Why are there 2 stink pipes 1 ft apart ? They should have been combined by the pumber.

What stops the water coming in at the rib? Yea caulk! Why even put a pipe flashing on? Silly. Water gets in the overlap and will feed under the flashing, only caulk stops it.

I can really tell you know what you’re doing! Big rain and wind storm up here in Maine right now..was watching a show with my girl and heard a dripping behind me..sure enough..leak coming from the chimney near the ceiling. I went up into the attic and can see where it’s leaking and I assume it has to do with what you replaced here. I took a lot of notes from your video and will be fixing the leak! Thanks for taking the time to explain everything.

Great video, this man does some pretty work and obviously knows what he is doing. If it is feasible Consider the location of the vent pipes to determine where you install the first panel, and this problem can easily be avoided. Be sure to add 1/8 or 1/4 inch for each panel to adjust for the inevitable gain during installation. For new construction, have the plumbers move the pipe so it comes up through the center of the panel.

so one inch spacing for wind abatement on the top piece but only a few screws at the intermediate connection of the under z parts. How does that work for Florida Wind mitigation inspections. I need to do four of them on my roof from 2002 to meet the new upgraded fla standards.

Thanks for the information... Too bad you are not in the South Dallas area... I have two pipes that have the boots up over the seams. Now I know what should be done once I find a repetable roofer in the Waxahachie Texas area.. Again thanks. And thanks to the other comments that show the success of them mirroring your instructions.

Love watching guys put it on wrong in all these videos. It must wrap onto fascia. Imagine a gutter on fascia that freezes. Where is the water behind the ice going to travel???? Right up under the drip into the BARE wood and leak. It instructs you in the directions on the package. 4" minimum ONTO fascia. Then install drip. Feel free to put a strip on top of dripedge sealing everything

His first layer of ice and water is unnecessary. Ice and water is only needed overlapping the boot flange above. The big mistake he's making is not adhering the ice and water to the sheathing and then installing the underlayment over the ice and water. He doesn't understand basic roofing concepts.

Thank you so much for this video. I have a mountain cabin and the gaskets got torn to shreds by 3-5' of snow for the last 3 winters and bent the ABS vent pipes. It took me all day to replace the vent pipes and gaskets, and the one on the rib I used this exact same technique and it worked perfectly. Such clear instruction I really appreciate it, probably saved me >$1000.

Why isn’t your ice and water on top of the drip edge?
@j.kelley1685
@j.kelley1685 Ай бұрын
Ice and water shield has to be adhered to the wood. You can add extra ice and water over the drip edge bonding it to the first layer if you like. I don't understand why people only adhere it over the drip edge that makes no sense. The ice and water shield needs to be on the wood because of its adhesive membrane and the nails that go through the drip edge need to go through that adhesive med brain into the wood so that the membrane forms around the nail sealing it in. If you only put it on the drip edge then all of your nailing that goes through the drip edge is puncturing your roof sheathing and doing absolutely nothing. Always remember that ice and water shield needs to have contact with all of the wood first. Then you can cut strips after your drip edges installed over the ice and water to put another seal.

@ I greatly appreciate the feedback! Thank you! I have 6 townhouses that got hail damage and now have a new roof. I’ve installed shingles before as a summer job in college. Learned a lot and was able to identify some major issues with the way the contractors installed the new roof. Things like putting nails through the face of the drip edge, spray painting the old galv vents instead of installing the new black ones that were included in the insurance claim, finding major shingle damage to the new roof as it was installed, incorrect installation of parts of the roof cap, and incorrect starter shingle installation just to name a few. This contractor insisted they were GAF certified and legal, but when they showed up with no safety equipment, and couldn’t speak English, I started to get seriously suspicious.

Why not do ice and water on bottom and have the synthetic paper run over the drip edge. Seems like the cheapest way to get the over and under.

so after the ice shield you start the under layment at the top ?? or does it matter ? I thought it starts from bottom up like the shingles
@CenvarRoofingandSolar
@CenvarRoofingandSolar 4 ай бұрын
For this model, it would seem that the under layment starts at the top, but you're correct. It starts from the bottom up. If we had a larger model we'd be adding another layer on top of that and then another on top of that.

If we had to take all considerations out... we'd say around $1,200 per. Pricing factors to consider would be pitch, how many stories up is the roof.. etc.
