What song is that from that ends the video?! I know it and can’t remember what song it’s from!

One of my favorite bands and music of all time. Along with Love-Cars and Halloween, Alaska. All of which share members. Ryan is the most underrated frontman, writer and singer in rock music. I’d do anything to go back to the days of seeing the original lineup at the Uptown Bar or 400 Bar. Those were the days. Also, Separation is a killer album and Ryan has the ability to write lyrics that would seem cheesy for anyone else, but there’s an irony in his words that he uses perfectly. If that makes sense. I hope he continues to create music.

I discovered the band a while and like I cried while listening to some songs, they resonated so much with me. It’s still one of my top listening on streaming plateforms. I was so hooked I even subscribed to their Facebook page out of the blue and literally a day later, Ryan was publishing that post about recording solo a new album haha what a timing it was ! Thanks for the video !! 🥰

Thank you for this. I found 12Rods in high school, over 20 years ago, and sadly forgot about them after moving away from home and moving on in my life. I recently (last month) had a resurgence of interest when a friend from that time brought them up out of the blue and it was a "core memory unlocked" moment. I'd only ever heard Split Personalities and Separation Anxieties, and when I looked them up on Spotify I discovered Gay? for the first time. Now I have a mission to track down Bliss and, most especially, Lost Time. I wouldn't have known about either without this video, so again, thank you. I'm excited.

Am I the only person who thought Marionette was a killer track? Whenever people defend Separation Anxieties... and I agree with you, its an album that deserves to be defended... no one even mentions that track as one of the album's up-sides.

your not funny The phrase "I love lean" stands as a testament to the bizarre intersections of internet culture, drug references, and the sometimes perplexing nature of what passes for humor. To appreciate just how unfunny this phrase is, one must delve into its origins and the cultural wasteland from which it springs. "I love lean" emerged as a meme-a term that itself is synonymous with overused, superficial, and often cringeworthy attempts at humor. The phrase, associated with the infamous “lean” or “sizzurp” concoction-a mixture of prescription cough syrup containing codeine with soda-has become a tired punchline in various internet forums, where the context is almost always as vacuous as the joke itself. The origins of “I love lean” are steeped in the trivialities of meme culture, a realm where creativity goes to die and where humor often amounts to nothing more than regurgitating the same stale jokes. It’s a phrase that originated from the darker side of hip-hop culture, a genre that romanticizes drug use with a sense of detachment that most find more disturbing than entertaining. The phrase’s attempt at humor is fundamentally flawed, relying on a superficial shock value that only succeeds in appealing to the lowest common denominator. The supposed "funny" part of the phrase comes from its absurdity and irrelevance, yet this absurdity often fails to resonate beyond a fleeting chuckle, revealing a lack of depth in its humor. In meme culture, “I love lean” is a perfect example of the kind of humor that thrives on repetition and mediocrity. It’s a catchphrase that has been flogged to death by users who seem to believe that slapping it onto an image or video will somehow generate genuine amusement. The fact that the phrase has been used ad nauseam only highlights its lack of originality and the absence of genuine comedic value. The repetitiveness of the phrase, coupled with its association with a substance notorious for its harmful effects, results in a joke that feels more like a grotesque attempt at provocation rather than actual humor. Moreover, the association with drug culture further sullies the phrase’s comedic potential. "Lean," as a substance, is linked to a range of serious health issues and criminal behaviors. The casual, almost celebratory use of "I love lean" in memes can be seen as not only tone-deaf but also deeply insensitive. It trivializes the real consequences of drug abuse, reducing serious issues to a mere punchline in a cheap joke. This callousness is symptomatic of a broader trend where shock value is mistaken for humor, and where the exploitation of sensitive subjects is seen as an acceptable form of comedy. Theories of humor, such as incongruity, superiority, and relief, offer little solace for “I love lean.” The incongruity theory, which suggests that humor arises from the clash between expectations and reality, falls short here because the joke’s punchline is as predictable as it is uninspired. There’s no clever twist or unexpected outcome-just a disjointed phrase that lacks the complexity required to provoke genuine laughter. The superiority theory, which is predicated on deriving amusement from feeling superior to others, also fails. There’s nothing particularly superior about the humor derived from “I love lean”; it’s merely a reflection of a shallow, uninspired sense of amusement. Even the relief theory, which posits that humor serves as a release of psychological tension, doesn’t apply. The phrase doesn’t provide relief or a clever escape from stress; instead, it reinforces a sense of superficiality and vacuousness. It’s a crutch for those who seek to mask their lack of creativity with a cheap, readily available joke. The humor in “I love lean” doesn’t offer any meaningful respite or genuine engagement-it’s a fleeting, hollow attempt at humor that quickly fades into the background noise of internet culture. In summary, the phrase “I love lean” epitomizes the essence of unfunny internet humor. It’s a bland, repetitive catchphrase that relies on shock value and superficial irony, failing to offer any real substance or originality. Its association with drug culture only serves to highlight its insensitivity and the broader trend of using controversial topics as a cheap laugh. As a piece of humor, it lacks depth, creativity, and, ultimately, any real comedic value. In the grand scheme of internet memes and jokes, “I love lean” stands as a stark reminder of the shallow, uninspired nature of much of online humor.

cool video, a few thoughts: On Separation anxieties, there was hope that Glad that it's over was the debut single, but it being over 8 minutes led to it not being selected. I wish you would have talked more about Dave Jake and Bill. They are powerhouses in their own right. Other projects of theirs are Halloween Alaska, The Bad Plus, Happy Apple etc. And I wish you had played a snippet from Summertime Vertigo, my absolute favorite song of thiers. It's so haunting and melodic! I'll send this to Bill.

@@sinnermann2046 Thank you! One thing I definitely wish I had talked about was all of the awesome bass lines on pretty much all 12 Rods songs. Not even a passing mention of that and Dave's drumming on Lost Time is a grave error on my part. I'll be sure to listen to their other projects, as I've checked out (and included footage of) a Japanese band Quruli that Chris drummed for. Twenty Four Hours Ago is my also my favorite 12 Rods song ✌️
