I managed to source some components to replace those that got damaged / failed, and after replacing these I am very happy that the pump is working again. Hopefully these last at least as long as the original components. The components were all of a type that protects the circuit, so the pump must have experienced some kind of an electrical surge to finally make it fail, but there are significant signs of the one component running very hot for a long period of time.

Do you have a follow up? Thinking of buying this tomorrow.

I have the same pump and it lasted roughly 4 years before the pump main shaft seal failed and by the time I noticed this the chassis corroded quite a bit. Managed to replace the seal, and forward another three years the control circuit board failed as one component blew up and damaged a adjacent part as well. No storm or power surges at the time that I am aware of - it was just Designed-to-Fail so they can charge you just under $1,000 for a new control PCB. I ordered in some components and will try and repair the control board. If I am not successful, I will bin the pump and replace with a single speed pump which I am told is a direct replacement in terms of plumbing. All the talk of saving energy with a variable speed motor goes out the window, and any possible savings in energy costs gets wasted multiple times over once the pump fails, which it is designed to do :(

What’s the result? I had the old smith and noble 10lt. Loved it. It was button press with the same sound. Looking at buying this one. Is there a follow up video?

I bought my machine six years ago and never realised there was a descale or clean cycle before. I gave it two cycles using citric acid descaling tablets on the grounds that if I didn't get all of the descaler out it would make my next cup of coffee taste faintly of lemons rather than a fish&chip supper Thanks for the video, coffee tastes so much better now.

This has just happened to me also, though the Viron P320 Evo pump is 11 yrs old. A $5 capacitor failed and has fried the circuit board. They (Astral) want $850 for the new replacement part. A new P320 XT pump is $1850. Like you they won't sell me just the failed circuit board. Shame you didn't threaten legal action. Australian consumer guarantee laws trump manufacturers warranty. I had problems with the descaling light staying on after the descaling cycle. Here are two tips: Firstly whatever descaling solution you use, fill it up to 600mls as per the owners book. Turn on machine and fit descaling pipe to milk outlet. (Pipe stored in fold down flap in front of milk container stand) Once the descaling cycle finishes which takes a long time as the machine starts and stops throughout the cycle so just let it do its thing. Secondly once it finishes descaling fill water tank to max and during the flush cycle add 300mls more water. The machine measures how much water passes through and obviously not calibrated for just the 1 litre tank capacity. This should reset the descale light once it finishes. Others have mentioned the light did not go off after the full cycle using the instructions above so use the instructions for the water hardness settings and set it to lowest setting then you can reset it later. I have not experienced this problem so can't guarantee it???

you should not use vinegar in modern coffee machines, use citric acid instead. It is cheap and works just as well. The plastics in modern coffee machines are only moderately compatible with acetic acid, whereas citric acid is usually no problem. In fact many commercial descaling tablets or fluids contain nothing more then citric acid.
