This series was supposed to go at least four seasons. If you’re a fan of it, I highly recommend the book it’s based on by Jeff Pearlman. So many insane stories but my favorite by far is the one in the epilogue. It’s about the 12th man on the bench and how the team absolutely tormented him the entire year. The veterans on the team were just relentless to the guy, he almost considered retiring as a rookie. But once the team won their championship of the 80s, they celebrated with him like he was family. He was invited to dinner at Magic’s house, went on vacation with everybody. The lesson? You’re not truly a Laker until you win a championship. That was the culture Pat Riley created. So good.

"I don't know where you got the idea you're a star, but you're not." Looked a grown man in the eye and told him that. The best coaches aren't afraid to call out their players when they start slipping. Tom Landry, Bill Parcells, Jimmy Johnson, Pat Riley, Phil Jackson...these men and others knew how to get the best out of their players and that's why they're all in the Hall of Fame.

Adrien Brody nailed Riles. All the actors in this series were fantastic. Can't we get another season, HBO? PLEASE?

Had so much material for a good 5 season saga. Most of all the actors brought it from the real players! Bird!! Cap! Etc.. Season 2 felt rushed.

never seen this, but now I wanna. Really enjoyed how they steered away from the cliche that gets overdone in so many team movies, where "omg coach said something profound and hard...now we have to do a montage of us being pissy at him, while we slowly get better, and then suddenly we're all a well oiled machine." Nah here they realized immediately "ya know what...not sure if he's right or not...but he's the coach for a reason, so let's give it a go with good attitude." and then we got the last 30 seconds of the clip from 2:18.

This show was perfect in every way. It had superb writing, top tier acting, every piece of scenery, music, choreography of the games, clothing, all was done perfectly. But the show did not make as much money as HBO wanted it to make so they will never continue it. Because that is the world we live in, a world where artistic merit has no consequence against cold hard cash.

Can you imagine being a professional athlete giving it your absolute all every time youre out there, and you get to the championship 9 times out of the 14 seasons you're playing in, and you lose not only 8 of them, but 6 STRAIGHT YEARS to the same goddamn team???? Just once is heartbreaking to anyone, but 6? 6 consecutive fucking times. Not only that. But you eventually DO win a championship, and its against a completely different team. So you can't avenge your loss to the team that beat your ass all those times. Damn Jerry. I can't imagine the torture. God bless you and God rest your resilient soul.
