I have every tone generation type of Wurlitzer organ Wurlitzer made 1946-1979, EXCEPT the '58-'65 all-vacuum tube variety. Wurlitzer invented Sustain. The first being the 1953ish Wurlitzer 4600 console/ 4410 spinet models Electrostatic Continuous Free Reed organs. The reeds are NOT used acoustically, but purely for their harmonics, which are then filtered for Flute (very pure flute tone, unlike the clarinet tone of a Hammond), and STRING voices. You can hear this great sound by listening to these Ken Griffin records: 67 Melody Lane album ( which he did a TV show with guests of the same title- 67 Melody Lane '). ' Skating Time ' album, and 'Cruising Down The River ' album. This album has great recording echo which his good buddy Les Paul experimented with. It sounds great and fortunately big Griffin fan Erik Larson did major research and wrote a great article laying it out. Simply search: Ken Griffin's Special Effects - Theatre Organ You also get to see Hammond's first spring reverb design, known as Fluid Column Spring Reverb which were used in several tone cabinet models. I have two- the ER20 decorative 2-door 'furniture' looking tone cabinet, and the more well known, HR40. If you ever come by an HR40 grab it. Don't hull it on its side, the fluid column reverb has oil in the long metal spring cylinders, and it will spill right out!. Interesting that Hammond quickly reinvented the spring reverb as we now know it. Which sounds much better. Although the first units could be tweaked, they generally sound very cavernous and lower frequency with long trails. Hammond sent out a memo with techs telling them to remove the fluid column units, wrap in newspaper and dispose of in the garbage. There are a little 3-4 part "transistor preamp" kit the tech would wire in place for the operation of the regular small tank reverb units that you now see in every old guitar amp, and new! Oh' here is the bulletin and preamp circuit-- Hammond Organ Service Bulletin TSB49, (it's on the Theatre Organ Home Page if you can't find it).

Hello and thank you. Shelly & I picked things that had a memory attached. After my dad retired from his career, he drove a school bus. Now it is late over here and I'm up, but I've had to take of something, and in the aftermath of that event, I'm catching up on some bus rides and train arrivals and departures. But it hit me, you called Elizabeth a piano. And she is an organ. Just being silly. I call her Elizabeth after my father's mother as she had a Wurlitzer piano. But this is a spinet style organ manufactured from 1959 to 1963 per Wikipedia. It has no transistors or microprocessor, it uses many vacuum tubes (valves). I hope you have a wonderful day filled with sunshine and skip in your step. Hope to see you in your next live event. See you in the funny papers, Michael

I used to repair Wurlitzer organs many years ago. The 4100 was just about the last tube organ that Wurlitzer made, and it was also the end of the higher quality line of Wurlitzers. The transistor, IC, and LSI models were progressively becoming crap. For every Yamaha organ I repaired, there were about 10 Wurlitzers that needed repair. They kept me busy.
@wurlitzer4100
@wurlitzer4100 4 ай бұрын
I really didn't know what I wanted in an organ when we got this one, a little over 2 years ago. I didn't want a squeaky transistor box for sure. It feels like there a few main disciplines in organ playing. Where the 4100 fits in, I'm not sure (jazz, theater, pipe, etc). For example, recently I played and uploaded "Country Roads" and in my opinion, if the performance was lacking, it wasn't because the organ ability or tonality. I recently wound up with a Hammond T582, I played "Country Roads" on it and I hated it. In a nutshell, I acquired the built in Leslie tremolo. Hammond isn't for me. The 4100 has nearly a "Honky Tonk" appeal to her. I want to build a custom tone cabinet/Leslie to hook up to our 4100, but I'm not in any hurry. Take care and thank you for the message. Michael
