That was excellent. While cholesterol deniers are getting millions of views while not being involved in this research, the people who have dedicated their careers to this research are getting hundreds of views. 😢

Look at the published study: “Lack of an association or an inverse association between low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol and mortality in the elderly: a systematic review,” published June 12 2016 in BMJ Open. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27292972/ It found that among 68,000 patients studied, there was an inverse association between all-cause mortality and LDL-C in 92% of them, and no association in the other 8%. It concluded: “High LDL-C is inversely associated with mortality in most people over 60 years. This finding is inconsistent with the cholesterol hypothesis (ie, that cholesterol, particularly LDL-C, is inherently atherogenic). Since elderly people with high LDL-C live as long or longer than those with low LDL-C, our analysis provides reason to question the validity of the cholesterol hypothesis. Moreover, our study provides the rationale for a re-evaluation of guidelines recommending pharmacological reduction of LDL-C in the elderly as a component of cardiovascular disease prevention strategies.” Professor Nordestgaard, how do you reconcile that study with your findings? You refer to CVD causes of death in the over-age-70 group, but this BMJ study found that all-cause mortality was lower with higher LDL-C. Could this be explained by an age-related change in LDL particle size distribution? That is, maybe with age the LDL particles tend to be the large boyant type rather than small dense LDL particles which are currently thought to be the atherogenic ones. Maybe higher LDL-C in the elderly is protective against inflammation of the atheromas or against cancer and other causes of death.

Thank you sooo much for sharing this...I have been a caregiver for my grandmother for five years who currently is in the severe stages of dementia. She’s been diagnosed with it for eight years. I have learned so much along this journey with her and have decided to start sharing my knowledge on KZbin so happy to see this kind of information out there✨
