Saw this song on 1977 Tony award recording. Thought it was Christopher Lloyd so had to Google and check out KZbin. Can’t believe Meryl Streep and Grayson Hall were also in this production. Great song!

My parents were NYC theater junkies when I was a kid. Any time there was a revival of anything by Kurt Weill they would always go. As a kid I didn't understand. Now I'm just mad because they never took me.

this song was co-produced by arto lindsay and susan rogers, like byrne's self-titled album. they weren't involved with eyeball along with the more stripped back sound, all signs point to this being a self-titled outtake.
@giovata
@giovata Жыл бұрын
it was also performed live on the self-titled tour - it's undoubtedly an outtake from then, but it was included as a bonus track on some special editions of Look into the Eyeball (just explaining why some people consider it a LITE outtake in case you weren't familiar)

I saw this at BAM, and I believe it was Meryl Streep, though I could be wrong-- it was about 45 years ago. Lloyd had broken his foot or something, and came on stage with the crutches, as you can see here. As he came in, he turned toward the audience and gave us a sly smile. At first, we didn't know it the crutches were part of the character's outfit. Then we got it-- he was hurt, but the show . . . etc.. It seems a lifetime away. Someone else's lifetime-- not mine.

I saw this on Broadway and, yes, the crutches were authentic as he had hurt his leg. Merryl was awesome in the play and went on to Hollywood greatness thereafter.

[26 January 2021] This is so adorable. I mean it. Chris, Tina, and (even!) David, trying their hand at the sort of trashy bubblegum song they used to play at drunken frat-parties. And David Byrne sounds so much like Brian Eno (especially on the first lines of the song) it's rather uncanny.
