDFs back into Illustrator and set them two-up on a 8.5" x 11" size pasteboard, add crop marks and then print. I normally do something like that via InDesign because it's a little easier to work with, but I'm not sure if you have InDesign or not. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'm happy to help.

Hello, does it still work? I cant fint the "set overprint and knockout" option in preflight. I checked all the custom fixum options. My preflight edit profile look differend, that might be because of Windows or newer version.

@miketheprintman12 күн бұрын
Hmmm...that's the latest release. I have it as well. I go to Tools -> Print Production -> Preflight. Then in the Preflight window click the wrench icon first. That gets you to the fixups. Then in the upper right hand corner click on "Options" and select "Create Fixup" from the drop down. In the new window that pops up there is a search bar in the upper right. Type in Overprint and one of the two options that should be below is "Set Overprint and Knockout". From there follow the steps in the video and your preflight will be set. Let me know if that doesn't work for you.

Is there a way to automate this?
@miketheprintman15 күн бұрын
You could set up a data merge for these items. Do text for all the text fields and then link the graphic in the proof box. The question is why would you want to? Most of the time a proof is a one off, so by the time you set all your data, it would be just as fast to just type it in and replace the PDF. If you had a ton of proofs to send then it might be worth it. Obviously there are websites that have built in print on demand capabilities with automated proofing, but that's a whole different ball game than doing the proofs manually.

Why did you copy the .acb (Adobe Color Book) files instead of exporting the Pantone swatches as .ase (Adobe Swatch Exchange) files? When Adobe updates their apps again, will they possibly disable the older Pantone .acb files at some point in the future which would make them unusable? Would saving the Pantone swatches as .ase files be a better solution for future-proofing? Should we save both .acb and .ase files just in case? Good video.
@miketheprintman20 күн бұрын
I hope they don’t disable them, but there is always a possibility. If you can save both, do it. I don’t think I really even though about it, I’ve just been using the ACB files. No matter what, when 2026 versions of the software rolls out you’ll have to do this whole thing over again. Thanks for watching.

Really informative, would love to see a video on the opposite - Pantone colours to CMYK conversion. I had a PDF advert recently, where it contained two spot plates, one named as the official Pantone name, and another custom colour named after the brand. In the end as it was destined to a 45L offset, we used print production, convert colours - but would be interested to see your approach to this. There must be a more accurate way, we did also try ink manager but it didn't seem to work. Anyway, keep up the great videos.

It should not effect accuracy? it just lack the new colors that Pantone adds every year. right?
@miketheprintmanАй бұрын
If you absolutely need 100% accuracy, then the Pantone bridge is the way to go. However, these swatches are going to get you about 98% of the way there. I wouldn’t worry about them being very far off from the actual printed PANTONE books.
@denblaakopАй бұрын
@miketheprintman i don’t understand why? if they are preexisting colors from the former Adobe versions: Pantone does not change existing colors (that would render older designs absolute), they just add more every year.
@miketheprintmanАй бұрын
@@denblaakop I think the whole falling out between Adobe and PANTONE had to do with money (of course). If you have older colors, I don't see what the big difference is, like you said, nothing really much changes. PANTONE claims that their old swatches were out of date and that users needed updated versions. The ironic thing is that ink comes from a can and is set on press, so there is always going to be some issues with what you see on the screen not 100% matching the ink from the can anyway. I think it was all just a cash grab and to make our lives as designers harder.
@denblaakopАй бұрын
@ 1. Another company (some Medical giant) actually bought up Pantone, think that was what happened (don’t know so much about it. 2. Exactly, the inc is defined by the color name/code not what we see on the screen 3. It is of course possible that Pantone has gotten better at simulering the correct colors on the screen. But if these swatches was good enough for me to design packaging with them in 2020, they still are… anyways, I bought them, because I hate Pantone Connect 😅
@denblaakopАй бұрын
Btw. They do add new colors, so it gives more options to use the Pantone connect, but there is plenty in your collection for my needs.
