That's a fast draw even for an actor. Is bumping your holster first a technique or just the actor.

Met Jim Arness briefly when he was shooting McClain's Law in north Long Beach, CA. Just said hi to him when he was entering his trailer. Funny thing is there was brand new paint on the building next door to it that said BANK OF SAN PEDRO. Coulda got an autograph but didn't want to bother him. He was a great one, though - even came recommended by John Wayne himself in that first episode of Gunsmoke.

I guess when you get shot 144 times on the show, lighting up a cigarette doesn't seem so dangerous. Pretty sure he didn't die of a gunshot wound though... .

I guess that answers the reasons behind why Milburn Stone took an extended leave of absence from Gunsmoke to have open heart surgery

I am in awe of how EASILY Ken Curtis could slip in & out of character w/the markedly different voices of "Festus" & himself!! Also, I don't think I ever noticed on Gunsmoke how much taller than Doc, Festus was!!
