This has to be the most stupid install i have ever seen the boot's are made to seal over the ridge of the metal roof, they just need to be installed correctly.

Thanks for the information... Too bad you are not in the South Dallas area... I have two pipes that have the boots up over the seams. Now I know what should be done once I find a repetable roofer in the Waxahachie Texas area.. Again thanks. And thanks to the other comments that show the success of them mirroring your instructions.

Love watching guys put it on wrong in all these videos. It must wrap onto fascia. Imagine a gutter on fascia that freezes. Where is the water behind the ice going to travel???? Right up under the drip into the BARE wood and leak. It instructs you in the directions on the package. 4" minimum ONTO fascia. Then install drip. Feel free to put a strip on top of dripedge sealing everything

The ice and water debate over under or both is just as bad as putting a roll of toilet paper on the toilet paper dispenser over or under

His first layer of ice and water is unnecessary. Ice and water is only needed overlapping the boot flange above. The big mistake he's making is not adhering the ice and water to the sheathing and then installing the underlayment over the ice and water. He doesn't understand basic roofing concepts.

Thank you so much for this video. I have a mountain cabin and the gaskets got torn to shreds by 3-5' of snow for the last 3 winters and bent the ABS vent pipes. It took me all day to replace the vent pipes and gaskets, and the one on the rib I used this exact same technique and it worked perfectly. Such clear instruction I really appreciate it, probably saved me >$1000.

Why not do ice and water on bottom and have the synthetic paper run over the drip edge. Seems like the cheapest way to get the over and under.

One of the best productions. Good camera showing close details, good explanation and speaks very well without stumbling. Good sound quality. Joy to watch. So many just don't get how bad their production is.....thank you . Shout out to Velux. Also not a sponsor, but it seems like they supply great product and support.

so after the ice shield you start the under layment at the top ?? or does it matter ? I thought it starts from bottom up like the shingles
@CenvarRoofingandSolar3 ай бұрын
For this model, it would seem that the under layment starts at the top, but you're correct. It starts from the bottom up. If we had a larger model we'd be adding another layer on top of that and then another on top of that.

How much do people usually charge to change these out?
@CenvarRoofingandSolar3 ай бұрын
If we had to take all considerations out... we'd say around $1,200 per. Pricing factors to consider would be pitch, how many stories up is the roof.. etc.

@mrflorida553 ай бұрын
I have not seen this technique before on you tube. If this is the "correct way" to install the vent, why does MFG shows it installed on a rib? (they say form to rib) I had one leaking and the previous install just used too few screws. They also used long ones which was also excessive.

Great video! Very detailed. What is the difference between Velux Curb and Velux Deck mounted skylights?
@CenvarRoofingandSolar3 ай бұрын
Curb mounted skylights require a raised curb for installation, suitable for flat or low-slope roofs, and are easier to replace. Deck mounted skylights are installed directly onto the roof deck with integrated flashing, suitable for steeper roofs, and provide a more seamless appearance.

Google Maps. Everyone's roof is photographed and online now.
@CenvarRoofingandSolar4 ай бұрын
Putting tape on the roof ensures precision (depends on how experienced the sales rep is) in measurements, avoids potential discrepancies in costs, and allows for a thorough assessment of the roof's condition, including the state of the underlying wood. We like this approach vs the Google Maps Image.

That doesn't appear to be Ice & Water Shield, but rather peel and stick base for flat roofs. Ice and Water Shield does not have any granules on its top surface.
@CenvarRoofingandSolar3 ай бұрын
General I&W does not. You're correct. However, there are specific variations that do have a granular surface to withstand higher temperatures and provide a better grip.

Yeah, they’ll survive, but they will be damaged….solar panels lose an average of 2% efficiency a year due to solar flare activity that damages the panels which is essentially an EMP or many.
