Jookie, when installing a Pi2b - which pins on the pi2 line up to the board? same fully to the LH side? I ask because in the video you have the red on the cable to the right.. which would be the opposite of the pin1 on the PI1 and pi2
@atarijookie Жыл бұрын
First 26 GPIO pins on RPi 1 and RPi 2 are the same (pins 1-26), so if you are using cable with 26 pins, put it close to the SD slot of RPi. See this for where the pin 1 is: www.raspberrypi-spy.co.uk/2012/06/simple-guide-to-the-rpi-gpio-header-and-pins/

I like the features, but I don't want to change the Floppy with the CosmoxEX. Is there a n external Version for the ASCI Drive available? I only need the Harddrive and the Network.
@atarijookie9 жыл бұрын
drzeissler You don't have to use it as internal and replace the original floppy. Just connect it from outside with ACSI cable only, and you will get the hard drive and other features available through ACSI.

Miro Nohaj thx, I will order it.

drzeissler Your status: We're out of stock, you can't buy the device now. The device will be available again in ~2 months (october 2015).

Can you use this one without removing the internal floppy drive of an 520STFM (using the external floppy port)? And of course, would this even work with 512kB RAM, or would I need a 1+ MB machine?
@atarijookie9 жыл бұрын
fisk0 You can use it without removing the internal floppy (it can be connected as external), but as in that configuration the internal drive is A: and the external is B:, some games might have issues with that - they assume to be working from drive A: Also it can work with 512 kB of RAM, but that depends on the usage: - if you use only floppy emulation and / or USB mouse / joystick / keyboard, than no RAM will be used and all apps / games which could run with 512 kB of RAM would run the same - if you use my driver for network and USB drives, then it takes ~75 kB of RAM, so anything which would run with ~400 kB of free RAM, will work, but other games / apps will fail - if you use some other hard disk driver, then that one takes some RAM, and it's similar to the previous one - something will work, something will fail

Miro Nohaj Thanks! I had primarily planned to use it as a floppy emulator, and copy stuff to physical floppies in the A drive if needed (since I have a bunch of spare floppy disks around). Had originally planned to copy stuff directly from my PC using an USB floppy drive, but turns out the drive I have doesn't support 720kB floppies.

Hello Miro, does it matter in witch positition you place power cord on the injector?
@ScreaminJoeBlade9 жыл бұрын
I know there is probably an simple answer but why wouldn't I insert the SD card into the Pi BEFORE installing it into the CosmosEx?
@atarijookie9 жыл бұрын
...because with the SD card in Raspberry Pi it wouldn't fit in the box with already installed PCB of CosmosEx - there's just too little space... But if you manage it, I would like to see a video out of that...

Will the linux kernel boot faster then atari will try to use CosmosEx?
@atarijookie10 жыл бұрын
This depends... The newer TOS (e.g. 2.06) has a memory test and delay after that test for hard drive to get ready - 1MB RAM test + this full delay is 80 seconds, just this test of 1 MB takes 10 seconds, so with a little more waiting and then pressing a key you definitely will boot the device before ST wants to read from it. But... The older TOS (e.g. 1.04) doesn't do this memory test or spin up delay, it will try to use the device at like 3 seconds after power on, so you will need one ST reset to get it booting. But that's not too bad as you need to wait only once after you power on the CosmosEx device, then you can restart your ST or even power it off and on and you don't have to wait (that is when CosmosEx is not on the same power supply as your ST - then turning your ST off would turn CosmosEx off, too, but the restarts will be fine anyway).
@sqward10 жыл бұрын
Miro Nohaj I see. Are you running any typical linux services or it's just kernel booting into your firmware?
@atarijookie10 жыл бұрын
Most of the services are off, but maybe something could be turned off - someone with more experience in this optimization could take a look at it :)

I've made a few videos today about my CosmosEx device... So here you can see the device power on and booting, it takes around 13 seconds to get it booted: CosmosEx - power on and ST boot Here is a video of the first device start and configuration: CosmosEx - first boot and device setup ...and last one is about downloading floppy images and using them with the device: CosmosEx - floppy images download and usage
