This is what hooked ny father on Basie in the early '40's.His absolute worship evolved into imitating his idol Earle Warren.Later in the '40"s he auditioned and replaced his hero on the lead alto sax chair over great lead cats all over the country,,from Omaha"s Orpheum stage.Hear pops with Basie on Queer street, Rambi, Rushings Hey Pretty Baby, and many more...

It was recorded a long time ago from a radio broadcast on a cassette (tape) and converted to mp3 some years ago. Never released on LP or CD. I can get you a copy of the MP3 if you let me know your email through a private message.

A fabulous sound! And of course performed great! I think an OL four star would also go great with my Buescher Super 400. What do you mean? Do you have experience with this combination? Best regards from Germany.
@mrpeebee1
@mrpeebee1 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Udo, much appreciated. OL Four**** mouthpieces should perform well on a Buescher Super 400, which are great horns. A risk could be that original Four**** often has a small tip opening and sound a bit mellow (mine is refaced to an 8* tip, but original they don't go over 5 or 5* max). My pro friend Rinus Groeneveld plays the same horn as you with a Ponzol 120 Super mouthpiece, which gives more power and a brighter sound to the horn. But we are all different and the only one who can answer what will sound good for you on your horn is you. Experimenting will give you answers, but can be an expansive process! Good luck with the search.

Ruud, you and Peter did very well as always and the young lady altoist played with great spirit. The tutti ensemble before that shout chorus was really beautiful, a very soulful statement. And I must give a shout to the conductor/director for holding it all together, great job! This is what music should be about, everybody contributing their thing and having some fun doing it. And when was the last time anybody saw 3 baritone saxophones on the same bandstand?

Thanks Julian. That was indeed a big party with all the horns. Three baritones is unique, as well as all the trombone players we had active on the stage! 😀

Inoubliable.
